Received call (Unavailable ID) at 9:37am, 9-27-2010 in Maryland. Claims to sell medical supplies. Reverse lookup puts call from Dover, Delaware, if not a fake number.

On the 8th call today I was home and I answered it while I was on the Internet
doing a reverse look up on the number of 302-747-7777 to see who was calling.
After about 3 or 4 seconds a man with a very strong accent, Indian I suspect, he
immediately started asking me if there was anyone living in my house with
diabetes. After asking him several times who he was with, he told me he was
with ?Seniors Diabetes Network?. I told him to slow down because I was writing it
down and when I did he hung up on me. When I Googled it it came up with the
following website - http://seniordiabetesnetwork.com. I haven?t read the whole
thing yet but from what little I did read it appears to be another scam to defraud
Medicare part B at the taxpayers expense for diabetes supplies and electric
scooters. I plan on writing a letter to the Attorney Generals office in Delaware
this weekend and one to Medicare as well. Don?t waste your time complaining to
the FCC because I have been told by a supervisor that handles the Do Not Call
and Junk Fax sections that they had ?no intentions of doing anything about any
of these calls because they were underfunded and overworked and that I should
contact my congressman and tell them that they (the FCC) needed more
funding?. And the government wants to raise the rates and cut the benefits for
Medicare and people wonder why!
| Richard Trivelli 2010-12-13 19:03:48 Unknown |
the number that called about diabetic supplies was 302-747-7777 almost the same.

Identity Theft Scam Targets Diabetics
Scammers calling people with the disease in Mississippi, seeking personal data
July 27, 2010
If you have diabetes, you may have another potential risk: becoming the target of an identity theft scam.
The disease-specific scheme first showed up in Mississippi, where diabetics have reported telephone calls from people claiming to be from the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi and the American Diabetes Association. The callers request personal information such as social security numbers, dates of birth and credit card information.
The scam is all the more effective because the caller knows the intended victim has diabetes.
The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi and the American Diabetes Foundation reported these complaints to the Consumer Protection Division of the Mississippi Attorney Generals Office. While Mississippi is the only state to report the scam, it's very possible that it will spread to other states.
Stay alert
Legitimate organizations like the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi and the American Diabetes Foundation will not initiate a phone call or send an email asking you to provide, update or confirm sensitive information. Before responding to any request for personal information, consumers should contact the institutions directly to ensure the request is valid.
"Unfortunately, scam artists will often use the name of reputable organization to lure consumers into thinking they are dealing with a familiar organization," said Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood. "Because of this, we continue to urge consumers to use caution before acting on unsolicited emails, voice mails, text messages or phone calls requesting personal information. Educating our consumers is one of the most important actions we can take to combat scams like this one."

The first call asked if I was diabetic and asked other questions. I answere a few and then said I wasn't interested. Today, Oct 7, I received another call and I said no one was diabetic. Some foreign lady said "Thanks for being a liar" and hung up. I AGREE WITH ALL OF THE ABOVE MESSAGES FROM OTHER RECIPIENTS OF THESE CALLS.

I have been receiving calls from the above number every day and about 6 times a day. They let it ring till it gets to the 3rd ring and then hang up. The answering machine does not have a chance to kick in.
I never answer when I see the number appear on my caller ID.

They called our house today at 4:13pm, 4:51pm, and 5:27pm. They've called every day this week. Each time I pick up and say "take our name off your list." Last time I said "we're on the do not call list" and they just hung up on me. How can we get these people to stop calling us???

Now at 25 calls. Received the following reply from Delaware DOJ.
Thank you for contacting the Delaware Attorney General's website. Your complaint has been reviewed and it has been determined that the agency best able to assist you at this time would be the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC's website is www.ftc.gov. Their phone number is 877-382-4357. This issue falls under their jurisdiction. Thank you.

We got six calls from this number, 1-302-747-9999, in the past 3 hours. I have blocked the number. If you have A.T.T. use *60 for blocking numbers. I would also recommend contacting the S.E.C. and B.B.B plus contact your states Attorney General. This should help in stopping this scam artist. He/She picked on the wrong person!

This number called my house all day long over and over again, sometimes as often as every 15 minutes. I didn't answer it because I am on the do not call registry and we don't accept calls that we don't recognize the number. We finally answered out of sheer defense. Hopefully they will STOP this madness! I also registered a complaint on the Do Not Call Registry. It is supposedly targeting senior citizens. Funny thing is, they asked for my son, John, who is 21 years old!
