They text my husband and I saying they are Bank of America. In one of the messages they mention a check. We realized it was a scam since we don't do business with B of A.

I have also received a text message from these people. I am located in south central PA and they referenced Susquehanna Valley Federal Credit Union (FCU) and I of course do not have any affiliation with this bank. They are a very small operation, and non of their numbers correlates with this one. I have notified this bank of the phishing scam so that they can properly relay caution to others. When your bank mentions card numbers, they are supposed to give you the last 4 digits, not the first six.

They probably should not try to scam people who have worked at a bank for over four years!!!

Do NOT reply!!! This is a SCAM!!!!!

If anyone is every unsure about anything, call the bank themselves and they can verify information with you. Many time fraudsters will post things regarding the bank or banks you do actually use!!

I have been receiving text messages from "alert@universityhealthfcuj.org" with the following message:

Your University Health F.C.U Card 409186XXXXXXXXXX has been deactivated. To activate call 3122241636

When I called the number, a female automated voice answered, "Welcome to our 24 hours telephone banking. Please follow the next steps to easily reactivate your card within a few minutes. You will be asked to provide three additional pieces of information including your card number. Please note that for your security all calls may be monitored or recorded and are used to improve the services we provide. Please enter your 16 digit card number." and then it waits for you to enter sixteen digits.

I suspect it uses the Luhn algorithm to try and "verify" a legitimate card number as it rejected the random numbers I inputted. When attempting to escape the system, another IVR voice with a male European accent came on providing error messages.  All in all, this is definitely not a legitimate entity. Whoever it is, the solely seek to gain someone's banking information.

This is not only a SCAM, but FRAUD in the first degree.  They are using various bank names to lure you into providing them with personal information that is later used for identity theft. Complain to Verizon as they are the one's who provide this fictitious number.  The FBI also has a site where you can report illegal Internet activities.

they also claim to be CBT Florida.  Note how in the text they give you the first six digits if "your" card. Not the last 4. Those First six digits are not unique, they are particular to your bank.  Do not call the number.  This is a scam.

Seems they changed banks... just got the text myself...from a bank I do no business with.  "Broadway Federal Bank" card deactivated, call 312-224-1636 to activate.  Ran the number through a search engine, and here I am. I hate folks like this...it's FRAUD, a SCAM, DON'T CALL, don't worry...it's not your bank card.
