Received a text on 01/06/10 stating, "Cardmember Services Alert, Your card starting with XXXX has been deactivated. Please contact us at 316-361-0590 to Reactivate your card." I called the number and it indicated it was disconnected. I contacted my credit card company who said they were looking into identifying the source.

I had a text message 01/06/10 at 7:55 p.m. from "Cardmember Services Alert" regarding my CARD starting with 4614 had been deactivated and to call this number to reactivate it.  First off, I wondered how this person got my cell phone numnber.  I was a bit concerned, however, and looked through my CC'S & did not have one beginning with that #, and I didn't call the phone # it indicated..not at that time anyway.  I called Jan 8 from a different phone number and the number has been disconnected.  Why don't these people invest all their time/energy they seem to have in scamming others, and get a real job???

My husband got a text as described by the others about reactivating a credit card, as well.  Funny, first of all, our credit card companies don't have his cell phone number; second of all, we don't have ANY credit cards with those four digits; third, no legitimate credit card company is going to text a message -- they will send mail to the billing address of your credit card account if something like this needs to be done; fourth, the FIRST four digits of a credit card are specific to each bank.  If a bank is contacting you, they won't use the FIRST four digits, they will reference the LAST four digits, which are specific to YOUR account with them. Someone is collecting credit card numbers for fraudulent purposes.  Don't respond to these type of texts.
