You are mis informed, they are IN FACT a 501(c)(3) Charity... It is in the paper work they send me every year and I deduct my donations every year. You can also verify that with the Texas Attny General as well as your Tax Advisor.

They DO NOT represent the TX Highway Patrol or any other law enforcement agency, they represent themselves and they are doing this for PURE PROFIT. Sometimes (and often not) they have some agreement where they will pass a nominal percentage of the take to law enforcement, but the % is extremely small, and subject to a minimum amount "collected".  So even if there is an agreement, the call center keeps the bulk of the so-called donations, and in many cases they keep ALL OF THEM.

Ask them if a "contribution" is tax deductible and if they are registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization.  THEY ARE NOT.  They can't get this designation because they are not a charity at all.

This is a profit making SCAM that depends on victims being tricked and intimidated into funding the SCAM under the pretense (that means "LIE") that some law enforcement agency is being helped.

Yes, they do represent the Tx State Highway Patrol Assoc. and will not take you off their list even if you've made a generous donation.

They're a legitimate charity group representing the Texas State Highway Patrol Association.  They're building a museum. But, as I've found out, if you ever give them anything, they will never take you off their list and never give up calling, even after several requests to do so.  Your reward for a good deed is lifetime harassment.  I suspect they sell their call lists to other law enforcement-oriented charitable organizations. I just don't answer any more.  Caller ID to the rescue.

Received a call from C Mathews when I was not at home. My wife had answered and he would not leave a message telling her it was a "civic matter".

A few days later, he called a again and I answered.  He is a solicitor (telemarketer??)for one of the Texas DPS organizations.  When I questioned why he was calling again after I had already made a donation, he became belligerent, wanting to know which group I had made a contribution.  I asked how many groups were currently representing the Texas DPS. He said there are four.  I told him I was not interested and hung up.

He's now calling me...we need this idot stopped.

I have now receieved several calls from "C Mathews"
at 281-477-3208 asking for me by my FIRST name like we are friends.
When told it is not me (because I am NOT going to admit it is me when I have NO IDEA who the man on the phone is!) I am also told it is a "civil matter" and told he will call back.
He never answers any questions or leaves a message.

Now that I have a little more info, I will definately do what I can to put this person/company out of commission.

Get calls from this number several times per week. My husband has told them not to call.

Maybe we need to report the phone number and name to the *Charities Review Council, our local Better Business Bureau, and to our state's Attorney General's Office.  They might be interested in 'his' posts on this website, also.

C Mathews called at 8:09 pm cst and asked for my husband.  Told him husband was not in.   He stated he would call back later.   I asked if there was something I could help him with.   He then stated,  "No, it's a civic matter."... and then he hung up while I was trying to ask him what company he was with, what he was selling, how he obtained our phone number, etc.   I have tried several different ways to 'return the call' and the line is always busy.   I WILL find out who these individuals are, and I will post again.

Called at 8:30 pm and asked for spouse.  When I asked him what it was about he told me it was a "civic matter" when I asked him several times who he was with and what he wanted he kept repeating it was a civic matter.  He then told me he had talked to my spouse before and would call back later I asked him to please remove our number from his list.  His response was "I WILL NOT, I WILL CALL BACK LATER!" and hung up.
