Got one today while at lunch.  Since I didn't recognize the number, I just let it ring.  Blocking the number does the jerks a fovor by freeing up thier phone line that much sooner.  If everyone just let it ring, it would make a dent in the number of calls they can make in a day.

Just got a call from 314-666-8278 that called me for the 2nd time 11/14-13/2013. I wonder how these telemarketers or non-human beings would feel if I called their home on a constant basis.  These telemarketers need to go to jail, get their phones disconnected forever & while in jail get unwanted phone calls 24/ 7--perhaps that would/could stop this ugliness!

Robo call recorded 13  November 2013 from (314) 666-8278
Caller ID: Saint Louis MO

Called recently from: (360) 861-6939

This was a really slick call. The caller kept repeating "is that ok?" after asking me questions and I thought it was a scammer who wanted to record me saying "yes" so they could alter the recording of the call and make it appear that I agreed with them for whatever they're trying to pass off on me, but after a while, I realized I was talking to a robot! The robot is queued to advance in the call based on the respondent saying key words, as directed by the robot's questions. Their voice recognition is the best I've heard over the telephone, but as you see in the following transcript, it leaves much to be desired.

There is a link at the bottom to my Spam Calls web page where you can hear a recording of this phone call.

I tried to keep silent until I was afraid they'd disconnect, then I'd say 'hello?' to hold them in the conversation.

I was trying to play with "Robert Green", thinking he was a real person, but finally they disconnected the call.

Here is a transcript of our "conversation":

<me> Hello?
<they> This is Robert from customer care service. How are you today?

<me> Just fine.
<they> The reason for the call is that we're offering relief for unsecured debt. Would you be interested in some financial assistance?

<me> Uh, what sort of unsecured debt?
<they> To be clear, when we say 'unsecured debt', we mean credit card payments, personal loans, and collection accounts. Let me ask you a couple of questions. Is that ok?

<me> Uh, how did you get my number?
<they> Well, I don't, I'm not in charge of the marketing, I don't know where we get the information from. What I do know is that we can save you a tremendous amount of money on your credit card debt. How much debt do you have now?

<me> Oh, loads, don't even ask.
<they> Do you have $8,000 or more in credit card debt?

<me> Ah, easily, yes.
<they> Hey, it looks like you qualify. Well, hold on a minute while I get a consultant on the line, ok? Is that ok? <pause> Are you there?

<me> Hello? I'm here.
<they> Is that ok? Great, I'm gonna transfer you to a specialist, you're gonna be on a brief hold, so don't hang up. Is that ok?

<me> Hello? Hello?
<they> Yeah. Yes. Are you there?

<me> Hello? Hello?
<they> Yes. He'll be with us shortly. Is that ok?

<me> What did you say your name was?
<they> Robert Green. <pause> We need this information to continue. Is that ok?

<me> Robert Green?
<they> Yes. Is your credit card debt $8,000 or more?

<me> Uh, easily.
<they> Ok, that wasn't clear. Can you, can you say that again?

<me> Yeah, I'm seeing some very interesting things about you on the Internet. Looking up your phone number.
<they> Do you have $8,000 or more in credit card debt?

<me> Oh, easily.

<they disconnected the call here>

Caller ID = "customer assist". Wanted to help me get out of debt (which I'm not in).  It was really weird because I never could tell if I was talking to a live person or to a computer program.  The voice sounded very much like an actor's, and the responses were all a little bit off.  I told the person or machine I'd report them to the FCC.  [By the way, I also still have one of those old "telezappers" -- makes a sound like the number is disconnected. However, some robo calls are persistent and get through anyway, although no one is there, while for others I think the computer just keeps calling me back anyway.]

WHY do I care???? I get so many of these. I'm mostly bedridden (old, decrepit)  I don't want to miss family news, so I try to get up each time. What a painful, harmful nuisance.
I would NEVER purchase anything from someone else who initiated the exchange.
As you go through life, I've learned, wonder first - who wants my money now?

Got the call today (10:58 AM)  and since I have called ID and do NOT know anyone in Saint Louis, MO, I did not answer. Of course there was no message left as I knew there wouldn't be. Interesting to read what others wrote about the caller. I have no plans of answering these calls and one can hope that they will stop calling, but I doubt that will happen. They are wasting their time calling here. Thanks to bobu and nobody important and their comments.

Got a call from this number at 7:20 pm on a Tuesday eve in the eastern time zone. Was a real person telling me he was a Wells Fargo bank employee and he wanted to go over my loan. Normally I would have hung up, but he had the correct amount I owed, and the % of interest. I did not give him any info, but now I am going through the pain of changing my account numbers. Don't know how he got that information, but he is good. I have reported this to Wells Fargo

What is wrong with you people?  Who cares who is calling?  Do what I do to end the calls NOW.  Buy a small hand-held tape recorder.  Get someone's business card that has a FAX machine.  Call the fax number and record the buzzing/screeching of the FAX machine.  When a number calls you don't recognize, just pick up the phone, answer it, and play the recording.  The FCC will not help you - no one will help you - so take matters into your own hands.  It WORKS.

First time I can recall that a scammer's robocaller machinery left a message on my Verizon voicemail. Perhaps the start of a new trend? Sigh...

Whatever... It was a "senior medical alert" scam promising thousands of dollars in free grocery coupons. Yeah, right!

So since we have credit card and medical alert scams from the same number, looks like these bozos are running a generic scam operation... they'll do whatever it takes to get your identity info. So if you decide to answer a call from this number, WATCH OUT!

Wise up people -- it must be true that America is full of dumb and stupid people, or people who just do not care -- you cannot do anything about spammers and telemarketers calling you and they all know it --- the government will not do anything about it --- where do you think that the telemarketers get the good numbers to call --- like YOUR number?  Robo calls just go down the list automatically, with no regard from any do not call list.  But others get your number FROM THE DO NOT CALL LIST, OF COURSE!  The telemarketers are provided the Do Not Call Lists and are supposed to remove these numbers from their database. But the telemarketers know that the Do Not Call List are all good numbers and the telemarketers also know that nothing will be done to them for calling all of the Do Not Call List numbers, so they persist. The phone companies will do nothing to stop the telemarketers either --- it is big revenue for the phone companies.  The phone companies are just as much at fault for this mess as is the FCC, the FTC, and the telemarketers themselves.  And everybody knows that Congress is totally useless at anything. Reporting a telemarketer call number to the FCC will not accomplish anything, the FCC will just ignore you. There is nothing that you can do to stop any of it, except to utilize your own devices, and this is not much. Whenever I get a call where I do not recognize the calling number in my caller ID, what I do is to quickly push the talk button on the phone then immediately push the OFF button to cut them off.  DO NOT ANSWER your phone, you are just confirming that they have called a good number. Just press talk then press off quickly. The telemarketer will be charged for the call, and all you will be out will be the time it takes you to push talk then quickly push off --- or if you do not have one of those phones, pickup then quickly hang up.  If you do not have caller ID, well, you are out of luck, you will have no idea who is calling. Blocking calls does not work well either because these telemarketers change and spoof their numbers and names often. Many of the telemarketers use local numbers that have been disconnected as if that number were their own.  Whatever you do, do not call the number back, because, again, you are just confirming that they called a good number and your phone number will be added to the telemarketer list as being good and they will then persist in calling you often. Additionally, telemarketers sell and trade good phone lists often with other telemarketers, so once you get on one list, you will soon be on many lists. So, just push TALK, then quickly push OFF, and be pleased with yourself that you have cut off an illegal call.  It is the best that you can do.

There was a real voice on the other side asking if I would be interested on  having help with financial  advisory I said no and  I asked  to be removed from their list,  but since they use different numbers, they'll  keep calling.

They are using new numbers all the time to get around people blocking them.
Like HH wrote, the only thing one can do is report it to FTC as a violation of the Do Not Call registry.

Just got a call from this number and the robot "Robert" who then told me that "he" was calling to help with unsecured debt.  Reported to FTC as a violation of the Do Not Call registry.  If an actual human being was listening, I hope they enjoyed the choice words I had for their robot "Robert".

Shady...called # back and all it said was sorry you missed our call, if you want you number taken off our list press your number now. Message when I called doesn't state name of company or purpose of call. I recommend not to press your number may only confirm that your number is active. Best to leave it alone. Probably a med alert scam, Home security scam..etc. take your pick.
