bogus company SCAM!

Called today but no one was on the other end of the call.  Eventually it dropped.  Guessed it was some sort of scam.

They called with an incorrect name that was close to mine and said that they had documents to serve on a legal complaint.  I asked for a return number.  The woman provided a File number and a different telephone number and said if the person she wanted to reach called back they would verify her identity through her social security number and then give her the information on the complaint.  Clearly a scam to try to obtain social security numbers.

This number called me asking if I'd accept service on behalf of an ex boyfriend from 20 years ago!!! I told them they had the wrong # and wrong address

It is collections NPS Company, they say they are legal services to settle a debt before their client (in my case HSBC Bank of which the debt is from 2001) takes me to court, if I do not settle they will serve me documentation, and if I do not respond or show up to court a lien can be placed against my property, bank accounts, and 25% garnishment from my paycheck. The agent was real nice but I told her I dont have it cause I am in between jobs, I DID NOT COMMIT MYSELF TO MAKING ANY PAYMENTS. She told me good bye and best of luck.
