I also get brief calls from 301-459-5885. No voice mail left. When I do answer, the caller hangs up immediately. Let's get this guy.

I also was getting calls from this number and the guy had an Indian accent.  I told him I would call him back, with no intention of doing so, and he was like I'll call back at another time.  I have been getting calls from Smart One energy every once and awhile even though I keep telling them I'm not interesed.  I will do what someone else suggested and report them to National Do Not Call.

Keep getting calls from this number. When I answer...nothing, then the computer hangs up. Finally got someone to talk...they are calling from SmartOne Energy and offering alternative gas services, as mentioned on the Washington Gas website: http://www.washgas.com/pages/MDRESSupplierQA

The rep gave a call back number of 1-888-363-4976.

Wanted my Washington Gas Company account number, was very insistent.  Called Washington Gas and was told that the call had been from another gas supplier.

Yes, a man with an Indianian accent called this morning and stated that he was from the
Washington Gas Co.  and wanted to give me a discount.  I told him that I was not interested.  I asked him not to call my number again.  Then, I blew a loud whistle in his ear and hung up.

next time tell them everyone in the household is deceased and this is the parlor answering for the dead and hang up.  Then they will wake up and realize that the game is on and we can plat tilt for tat...out talk them...play into their game on the first call and They will drop dead.

This is actually a slamming attempt as well as a possible scam.  They try to trick you into agreeing to change you gas supplier.  Illegal telemarketing at best.

Called saying I was eligible for a discount on my Washington Gas bill. Sounded like a scam (and I see here it likely is), so I hung up. I have continued to receive calls from this number every day since then (4 days total).
Prior to this, I received 3 calls from 516-629-6675/Gloria Lindner - which I also see mentioned here.

Interesting.  When he first called (phone reported "Gloria Lindner") and started his spiel, I interrupted him to ask him the name of his company.  And then I said "So you are not from Washington Gas?" and he said, "No, I'm from ----."  At which point I told him not to call here anymore.  Sounds like now he has learned to tell people he is calling from Washington Gas.  

I've reported him to National Do Not Call, suggest others do the same.

Received three calls right in a row from Maryland/301-459-5885.  I don?t usually answer these types of calls but since there were three calls right immediately after the other, I thought it might be someone who knows I don?t answer these but needed me and kept trying, so I answered.  It was a man with a heavy Indian accent - ?Steve? - claiming to be from Washington Gas.  I had already heard about this scam.  He wants your account number (hello, if you?re from Washington Gas you should know my account).  If you stay with the call, he tells you that you qualify for a reduction in your gas bill and if you agree to the terms, he will initiate the deal.  Problem is, he changes your supplier.  We all need to report this scam to the FCC.  It finally worked with the ?Credit Card? lower interest rate scammers.  Has anyone else noticed that we aren?t receiving those calls anymore?

How can I "block" this caller?  I have 7 calls in my history, all the same:  Less than 3 seconds long.

Calls and hangs up when he hears my voice. (I am on multiple "do not call" lists) When returning a call to this number (captured on caller ID): number is "not in service".  Annoying.

Just received a call from 301-459-5885. Indian accent, asked for head of household (who probably appears in the phone book). I said she wasn't here, and he simply hung up the phone.

I received a call this week from a guy with a heavy Indian accent who said that I qualified for a discount on my gas bill.  I asked him what company he was with, and he gave me the name (I forget the name).  I told him not to call back, put him on call block and reported the call to the Do Not Call Registry.  Now I got another call, from this number (on 2/20), and looked for it on line and found your post.  Sounds like the same guy, different phone number.  I wonder what he thinks he will get if he keeps calling people who tell him not to call back?

They called saying they were "Washington Gas" requesting account infOrmation. A man with heavy Indian accent just received the same type of  call last week from 301-962-8181 and yes, it sounded like the same person except this time calling from a different #.
