I received the same email and text message. Also a "confirmation letter" asking for ID. My guess is they use the info on your identification to steal your identity or worse. The letter says they will contact you for your bank info.Do Not provide any of your personal info. Its a scam!!! They will empty your account. Beware!!!

Hilton Head & Bluffton- Beware
Hilton Head & Bluffton- Beware

Hilton Head and Bluffton residence beware.
Out of the blue, I received a phone call from 707-256-8670 notifying me that I was 1st place winner of a UPS Las Vegas megabucks prize.  Scammer asked me to purchase a $200.00 Walgreen or Wal-Mart green cash card to collect my winnings. I live in Hilton Head Island and call was from Las Vegas.

Received a call from supposedly Las Vegas, Nevada that said I was a $12.5 Million winner of a Las Vegas Megabucks Sweepstakes and a new Mercedes Benz; also 75,000 would be collected from Western Union. The caller said his name was Bill Washington and that he agreed to accompany me to WU to fill out the paperwork. However I had to pay $200 with a Walgreen or Wal-Mart green card to claim my prize.

I searched to see if the offer was a scam and found many more similar claims (http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-213-784-4873).

Called neighborhood security and they suggested that I call the local police.  Both security and the sheriff came out and were told the story of the call.

Bill Washington (the scammer) called back while security was still at my home.  I put him on speaker phone so the officer could hear the call.  The scammer asked if I had the Walgreen or Wal-Mart green card. I said I did (actually I had not purchase one).  I was asked to turn the card over and scratch off the code and read it to him.  I gave him a number I?d made up off the top of my head.  He said there should be 14 numbers and I only gave him 7; I stalled, pretending to scratch the card again and I read out 7 more numbers.  He asked me to hold for a few minutes while he verified the information.  Moments later he came back on the phone and said the numbers were incorrect. I suggested that he come on out and take a look for himself. There was a pause and it was apparent that things were not going well.

At this time the security officer got on the phone and notified that the law was on to him and that everything had been reported to law enforcement?the offer, his name Bill Washington, and the phone number.  There was a pregnant pause and then a dial tone.

After the call it became obvious that the scammer?s motive was to obtain information in order to cash in the $200.00 money card and then he would disappear.  This whole deal seemed like a lot of effort for such a small sum of cash and the chance of being arrested.  But everyone out there be aware, $200.00 here and $200.00 there slowly adds up to big money and because the amount is so small, many people might fall prey to such a small sum.

If I had met with the scammer, I?m sure that he would have gone to Western Union and there extracted more information regarding my bank accounts, etc. with the promise to secure the additional $75k for me, but in the end attempt to steal funds (in addition to the money card)  using the additional bank information.

Hi,

Our business just received a call from a David King number 877-876-4185. He had a very heavy accent - difficult to understand. He said he needed to speak to the architect and said he was with mega millions. I asked like the powerball and he said yes. He seemed confused about the number and was asking someone in the background. This is definitely a scam.

Got a call purportedly from (860)924 6797 on behalf of Charles Polton "I have won Mega Millions, a 2013 Mercedes Automobile, a WalMart Credit Card prepaid for $38,000 and another credit card prepaid in the amount of $78,000.00 another $565,000.00 for being a senior as well as the $4,500,000. They were going to deliver before 2:00pm today - their delivery guy was in Canada today only. They were going to provide security via a police officer and insurance so I didn't have to worry about the cheque if I lost it. All the taxes were paid and the President as well as the head of our government were advised that all taxes had been paid, and all I had to do was Western Union an amount of $895.00 to a Joan Scata at 9 Borne Way, Suffield Ct. 06078. Told the caller I was a retired police officer - didn't faze him - just kept rolling along. A scam by any other name.

He is trying to get you to trust him so you'll fall for his scam. I don't know the details of the scam, but I'm sure it is a scam.

He cannot keep you on the phone against your will.  When he calls, don't answer.  If you answer, when you hear his voice say "goodbye" and hang up the phone.

If he sends you a check it will be fake.  If you deposit the check it will bounce.  Under US banking regulations, when you deposit a check the bank can only withhold the funds for 1 week.  But this check, drawn on a bank far away, may take 6 weeks or more to bounce.  When it bounces your bank will make you pay back all the money plus a fee for depositing a bad check.

Nothing will EVER come in the mail! But if something does miraculously appear in your mail, take it directly to the post office and tell them you have proof of mail fraud. Postal Inspectors are nasty little devils and take a dim view of mail fraud. Not that it will do much good. The scumbags pulling these scams are invariably overseas and sit in their cheap chairs, wearing their cheap head-sets, thinking they're invulnerable. Until they disappear or get thrown in a jail that's almost as filthy as their home is. Ahh yes! The life of a Jamaican or Indian fraudster is always in the fast lane...stuck behind some fool with a donkey & a cart!
Be Safe. Be Aware.

I recieved a call at my office from a guy who claimed to be Bob Foster, the thickest carribean accent I have ever heard,  I was going to get $2.5million and a brand new Mercedes.  Said he was with the American Mega Million Lottery Company located at 303 Carson Dr. LasVegas, and I had been selected because I made a twenty dollar purchase at the grocery store.  They wanted to send me my prize today but they needed me to pay a small portion of the shipping costs.  $100 dollars (times must be tough for them too) would assure me that my prize came today.  I asked him to let me speak with his manager, he said his manager would call back immediately if I wanted to recieve my prize.  30 seconds later another guy "Thomas Meyers" called me, he however was with Publishers Clearing House(he claimed).  He too had a carribean accent and then he got really mad when I told him that I was reading about his scam on the internet right now ( this thread).  He started yelling at me and calling me a liar.  When he calmed down he "really" wanted me to recieve my prize but as soon as I assured him I was not going to pay him anything until I had my prize, the phone call was over and he had to go.  NO LEGITIMATE SWEEPSTAKES WILL EVER MAKE YOU PAY TO WIN!!!  This scam was so bad I found it quite funny and talk to them for a bit just to see what else they were going to tell me.  I might have paid them  5 bucks just for entertainment value and pity.   Enjoy the show, hold on to your dough!!!

Just received a call from a Mr. Bruce Brooks Nov. 10/12, supposedly from Mega Millions at
67 Carson St., Las Vegas Nevada. The amount of the winnings was 3.5 million. I asked  him to deduct the
$350.00 from the winnings, he said they could not do that. I asked him to deliver the winning and then I would gladly give him, that was imposible also! The # he was calling from 876 585-1132.
Finally got rid of him, told him had to speak to my husband, then I would get back to him. Hope he doesn't
call back! I'll tell him I will report him to the FBI, maybe that will get him running in the opposite direction!
