Someone named DON WILSON left a message at my job Friday, July 11, 2008 that it was critical that I contact him regarding a case he has on me that will be issued in court unless I contact him that day.

The guy has a accent sounding Indian, didn't leave the name of the company he works for, department, or case number. Said to call him back today at 214-618-5897 else my case is going to court.

I got a call on Monday, July 7th from a guy named Don Wilson saying that he had 3 allegations against me that would go up in court the following day at 11:30 a.m. I did not call him back, but on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. he called my job again and told me he was from crime division and I told him so what and don't call me again that I was going to report him to the FBI and he said he will call again in 10 minutes and I would have to take the call and I hung up on him.  I owe them nothing because all my debt was discharged through bankruptcy 3-4 years ago.

I recieved a message from this guy who I could not understand at all. Some officer yeah please. This is a scam. I called him back and notify him that I sent his number and message to the FBI. Which is true since my husband is a agent. I told him to never call me again he said fine and hung up. Then I called back and the voice mail picked up. Ok come on if it's a true debt collector they would have not hung up and shut off their phone. These are con artist beware.

A man with a thick Indian accent called my office # asking for my co-worker saying he has committed criminal activity. I said call him, not me. He called back 3 times and asked for my co-workers supervisor. I said I was not at liberty to give that out and said why don't  you speak to my co-worker..he is right here. I transfered called and then looked up # in this site and saw it was a scam. I sametimed my co-worker to not give out his personal information and he didn't.
All is well, but I am sorry for the others that fall for this scam. Poor them. Some may be the elderly and that concerns me big time.

Update:

A consumer posting a complaint about these same scammers at http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-718-831-7157 notes that 718-831-7157 is associated with an India-based "outsourcing" telephone bank.  Though a reverse search on WhitePages.com shows that 718-831-7157 is an unlisted land line in New York City, information on Debtbuyers.Com shows that that number is used by India-based Intellisourze. (Source: http://www.debtbuyers.com/debtbuyers.asp ) My guess is that it's a VoIP phone number.

This is another piece of the puzzle that fits in perfectly with other information about this scam. There are some reports on 800Notes that have suggested that the crooks behind this offshore scam are also the crooks behind the notorious Bass/Ellis Crosby & Assoc./States Predisposition scams in Florida and Georgia. The interesting thing is that the number of complaints on here about the US National Bank/US Legal Investigation/Federal Investigation scam skyrocketed *after* April 7, 2008 when Florida obtained a $1.3 million judgment against Ted Ellis Crosby, shutdown his operations and barred him from ever conducting debt collections in Florida (Read http://myfloridalegal.com/newsrel.nsf/newsrel ... 5257424005858A6 ) There's certainly a good chance that the crooks placing these calls from India are doing so on behalf of the American crooks behind the Crosby/Bass/States Predisposition scams.

Here's the contact information for the phone bank in India:

IntellisOurzE BPO
701, Sapphier, Nr. Cargo Motors,
C.G. Road Navrangpura,
Ahmedabad - 9. (Guj.) INDIA.
E-Mail: info@intellisourze.com
Website: www.intellisourze.com

A check on the domain name "intellisourze.com" shows that the website and name registration was created on May 8, just one month *after* the Crosby scams were shut down in Florida:

Domain Name: INTELLISOURZE.COM
Registrant:  Pragra Infratech Pvt. Limited.
Email:  ankur.ranpariya@pragra.com
908, Aksaht Tower, Nr. ICICI Bank
Opp. Rajpath Club, S.G. Highway
Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India 380054
Tel. +91.7926871353
Creation Date: 08-May-2008
Expiration Date: 08-May-2009
Domain servers in listed order: ns5.znetindia.com ns4.znetindia.com
(Source: http://whois.domaintools.com/intellisourze.com )

Though scam calls from these crooks have been going on long before May 8, the frequency of complaints about these calls increased considerably after Crosby was shut down in early April.

This is conjecture, but appearances suggest that Crosby and company were originally running a two-pronged payday loan scam operation -- with some calls being made from Jacksonville, Florida and other calls being made from a phone bank in India (and possibly other countries); then, after the Florida Attorney General shut down the Crosby scams in Florida, the Crosby crooks transferred most of their scam efforts to the India phone bank.

If you are targeted by these criminals, be sure to report them to all the following federal and state law enforcement agencies (most of which you can do online or over the phone):

1) The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.

2) Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov  Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone who are posing as federal law enforcement. Be sure to give as many details as you can.

3) File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone.  Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.

4) File a complaint your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.naag.org

5) File a complaint online with The Federal Trade Commission at https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01

If these crooks call back, promise them nothing, pay them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you know they're a scam and that you've reported them to law enforcement. (And be sure to report them to all the agencies above each time they call you.)

By the way, here's just a small sample of numbers used by this particular group of scammers. Read the reports and you'll see the same pattern time and again -- phony organization names, thick foreign accents, and oddly worded threats that are so melodramatic and ridiculous that it's laughable:

Thanks Brian. That makes me feel better. My husband is a deputy here in Palm Beach so I picked up on that right away, but the Payday loan I made that the company folded up on was a year ago, so I thought well maybe...but things he was saying just did not make any sense to me. And when I started researching it online and found all this, I knew that this was bogus.

I did call him back and ask him what department he worked for and he did just that, he hung up.

Then when this guy called me from "MW Marketing" identifying himself as the supervisor, well needless to say, I stopped right there.

I did't even get a voice mail when I called back, I got this load music like his cell phone went on in his car and he didn't know it.

I'm going to speak with my husband tonight on this for sure. I've got all my notes I made during the phone call today and the email they sent as well as my response to them.

Trust me these guys are not Police Officers.  I have researched them fully and they are located in Dallas, TX.  They also use cell phones.  The best thing to do is call the local office of the FBI and report them for extorsion.  I have learned that if you call him and ask him what PD he works for he gets very irrate and will hang up on you.  Also, he seems to be a FLO-RIDA fan, if you listen to his voice mail.

I received today a call from the Officer Shawn Michael. It was the same as I have read, he knew my SS#, where I worked and everything, so at first I thought he was legite and then as we progressed in the call, I really became susspicious cause on one hand he's telling me that this company was just notifying me that they were taking me to court then he tells me that they want to make a settlement. I did make a payday loan on line and one company just disappered and stopped taking money out of my account, so after several attempts to try and contact them I figured they would eventually call me. It clinched it for me that something was up when I called him back and requested something in writing. At first he told me he was just going to tell them I wasn't interested in settling this and to pursue legal recourse then I get a call back from another guy, also with an Indian accent saying he is the representative of MW Marketing and he will tell "Mr." Michaels to email me the agreement. Well I got the email and there's no contact information, no business name, it was something someone just typed up. So I emailed him back and told him I appreciate him emailing me however I did some research and did not like what I found on the internet and was going to investigate it further before I paid any money to anyone. I told him I was going to seek legal council and since Monday was a holiday, I would call him back on Tuesday. He told me the person I needed to pay was the manager for MW Marketing, by the name of Paresh Choithani in Union City New Jersey. I don't know, but I am going to do some more research.

Ignore their threats; it's a scam aimed at stealing your money.

This is a very active group of overseas scammers who attempt to extort money from Americans with a myriad of false and illegal threats. They alternately pose as debt collectors, federal and state law enforcement officers, lawyers and bankers. They use any number of phony names such as US National Bank, US Legal Investigation Bureau, Hopkins Law Office, Morgan Associates, White Collar Crime Unit and many more.  These crooks also use caller-id spoofing software and/or VoIP to disguise their real location and to make it appear that they are calling from American area codes.

One thing to remember is that anytime someone calls you demanding money to prevent your arrest, it is ALWAYS a scam. No debt collector (let alone criminals posing as debt collectors) have the authority to have anyone arrested for anything. (And it's illegal to them to threaten such a thing.) And since these foreign dirtbags routinely impersonate law enforcement, it's also important to remember that American law enforcement officers aren't in the business of debt collection.

The bottom line is, these are criminals trying to steal your money. I suggest you do all the following (most of which you can do online):

2) Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov  Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone and give them all the details.

Read the reports and you'll see the same pattern time and again -- phony organization names, thick foreign accents, and oddly worded threats that are so melodramatic and ridiculous that they're laughable:
