If you get a call from this telemarketer, please file a complaint with the FCC and FTC: http://www.fcc.gov/complaints and https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx. If they receive enough complaints, they'll investigate. In addition, they send information on how to file a lawsuit. If enough of us file and win, that should have an impact. What a great revenge, earning money FROM them! Information on their website says the FCC have shut down several of these scams.

They call frequently. Obviously a scam since they don't identify themselves other than TEXAS. Texas what? I called them back and a message stated their box was full. I am on the do not call list which is a joke.

I block calls with a Voip telephone service. I have used Ooma.com for over two years and have not had a telephone bill the whole time. It is great! The system offers: call waiting, call forwarding, block/black list numbers. Check it out. I did not believe it when I first started using it so I kept my land line just in case (for my business) After two months of paying land line bills, ported my number and now I pay Ooma approximately $3.50 per month which is Federal Tax. Try it, you will like it. Good luck

Unfortunately your complaint will be invalid and not acted on. Unless the caller is trying to sell you goods or services and they are not from a company you have done business with during the past 18 months, the Do Not Call list does not apply. In order for your complaint to be valid you have to list what they were trying to sell you as part of your complaint. Many of these slime will do everything they can to avoid mentioning that they are selling anything using bogus surveys, prizes and the like. If this particular operation is like other "free cruise" scams, the "survey" is to see if you qualify as a potential buyer, ie correct age bracket, marital status and income level. If you qualify they then try to get you to attend a "brief presentation" without disclosing what that presentation actually is. Again, if this caller is like many similar ones, the "brief presentation" is a 90 minute or longer high pressure sales presentation for a travel club or timeshare. They do not want to disclose this during the call to try and get around the Do Not Call rule. So to make this a valid complaint you need to play along with them long enough to get to the point where you can point blank ask them if the purpose of the call is to qualify you for a timeshare or travel club sales presentation. At that point if they hang up without an answer, you have your answer (yes) and can then file a complaint describing in detail the content of the call. A real PIA to do but that is probably what is necessary to trigger an investigation and then only if enough similar complaints are received.

I want to add this FYI about call blocking for those with landline telephones.
I have a landline phone and my provider in SoCal is Cox Communications.
I just learned that if I have their Premier Plan, I can use *60 to add a list of blocked telephone numbers. Even if I only have their basic plan, it is only $6.00 more per month for this feature, called Selective Call Rejection. Hmmm.
Adding the last incoming call is done by simply pressing #01#. This of course eliminates having to key in the number that just called.
So check with your phone provider if my note applies to your situation and this looks worth pursuing.
Some of you may prefer to purchase a new phone that has call blocking built in.

Weird because it is very the first 7 digits are the same as my wife's cell phone number so I assume it is a wireless number. Received a call from it and missed the call but now I know to add it to the blocked calls on my phone.

FYI, the 281 area code is a Houston (and surrounding area) area code. I answered the call because it is a number that's close to a hospital my granny was in a couple of months ago. Just spam surveys.
But 281 has a lot of residential and cell phone numbers so it's not always a spam call.

Got a cell phone call from Houston. The # is: (281)381-5470. Called back immediately using my land line and their answering machine message says that the box is full. What telemarketer company is this? I am in the government NO CALL LIST and I am not sure how they got my cell phone #.
| Lmorgan 2013-06-03 18:01:27 Unknown |
Farmgirl we have an option on our phone that allows you to block calls that you do not want to receive. When they call again, the phone rings once and then stops. They usually only call back once.

Got a call from this number and the recorded voice said I had "won a cruise for two to the Bahamas". I hung up.

LEGITIMATE Survey companies like Neilson Ratings, Marist College, some REAL news organizations, etc are exempt because their business is doing surveys/taking polls, and nothing else. THAT is what is intended for exemption in the law.
SCAM outfits - like THIS ONE at 281-381-5470 - who use the RUSE of a survey, that is NOT A REAL SURVEY but just a "in" to trusting, unsuspecting people to get them to 'open up' and divulge PERSONAL INFORMATION or to open the door to ACTUAL TELEMARKETING - DO NOT QUALIFY for this exemption.
THIS is a **TELEMARKETING** SCAM, pure and simple and NOT EXEMPT via DNC List rules.
REPORT THEM. https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2
