Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Actually pressed 1 when the recording called me.  I was transferred to an "investigator" who sounded very professional, stating I was in pre-trail investigations and a payday loan company was about to filed FELONY charges against me for a $250 loan.  When I asked what the process was, he said the next correspondence would be a court date.  He said he was alert the "client" that I called.  I told him "so basically your a debt collection agency with some pretty sophisticated scare tactics?" He replied "see you in court ma'am" and hung up. What a joke.

Got another call from this number leaving the same message; have a case pending with Pre Trial Intervention strongly suggesting that I or my attorney call them back.  Oh well, guess this is 'fun' for them.

These people call me 10+ times a day from spoofed numbers. I paid off everyone I owe so these are folks who have intercepted people's names, numbers, addresses, social security numbers AND bank account information. I changed my bank info as I believe it was these folks trying to take money out of my account under different names, etc., now they are calling. Here's the thing: there are several good payday loan services out there, but there are folks who latch onto these to take your information ---  and give you threatening calls to take your money.  They're from Florida or Texas or India or wherever -- but this needs to stop Whether you did or did not take out a payday loan, etc., is not the issue, the Internet is. These folks need to stop harassing people, and if they are reading this, yes, my attorney WILL be calling you and you'll be paying me and all the other people you're harassing. Find a new scam to scam, I will do what I can to help put these folks on notice and hopefully out of business.

Had several calls from these people, had my attorney call them, and they stated that they are not allowed to talk with attorneys.  even though they stated to have myself or my attorney call them.  My Attorney told me not to talk with these people.  I believe this is a SCAM

Let me guess! This is one of those predatory and cowardly threads. Intimidating, abusing, and  exploiting people under some debt collector fraud situation. Then filled with cowardly remarks that deceive and distract from the initial problem.

isn't it funny how all these jerks that want to collect money WILL NOT send you any paperwork, and besides, if you are trying to collect money you don't call a person saying we will visit you at your home.

Your welcome! And I wouldn't worry about them showing up.. they are cowards bottom line and the most you will get is hot air threats - their contribution to global warming.  They don't dare show up as they will be busted big time for extortion & fraud and well know it!  :)

Thanks so much for this information. I am going to contact these places, too. This is going on long enough. This is phone fraud on a high level and these people must be successfully preying upon unsuspecting people to give them money because they try to sound very scary and threatening.

First of all, there is no such thing as a debtor's prison or a debtor's court. Also, the police inform me that if police have a case or court order against you, they do not call you. This gives the person accused a chance to run away. If you are to be arrested or summoned to court, you will be served in person.

If these people show up on my doorstep, they better have proper identification and not be threatening to me. I have a right to defend myself on my own property, and I will.

I have gotten several calls & VM from this number stating that they are a Pre-Trial Intervention with a case pending in court, which I do not have any delinquent loans.  I pray FTC will speed up their investigation and stop these people. . .

These people are frauds they are harassing me on my phone I called them back they were not professional at all they couldn't even tell me what agencies they were calling from... Then I called back as someone else I gave them a false name and number and they said that I owe money for check fraud I just though this was funny

This is a joke right. U give ur name but when u call my phone u don't know mine and if u don't know my name stop calling this number until u know who u are looking for and it is not me i don't need a loan lawyer. Please if u people don't stop I will call the police and it will be u who needs a lawyer.
As far as a deadbeat I'm not one.my husband dies does that make me one.

I keep getting calls from these scammers and, no, I do not owe ANYONE money. I have NEVER received a payday loan although I looked into getting one a few years ago. I am positive this is how they get your information. When I have my lawyer call them, they hang up on him. I have given them my lawyer's fax number and they never send anything to him. I have never received anything in the mail from these people nor have I ever had a deposit from any payday loan company hit my bank account. Sometimes these people talk to the police when I turn them in and the police officer says they tell him they are debt collectors. Each time the police officer calls, they tell him I owe a different amount of money ranging from $300-$5,000. They say I changed my bank account on them which is laughable since I have been banking with the same bank for over 30 years now, the local police know me and they find this to be laughable at best but tell me to not answer these calls anymore. They also have asked me to report to them each time they call. These people call from a different state almost every week now. Do not give these people money. They are frauds and the police and FTC are trying to investigate them.
