I just got a similar call. They said somebody accused me of taking out a loan and when they tried to extract it from my bank the funds were not there and so the people were accusing me of theft. Then when I asked who this was accusing me, he said it was a large company with subsidiaries so I might not recognize the name of the company. I replied that I couldn't answer the charges if I didn't know in what name I supposedly took this loan from. I asked for a date for this supposed infraction and he couldn't tell me. He finally came up with some date. He said I could do 3 things. 1.Turn myself into the local authorities. 2.fight the charges and if I lose I could have to pay up to $10,000 3. or three settle and just pay the supposed $300 bill. I have taken out one of those loans in the past and that's probably how he got my name. Scary thing is he had my social security# and the name of my bank. I was suspicious when he just said State Bureau of investigations and not which state.

This number 2105102871 called me 5 times in an hour and when i finally picked up it was a man with a thick indian accent, saying he was sergeant something or other and then asked if i had a lawyer present. I asked what it was regarding and he said "internet fraud" I asked if that meant someone used my social security or if i was being charged with somthing, he said the latter. he said he needed to verify details to send legal paperwork. as I was talking to him i googled the number on my phone and came across a few sites with a scam from this number. I couldn't get any information from this man and seeing how the office is in san antonio and I live on the other side of the country, i'm inclined to believe this is some kind of scam.

I keep getting calls from this number.  They tell me that I took out a loan and that when a payment was to be taken from my account that it bounced.  I did take out a payday advance loan, but I made all the payments.

They insist that there are 3 ways I could take care it.  The easiest way is to agree to pay, but they want me to go to Walmart and get a Prepaid Greendot Money Pak and load it with money and then call them back and make the payment.  Really, I am supposed to pay a debt that you won't tell me anything about and you want me to use a prepaid card, today?  I don't think so.  They also asked me if I had ever been "picked up" for credit fraud or criminal charges, or if I had filed bankruptcy in the last 5 years to see if I qualify for a payment plan.  They refuse to take less than $100 a month.

They won't give me any information about when this happened or the original amount of the payment that supposedly bounced or the date that it happened.  This definitely sounds like a fraud to me.  Oh, and by the way, when I finally returned the call, they want payment today.  They say they will be calling me back later tonight.

They threatened me with arrest, with going to court that could end up costing me $9000 or more.

I am 99% certain that I do not have any outstanding debt here.  the phone number calling is 210-510-2871.

Before I called them back, they would call most of the time 5 times in a row when I didn't answer.  sometimes more.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>
