appreciate this site. I just got a call from 239-247-5552 asking for the homeowner. I asked to take a message for them. he said his name was Peter Franco, but sounded like he was in India, in a giant call center. He said very important that we call back, it was about our computer, very important.
Marsha 2014-04-14 20:55:09 Unknown
I got the company name Microtec(h) Support, 855-593-3163, from a person who also sounded like he was from India but gave me the name "Alex Perez." We don't have any computers running on Microsoft operating systems, so I hung up on him after warning that I would report him to the government because we are on the "do not call" list. Then I went to the "do not call" website and made a complaint. Everyone here should do the same.

I just received a similar call, which I thought was very suspicious. I told him I was outside and could not get to my computer. He told me to call back to 239-247-5552 at Microsoft when I had my computer on, and his name was Ricky Sylvester. He had a very odd accent. I recognized the 239 area code as usually coming from telemarketers, so I told him we no longer had internet service. He then hung up on me.

Caller "Roger" with an Indian accent, claimed to be calling from MicroTech in Houston, TX to provide unsoliced tech support for a supposed problem with my computer. Phone number he provided on my request has area code 239, which is south Florida. I have had a series of phone calls from same scam. They refuse to stop even though I tell them every time that I am reporting them and not to call back. When will the FCC and law enforcement crack down on these people?

Scam, scam, scam. I was downloading latest version of Java, which was necessary for a construction management cloud based program put out by Oracle. Watch what you click! Embeded in the download was an extra, unnecessary click which was a virus. Computer froze up and I could not do any work. Their solution popped up, but I was unsuccessful in downloading their fix. They called, and what do you know for $70 and more downloading my computer stopped freezing up. They wanted to get me on a plan for $226 for the year. I said no thank you. My computer still had difficulty going on line so I called in a local tech. I had their virus - Systweak is what the computer tech had to delete and/or cordon off to fix it. Microtec have now called me back twice (I am on their sucker list) trying to get me to let them download more. HA! Once bitten twice shy. Difficult to get off the phone with these guys, they do not like hearing a no.
howard 2014-04-04 23:39:26 Unknown
same story "leo" from microtech said every time I check email I am downloading viruses. He wanted me to go online. told him no time.

Note that this person is from the company that is calling - 239-247-5552.
The first time they called me I asked them for the IP address of the computer to which they were referring. She got angry and hung up on me. The second call they furnished me with the IP address and their return phone number. I looked up this type of call on the net and found a page where it explained the scam.

We also have been receiving multiple calls from this number. In the past we told them we didn't have a computer, but that has not stopped the calls. LIke others said, it is a bad connection and the caller always has a heavy accent. He knows we have a microsoft computer and claims that he needs to repair it. Today I asked for his call back number and found this forum. I hope someone finds them.

I got a call from a man claiming to be from Microsoft who told me my computer was infected and I needed to press the windows + r keys. He claimed his name was Patrick Simon and his phone number was 239-247-5552. He spoke with an Indian accent so I doubted his name. He told me to go to a site called showmypc.com which looked like site to purchase security systems. He thought I was ignorant so I played his game but never did what he said. With a little bit of searching, I found that Microsoft will NEVER contact people in this manner. I finally told him that I don't download anything without researching it first, and he hung up. Just another scammer.

A caller named Calvin Rodriguez called from the number 239-247-5552 and said he was with Microtech Support. He told me my Windows operating system had been compromised and that, if I went onto my computer, he would help me locate and fix viruses. I had him give me his name and number and said that I would call him if I verified the legitimacy of his claim. I called my IT people and they told me this was a scam to render my computer useless. Microsoft personnel NEVER make this type of call.
Richard Latas 2014-02-11 19:19:33 Unknown
Caller said his name is Albert Hayman of Microsoft, and our computer is downloading virus. . . that there is internal softward corruption in our PC. Said I need to call him back at 239-247-4442 so that he can "take over our computer, and get rid of the problem." I'm trying to contact Microsoft to see if this is legitimate, but it really feels like a scam.

Like other posters, I got a call 1/30/2014 from 855-210-3300 and a male with a strong Indian accent who told me his name was Jeff with Microtech Support said they had identified that my computer that was running a Microsoft OS had a security breach. He asked if it was going slow, etc. I suspected a scam, so asked which computer he was referring to and he asked if I had any computers running Microsoft OS. I asked for the name of the person he was calling for and he knew my husband's name - who I said was unavailable. He left the same callback number as others have reported 239-247-5552. I asked him to tell me the access code for the OS so I could identify which computer it was, and he started reading his prepared script all over again from the beginning. These people could at least get smart enough to change the callback number of this scam since it has been so widely reported!

Actually 1-855-210-3300 called us "from Microtech support" and said "since you are receiving a lot of errors to a public domain, I am calling you to tell you that I am here to support". He gave his name as Jeff Scott, his call back number was 239 247 5552. This call back number worked, but I found this site. When I explained to "Jeff" (thick Indian accent) about this site, he was laughing it off. I told him that he "can't call me back, take my number off the list, I am a techie who understands what he is saying" he was laughing. He responded, "no I can call you back". He said he was one of the "supervisors" too.
He called back one more time. And I just put the handset dow without responding.

Caller Identified himself as Jain from Micro Tech. He said that my computer is disrupting other computers in the neighborhood and said that he can fix the problem before the police can come an get me. It sounded like a scam and I hung up.

You are either the most gullible person in the country or a plant from this bunch of scammers!
Rule of thumb: Don't answer any call you don't know.
If it is legit the will leave a message so you can check them out. If not....you may have saved yourself a lot of grief.

Hi, everyone. I just wanted to thank you for having posted about this scam. I got a series of phone calls trying to catch me at home; just spoke with someone who identified himself as Denzil Daniels. He was REALLY convincing. I let him guide me a little, but I drew the line at letting him use software to "scan" my computer.
A couple of interesting things:
1. This scam evidently uses the name of a legitimate company (Microtec or Microtech, or whatever), so if you look them up on line, you get the impression they're OK.
2. They use the same phone number all the time. They probably have someone sitting with a cell phone, waiting to answer calls from people who are checking them out.
3. I got suspicious when he sent me to www.showmypc.com. I think this is a legitimate site with a legitimate product, but if they were legitimate and were contracted with Microsoft, they would have their own software for connecting with clients -- not third-party freeware.
4. I checked in with Microsoft support -- they have been getting a lot of these reports.
Again, thanks for posting your comments. I was only sort of suspicious until I hit this site -- then I was sure.
