Called and went to Voicemail.immediately The message indicated that it was an inmate calling from a jail. I hang up immediately. Why? I knew it's Scam!

I received a call from this number today, but was on another call & it went to Voicemail. The message indicated that it was someone calling from Cook County Jail. I live near Cook County & it could be someone I know trying to reach me. I'm not aware of anyone that I know in jail & am not associated with 'criminals', but realize that it could be a fellow activist or journalist who's been arrested as I do know many of each! Although the area code is Los Angeles, these calls are NOT necessarily coming from LA and indeed appear to be calling cards issued to inmates anywhere in the United States. Keep in mind that the caller may have been recently arrested & may not be a criminal at all! Remember: "Innocent until proven guilty" and in our current political climate & ongoing problems with law enforcement, this call could be coming from someone that you DO know & they may be in desperate need of help!

The call is placed  by someone in jail. They, the caller, are using a calling card. They may have the wrong number. It does not cost you to answer and tell them  they have the wrong number.  It's not a scam call its from a calling card. It's just someone looking for family.

Jst got back to back calls from this number..how do u scam people from prison? Sounds like they have too much freedom

Pat UR completely wrong. The number in question here is a calling card number in which an inmate at a penal facility is allowed to purchase in order to call family and friends or loved ones. Sometimes an inmate may have the wrong number therefore if you except the call tell them that you don't know them they will stop calling you. If you never accept the call and tell them that it's the wrong number then they're going to keep calling you. Pat inmates that work as telemarketers would be calling you from an 800 number or a unavailable or blocked number. Those numbers you cannot call back because of reaching the inmates.

Got call from this number last night and it was someone identifying themselves as being  in jail or prison.  Going by the area code, it's California and I know no one in prison in that state.  Blocked the number off my phone so as to not receive any future calls from this number.

FUNNY....I do that to solicitors when they call back too!

I received a call from this number and it was a recording in Mexican (language). All I could get was that I was supposed to press "1" for something and "2" for something else. Of course, I hung up.

When they call instead of pressing one accept.all you have to do is hang on a few seconds it will give you an option to block all calls from that number.

It's a calling card issued to county jails in the United States. It's paid for by the inmate and the call is free for you.

This number has called several times, even as late as 11:15PM. I do not recognize the number so I don't answer. Evidently the Do Not Call list doesn't apply to them?

Someone called from this number l ain't answer cause I didn't know who it was. Then they tried to call from a 866# someone help me. Cause I was skeptical about accepting cause my service is with Metro pcs and I was unsure I'll be billed.

I receive calls from people in jail and Prison every day. If you received this call from the phone number (213) 543-0000 one of three things is happening; 1.) You know someone in jail or they know you - CALL JAKE (408)269-0009. 2.) It is a calling card for a jail management system using the phone number on your caller ID, - Call Jake (408)269-0009 3.) The inmate is bored and is calling any or all the phone numbers that he may remember. (Trust Me - These guys (and gals) have nothing better to do than remember old stuff and write it down. IN ALL CASSES RECEIVING CALLS FROM (213)543-0000 - CALL JAKE (408)269-0009 @ JAKE'S BAIL BONDS.

They called me 3 times but i was to chicken to answer it cus didnt recognize the number but it being jail makes sense cus i got a couple friends in there yeahyaa

Push the number "6" to block calls from this number.   That's what I did and it worked for me.

Keeps calling

i got 8 calls yesterday from this number...i live in ga...did not recognize the number so never answer...a voicemail was left with someone from a jail was trying  to call...when i have taken jail calls it is always 866 or 877 numbers. what is this. i added the number to my auto reject...weird

I have been getting these I got ahold of Securus I called Main Support: 1-800-844-6591  there is an option to block your number from being called again.

this number keeps calling my number...was wondering if its patrick huynh neblock. if so i need him to email me. other ten that i will not accept calls from this number. tis patrick says he was going to court for his identity was stolen by the nigerians scamming money, plz he needs to email me & i had given him my email or he can google me.

Two calls last night and it started again this afternoon. 213 is definitely Los Angeles and probably coming from the jail. I have no clients there so I won't answer and wouldn't anyway. Thanks for the other postings - helpful to know what is going on with others getting similar calls. Ignore and don't answer.

I'm young and I don't know anybody in prison and nobody from that area code has any reason to reach me so I don't know what's up with it.
