They call me at home constantly.  It's an auto dialing service, and they're selling a car warranty.  I've asked several times to be removed from their mailing list.  When I call them back, I get a message that says I've been removed from their preferred customer call list.  Nonetheless, they keep calling.  I've given up hitting the option to be removed from their call list...I've done so several times and they keep calling.  Now I ask to speak with a rep, and when I get one, I ask who it is...and of course I'm immediately hung up on.

after reading this I *67 them and got sent directly to a answering machine with 2 options:  1) to remove your name, do not call list.  2) to find out about our services.  NO COMPANY / PRODUCT name just this message.  I choose to have my name removed pressed that option and then left a nasty message...minus my cell phone call back #.  This smeelllllsssss like a RAT !

I recently missed a call from 240-210-7117.  I came across it when my phone started beeping.  My husband was expecting an important call, so I decided to look it up just in case.  All I can say is, "Thank goodness for Google!!"  After watching a show on Dateline about ID theft, I am especially leary.  Those people were working out of an internet cafe in Africa.  Perhaps they are the same people promoting winter displays in February.

I just got one too. 'All inclusive vacation' 'vacation like the celebrities do' in Cancun, Mexico. I get one every single day. Yesterday's was the same number, only stating that I could stay at one resort and play at three - and that someone had entered my name at Sears Travel. I don't know anyone that uses Sears Travel, period. I work for a different travel company.

I am trying to find information on the number but can't find anything.  If you don't say hello or make any noise the computer thinks that you haven't answered and it doesn't start its speach.  The bank do the same thing.  I just got the call in BC at 3:01pm.  If you press 1 like asked some of these  things charge you phone bill. This is all i can find for free

Just got the same call about winning an all inclusive trip to Cancun.

Idiots.  Don't they know we use Google these days?  I was reading this page BEFORE the call ended.

I hope the FCC and other regulatory agencies troll places like this looking for culprits to hammer.

Just got a call from them.  "Congratulations my beautiful friend!  You have just won a 6-day, all inclusive trip to Cancun, Mexico!!  Press 1 now, you lucky person, to speak to a representative and receive all the details of your free trip".  I hung up.  Tried to call them back to be removed from their phoning list, but rec'd a busy signal.

This number just called me... it was automated and said that someone had entered my name at a newly set up winter display at Walmart, Target, Macys or Bloomingdales... and I won a vacation. I hung up after I heard this, of course, but I've gotten this same message from SEVERAL different numbers. This one said it was from Maryland. Can I get on a national do not call list for Canada when these people are calling from the states?

spoke to a lady at the FCC.  On her advise, I signed up for the national do not call registry.  If they call me again after 31 days from today, Feb 11, I can and will file a complaint.

BTW, anyone who buys a warranty from one of these companies is being swindled.  These warrantis are all scams anyway.  Just try and file a claim with them...you'll have as much luck getting them to pay up as I have trying to figure out who the hell they are.

Just got a call that "either I or a friend" had entered my name in a store I don't shop in, several hundred kilometers away, and that I'd won a free trip. I didn't bother hanging on long enough to find out what the hook to this scam is. Oddly enough I had a blank number call two days earlier that started out telling me I'd won a free trip too.

Just got the call in BC. Same spiel as Karen's above.  I hung up as well.
Got this same one a week ago.  Really a stupid message; like no one sets up "new winter displays" in Feb. duh! And in this day and age who enters other people's names at a newly set up winter display?  Screams of someone from another "cultural group" failing dismally with their opening line; trying to scam folks in North America.

This is definitely a scam going on - I'm in Canada with no "Macy's or Bloomingdale" displays about vacations, but I'm still getting multiple phone calls similar to Gary's - "I or a friend" had entered my name (not that they actually use my name, mind you!) and we'd won a trip ... beware!

I just got a call from Walmart saying I won a $2600 getaway with free beer.  I thought sweet they just asked to press 1 at the end of the speal.  I didn't hit 1 in time and they hung up.  I thought at first scam and then I was kicking myself for not pressing 1 in time.  After some research on the web I'm finding it was a good thing I didn't.  Freaking scammers.

Telemarketer
I put a manually operated switch on our main phone line so I can switch it over to a FAX machine when I see a tele-marketer's number on the caller ID (you can also make use of an old computer modem for this).  That way all they get is the squeal of the FAX modem in their ear.

Seems to be somewhat effective at preventing on-going calls.  They usually give up after a few squeals (presumably concluding there's no person at that number).  Just to be sure, I switch the line back after it's squealed for 10 seconds or so ... don't want to let them think they can successfully send me junk FAXes.  #;-))

The other things we do:

- NEVER answer any questions when you don't know who's calling and, if it's a tele-marketer, tell them to stop calling and hang up (no discussion, just inform then hang up)

- use caller ID and an answering machine to screen ALL calls ... set the answering machine to answer after a large number of rings (7 or more) as many tele-marketers won't wait through that many rings

- to combat the machine-driven "I'll play you a 3 minute ad" -- MACY's!!! -- strategy, if you're not sure, don't speak when you answer as these machines are voice-triggered ... if you don't get some talking from them after 5-10 seconds, just (note the number) then hang up -- from then on, give 'em the FAX treatment

- if you can ID the company they're calling for, phone/write the company (preferably an executive in marketing) and let them know that this kind of advertising has only lost them your business and that you'll NEVER react in any other way to tele-marketing

... and MOST OF ALL, vote with your dollars (don't deal with companies that use tele-marketers) and let them know that you're voting with your dollars!

I also received the call and it said something about Target, Bloomingdales, Walmart etc. I also live in Canada and the only store relevant is Walmart!  They say a family member or friend of mine has previously visited one of the stores mentioned and put my name in for a contest!  A winner for Cancun, Mexico!  I just hung up after this!!  Wish they would stop already!!  I ended up blocking this number as well as many other's!!

Called, Dead Air... Called back got that message about being removed... the number reports as being in Waldo, if u look closer it appears the bill more then likely goes to a post office box, as the roads have names like post office rd.

I used to work at an ISP, to avoid Long Distance we had a cell forwarded to another number, thats what these idiots are doing, only its to avoid finding out where they are operating from
