thanks for the helpful info. This number called today and, since I was in the middle of a meeting, I didn't answer. Since there was no message, I was curious and googled it.
I'm curious - how do they obtain cell phone numbers or do they do some sort of robo calling of a series of numbers?

I don't own a car and I keep getting these calls too. So do my friends. There has got to be a way to track down this annoying caller. Anyone know how?

I get these calls every few weeks, and it's always from a different number. I wish these a**holes would stop calling.
Mae 2011-06-06 20:44:15 Unknown
I didn't answer as it's an area code that I am not familiar with. I Googled the number and found this site.

I got a call from this number again about an hour ago - 4:49 pm PT. These clowns call every other day and at different times. I am on the do not call list, yet they still call.
Danielle 2011-06-06 20:44:15 Unknown
Called me also- luckily I did not answer because I didn't recognize the area code nor the phone number.
Chachi 2011-06-06 20:44:15 Unknown
No name, no answer, no message.

They just called me on my cell phone but I no longer answer any calls when I don't recognize the number. I've learned to just ignore them, otherwise waste time, minutes battery life, etc.
let's find out which company this is and all call them and tie up their phone lines to cost them money.
payback is a b***h

JD 2011-06-06 20:44:15 Unknown
They called & didn't leave a message this time. The first time it was a recording about my car warranty expiring or something. c**ts.

I've received two calls on my cell from this number. Both times I had missed the call, checked to see if there was a message, and there was none left. Has any one received mail about a vehicle warranty? My husband has received three pamphlets from "Motor Vehicle Services" about a factory warranty about to expire on our vehicle. The letter is extremely vague, but provides a phone number. I called and the recording said to call during business hours. Connection?

Hello Everyone,
I know how this is done. Quite easy.
1. There is a company that sells phone cards that gives you an 800 number to dial into (their company), then you enter a bogus number you want to use. Next, you dial your victim who sees the bogus number on their caller ID. You cannot trace the caller's actual phone number. This company also has a feature where you can change your voice on the call to sound like whatever gender or ethnicity you want.
I don't remember the name of the company, but I am looking for it now on the net. I suggest all reading this to locate the company. I remember them having a disclaimer saying the service was designed as a prank for entertainment purposes. But they said if the service was being abused, to report the time and date of your bogus call and they would trace their records to see if it originated from them and who did it.
Here is one such service I found while typing this:
http://www.spoofcard.com/
Since a company or person can alter their callback number, the next phase is getting cellphone numbers. Much easier than residential or commercial phone numbers. That is why they are dialing cellphones.
It is easy to seach on the net the block of numbers that cell carriers use.
Just do a web search using keywords. For example, Verizon has a list of their numbers by area displayed like this: Verizon Reno Nevada area. 775-223. 775-224. 775-225. 775-315 (Carson City) 775-530. 775-560. 775-722.
So now, you use a robo dialer with the last four digits starting from 0001 to 9999. Ex: 775-224-0001
The only way I see stopping this is for many people to go after the companies selling the phone card service masking actual phone numbers.
Entertainment purposes or not, companies like http://www.spoofcard.com is wrong.

Just got the call. Just ignored it though since I didn't recognize the area code. I figured that it was another car warranty call that have become getting popular. I guess I was right.
Kate 2011-06-06 20:44:15 Unknown
I just got a call from the number. I didn't answer, but I wonder how it got my number in the first place.
Jeremy 2011-06-06 20:44:15 Unknown
I got a call from this number yesterday on my cell phone. The caller was unknown and the call appeared to come from AL, USA (I don't know anyone from there). I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. I don't answer calls from unknown as they're either a scam or someone selling something I don't need. I think it is important to report such calls on sites like this as it's our only real defense against annoying and criminal robo-callers.
