This is not a real business It is however a real scam. The unfortunate thing is that the people that Work there are the true suckers they do all the heavy lifting and take the majority of the responsibility meaning legal troubles that are bound to follow this balding piece of s*** would exploit his own mother let alone some kid with ambitions. Beware of people like this and nearly every single person in the financial industry is either like this guy or aspires  to be him. I interviewed at this firm after myself having worked at pump and dump in the ninetys. At least in the 90s success if you can call it that was possible. This roach motel guarantees a mark on your license and possibly jail time nothing else and as for the investors as they say it's amazing a fool and his money got together in the first place. These people are predators but without the backbone to rob you to your face the the lowest kind of scum. So you wondered why I interviewed there, answer is I couldn't believe people were still falling for this degree of tomfoolery in this day and age. By the way the prostitutes serving as sales assistants we're not at the caliber befitting a schlock house clearly no experience stripping at scores are any higher level strip club. As I walked the trading floor which is as impressive as a huge cubic zirconia i felt bad for all these suckers and I don't mean the clients, i mean the Poor schmocks who would end their brokerage career unwittingly Through association with this third rate pump and dump that would make Tassin look professional

And now so are they, it was about time the tables turned on this scum boiler room firm. They lie from the beginning when you pick up the phone, "Yeah we spoke a while back you told me to call" What a crock. I am glad this firm is gone they give Investment firms a bad name, they give cold calling a bad name and no I am not a secretary I own my own business and would trust anyone who lies in the first 10 secs of a call with any amount of my portfolio

I interviewed here and blew the interview because I came off as being nervous. It is sad that there is no road to the middle class besides successful cold calling. It doesn't work at all. In order to make money these days you have to be a great trader. 7$ trades put too many people out of business who are brokers.

This story has now been on Bloomberg and the mainstream financial media, definitely gaining momentum.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-02-25/red- ... s-scrutiny.html

I cracked up when I read "David Pitts, a John Thomas spokesman at public relations firm Argot Partners LLC, said the brokerage isn?t a boiler room. It helps real companies raise money and provides honest advice to investors, he said."

That is akin to the cops pulling up to a trailer, a guy comes out unshaven and shirtless with his wife screaming back in the trailer, and he walks up to the cops and insists "I'm really not beating my wife!"

Looks like things are getting tough for our buddy Tommy...apparently he dropped his suit against the ex-brokers who were trying to tell the truth about him because he realized he didn't have the money for a prolonged legal battle.

The guy looks like Xerxes from the movie 300.  I wonder what Oliver Stone thinks ab the fact that he let Belesis con him into letting him consult and be in the movie.  The funniest thing is that the guys who work there worship the original Wall Street.  Belesis' dream was probably to be in the sequel, and boy did he get it.  Can't outrun your past and your real self though, buddy.

I "worked" at JTF for a couple of months studying for my series 7.. You are unpaid and sit in a classroom for months until you are ready to take your test.  Before you are ready to get sponsered to take the test, they make you sign a contract to stay with them for 6 months or they will file a lawsuit against you for about $7,000.. Everyone who ends up signing the contract leaves with in the first month, because they realize they will never make money in the business.. When they told me to sign the contract I walked out and never spoken to them since.  At least I can put "Wall St." on my resume

JTF is a boiler room, i work for a real firm that is known by everyone and i can honestly say ive been on JTF's trading floor and they are nothing but a scam with kids who are 18-25 with no real financial experience cold calling on "hot" stocks and the next great idea.  You guys who work there trying to defend JTF need to get your heads on straight, have fun working 12 hour days cold calling for your "senior" broker making 250$ a week and getting nowhere.  Oh any by the way dont forget you cant sit down and tell your british recruiter to get a life as well.

I have roll my eyes at all these jokers who keep referring to us as "just receptionists" and "just secrectaries".  For one thing neither of those titles truly apply to the Administrative Support Professional any longer. And there is nothing "just" about our positions. Sounds to me like a lot of the so called brokers on this forum are bitter and pissed off at us "the gatekeepers", because we keep you from getting to your target. And we ALWAYS will!
As for JTF, while it's true that most companies cold call, respectable companies and brokers don't have to lie to get clients. So don't call and act as though you are a friend of my boss'. He doesn't know you and doesn't want your call. And don't get loud with us either because we're laughing at you when we hang up on your sorry a**.  You are a sad sad little bunch.

I don't know why I'm even wasting my time of writing this, but I feel compelled to clear up a lot of the b***s*** and distorted realities while providing some actual insight to many previous topics.

As for cold calling, it is done by any and every brokerage firm.  Newer and smaller firms have more of an emphasis of conducting cold calls as they don't have the decades of networks and synergies of larger more prominent firms.  The process and procedure of a cold call is virtually the same, however dramatically less aggressive at firms people actually have heard of mainly due to the brand name recognition.  Additionally the criteria and qualifications of prospects are vastly different from a large BD to a small BD.

In regards to the prestige of having a Wall street location,  that's not the case and only small firms(outside of DB) need to rely on using the Wall street allure.  Fact is, the majority of any eminent financial institution, hedge fund or similar player in the money management industry are in midtown.

As for stockbrokers being the elite of the industry, anyone who's actually in the industry or has some knowledge will laugh at comments like that as they know they are the bottom of the barrel(even if you are a broker at MS or other top tier firms).

The brokers at firms like John Thomas can make a decent amount of money, 6 figures and sometimes 7 figures a year; most time they do so via aggressive trading and no regard for clients accounts thus jeopardizing their future in the industry because one mark on their license and they can kiss the shot of working at a top tier firm goodbye.  Often most brokers don't care(all about the gross) or realize this until its too late and they're already tainted from any real growth in the industry.

As for the returns one can look to get at a firm like JTF or a similar type of shop, they can vary depending on who your broker is.  Sometimes a broker can show you positive returns, over a long time horizon most will show you losses.  My advice to anyone thinking about investing with John Thomas or a similar small/boutique firm you've never heard of is to look up the firm and broker via Finra broker check.  You will be able to see any complaints, arbitration or disputes the firm or broker has in the past and give you a better sense of who you're dealing with.  Personally, I would never let a firm like this manage my assets as they have one and only one motive, and that is to do gross off your account.

If you are thinking of working at this firm it really depends on what your plans in life are and if you have ethics/morals.  If you don't care to have a career in the financial industry and just want to work very hard for a few years and make a substantial amount of money, then go for it.  If however, you plan to have a lengthy career in the financial industry it could be considered career suicide to work at a firm like JTF or similar.  There are other small/independent firms that don't have such sordid reputations and can offer fair compensation without the risk of getting marks on your license(thus really diminishing the chances of ever working at a top tier firm or having a respectful career).  Again it really all depends on how you look at things, many will say they make millions ate JTF and they very well could.  But no matter who you are and how much you make, at a certain point in your life you will realize the level you are on is the lowest of the low and offers a good laugh to those who have respectable careers and still make a lot of money in the financial industry.  Be realistic a firm like GS requires most to have an MBA and puts you through at least 8 different interviews before even offering a position; firms like JTF will often offer you a spot on their roster the same day you go to interview without even having any college degree(just as long as you haven't been arrested).

Hope that clarifies a few things and will help out those in the need of making a decision about doing business with John Thomas or a firm like them.

What makes you think the "person with the money" wants to even talk to these loser scumbags? You think the idiots at JTF are the only loser stockbrokers calling them? Don't you think they have better things to do than constantly get calls from fast-talking losers who waste not only their time but their money?

Oh and who do you think tells receptionists to screen these calls? The whole "technique" to get passed "us" is really a moot point considering the "real guy with the money" specifically told us to NOT let these calls through.

Maybe its the stockbroker who needs to find a new job. We don't need them anyway and they cause nothing but problems. I'm sure the coke dealers in the city enjoy their presence...the rest of us know what bottom feeders they are.

Stockbrokers are worthless pieces of s*** who should all be duct taped from head to toe and thrown into the Hudson. I swear if I could reach through the phone, I'd strangle these moronic SOB's who think an owner of a company wants to get 100 calls from you scumbags a day.

This firm constantly calls our business.   They are rude and obnoxious on cold sales calls.   Just give you a 1st name...no business, etc. and when you ask what company they are with, etc. they are not professional at all.   They ask for the person by 1st name only, like they know them or have dealt with them previously.  NOT!!  I've been hung up on various times when I tell them the owner is not in, or has no interest......especially with this firm.      They are just a real pain.       Even if the owner had any interest, and they were really reputable/professional, with their attitude.....NO WAY would you want to deal with them.   UGH!!!

I heard from a friend involved in a republican organization in NYC that Belesis was considering a run for mayor in the future.   Really?  Maybe not after the NY Post ran this a few months back.

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/business/shady_p ... dqvgSeE4hhvRO/1

Maybe he is a different person now.  The Post did mention his FINRA record, but the fact is the article does not even scratch the surface of what actually goes on inside John Thomas Financial.  If he ever seriously ran for anything I could only expect that the media would rip apart the working conditions and ethics inside JTF.  Also, did Belesis ever go to college?  I'm not saying that you need a college degree to be a politician. I mean, highly-educated individuals (politicians, bankers, you name it) are partly responsible for the mess we are in.  But the fact is that most politicians have some form of higher education.  He seems to go to great lengths to cover up what he has done in the past and (apparent) lack of academic credentials.

I loooooved your response, "Pissed off" Admin Assistant LOL!
I, too, am a company's 'guard dog' against the scum that is JTF and others, who call 14x a day and LIE through their teeth. I learned long ago that instead of being frustrated with them, I should just laugh and play along.
Do you all know just how much fun it is to string JTF idiots along and then just when they think they are getting somewhere, BAM!  I whip out my own ammo.
Get their broker number and then ask for their compliance officer. They run like a puppy with their tail between their legs.
And you're right Admin Asst, it IS truely an entertainment and it's no hardship for me to sit back and get paid to listen to them make fools of themselves.
One of our major board members passed away and a month later, mister JTF over there claimed, over and over again, that he had spoken with him just the day before. My response? "Interesting, because he's been buried six feet under for about 4 weeks now."
JTF hung up of course. They always hang up when they know they're not dealing with a weak, newbie receptionist.
Cowards!

Thanks for the laughs JTF. And keep on calling, because I love getting laughs at your expense.

It makes me smile to see your description of us as "pissed off secreterys who don't want to deal with stock brokers" who need to "get a job that pays more than 9$ an hour".  Lovely.  The truth of the matter is that apparently we make more ($40,000 /yr) than you poor schleps standing for 12 to 16 hours a day trying to break into this psuedo-career at John Thomas; and in a beautiful twist of fate - we pissed off secretaries have all the power in the world.  Since that awesome disconnect button is right at our fingertips and your sad sack a$$ is NEVER going to be put through to my boss.  We're paid to keep your loser behinds from wasting their time - and it's a joy to screen your weak attempts to squirrel your way through.

Nothing makes my day more than a clumsy, obvious, unskilled, inept John Thomas representative trying to lie his way through to my boss.  It's entertainment that money just can't buy!  Keep tryin' boys, I'll keep sending you right to the special voice mail we have set up just for you.  It's the one that automatically deletes all messages every 24 hours.  Beautiful!  ;-)

BLOCK THE CALLS IF YOU CAN!!!
Professional as in professional thieves. Absolute pure evil and greedy wicked scumbags. Everything bad you have ever heard about brokers is practiced there. Please, please, please do yourself a favor and do not invest one red cent with them. They will ruin you. Just search Google for 'John Thomas Financial and Interoil' or 'John Thomas Financial and FRAUD'. I am really trying to help you. They play off greed and so you "win" a few times and then they will take it all and you will wind up in arbitration getting maybe a small portion back, maybe nothing. Whatever you do get back will be split with you by lawyers (besides the monumental other fees the lawyers will take a portion of your 'settlement'.)
