A telephone message does not legally qualify as being served. These are scammers located out of country, likely India where the majority of these scams originate.

Received call from this number today.  My number is associated with a wrong address given by the person that bought a cell phone from AT&T.  They gave MY address to AT&T for their billing.  Received their bill at my address until I called AT&T. They stopped sending the bill and turned it over to collection. Collection companies traced the bill to my phone number because of the wrong address given by the person who bought the cell phone.

SCAM. My inlaws got a call from 317-200-3260 on their new cell phone from a woman named Hargreaves stating that they were going to be charged for litigation for activity associated with their SSN, and that when they received their summons they would lose all of their rights. But by calling this number, they could clear it all up.

None of this makes sense in any legal way; it's a scam.

My calls are same as others 3 months ago the SS# scam, 2 weeks ago the SS# scam again and if I call now I can keep my rights if not I lose my rights, they called my elderly parents iwth same message.  Today called my elderly parents again with the last chance, HR dept. good luck at court thing.  Then called and left me the same message.  I had to explain to my parents its not real, don't worry, I'm not going to jail, they are trying to scare you so you might offer to take care of it.  I told them the same thing 2 weeks ago - they are almost 80 and don't remember.  I'm afraid they will freak and pay these jerks!  Very Frustrating!

The only thing you and your family can do is report them and block their number as far as legal help since they are in a different country your safe from charges against you but the bad news is you can't sue them and they might change their number and start the harassing phone calls again, but what ever you do Do Not Give them Money!

I was also contacted by these people to tell me that I owe a payday loan from 2007 and that I was going to be arrested and charged with a felony.  I proceeded to ask all kinds of questions they could not answer.  I asked for documentation and was told they aren't giving me any since they have contacted me many times (to an address that I haven't lived at for many years) and I never answered them so no they are not sending me any documentation now that I lost my chance LOL.  I asked who the loan originated from and they told me a payday loan but could not give me their number or address because they don't have that information.  Total bull crap.  I Told them to send the police out to get me since that is the only way that I can see documentation that I apparently owe a payday loan that I never took out.  BTW, I live in the state of Maryland and payday loans are illegal, please see below.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________
Collection of Loans Made by Unlicensed Lenders Prohibited

This is a reminder to all Maryland Collection Agency licensees that it is illegal to pursue collection actions against Maryland residents for loans that were made by unlicensed entities, unless exempt under Maryland law.
?Applicable Collection Agency/Debt Collection Laws

As a collection agency licensee, pursuant to Business Regulation Article, § 7-308 (a)(3), Annotated Code of Maryland, your license may be suspended or revoked if you "knowingly or negligently violate[] the Maryland Consumer Debt Collection Act."

One of the provisions of that Act prohibits a licensee from attempting to enforce a right with knowledge that the right does not exist. Md. Code Ann., Com. Law ("CL") § 14-202(8).

The Commissioner of Financial Regulation licenses consumer lenders pursuant to the statutory provisions described below.

?Applicable Consumer Lending Licensing Law

Pursuant to Financial Institutions Article ("FI"), § 11-204, Annotated Code of Maryland, "[u]nless a person is licensed by the Commissioner, the person may not: (1) [m]ake a loan . . . ."

Pursuant to CL § 12-302, a "person may not engage in the business of making loans under this subtitle unless the person is licensed under or is exempt from the licensing requirements of Title 11, Subtitle 2 of the Financial Institutions Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, known as the Maryland Consumer Loan Law - Licensing Provisions."

Pursuant to CL § 12-301(c), a "lender" "means a person who makes a loan under [Subtitle 3]."

Pursuant to CL § 12-301(e), a "loan" "means any loan or advance of money or credit made under [Subtitle 3]."

Collection of Loans Made in Violation of Law Because of Excessive Interest Rate Prohibited

BE ADVISED: It is a violation of Maryland law to collect on loans that exceed permissible interest rate caps. The applicable law on permissible interest rates and the unenforceability of loan agreements that exceed those rates is set forth below.
?Pursuant to CL § 12-306, the rates a lender may charge in interest on a loan are specified. Section 12-306(a)(6)(i) provides as follows: "For any loan with an original principal balance of $2,000 or less, 2.75 percent interest per month on that part of the unpaid balance not more than $1,000 and 2 percent interest per month on that part of the unpaid principal balance that is more than $1,000[.]" That section, therefore, permits a lender to charge a maximum interest rate of 33 percent interest on loans up to a $1,000.

?Pursuant to CL § 12-313(a)(1), a lender may not "[d]irectly or indirectly contract for, charge, or receive any interest, discount, fee, fine, commission, charge, brokerage, or other consideration in excess of that permitted by this subtitle."

?Pursuant to CL § 12-314(a), a person is prohibited from lending $6,000 or less "if the person directly or indirectly contracts for, charges, or receives a greater rate of interest, charge, discount, or other consideration than that authorized by the laws of this State." Furthermore, CL §§ 12-314(b)(1) and (2) provide in pertinent part as follows:

1.A loan made in the amount of $6,000 or less, whether or not the loan is or purports to be made under this subtitle, is unenforceable if a rate of interest, charge, discount or other consideration greater than that authorized by the laws of this State is contracted for by any person unless the excess rate contracted for is the result of a clerical error or mistake and the person corrects the error or mistake before any payment is received under the loan.

2.A person who is neither a licensee nor exempt from licensing may not receive or retain any principal, interest, or other compensation with respect to any loan that is unenforceable under this subsection.

This Office strongly encourages all collection agencies doing business in Maryland to review the above statutory provisions with their counsel to assure compliance when collecting loans from Maryland residents.

Received a voicemail on my cell that two charges were being filed against me for "fraudulent use of social security number." Definitely a scam as I've never done such a thing.

I knew this was BS because I'm a litigation paralegal. I asked my boss (attorney) just to verify. He says if someone is filing charges against you, they don't call to give you a "heads up," they just file and serve.

Definitely a scam. Reported to Federal Trade Commission and Attorney General websites.

Guys, don't fall for this and don't even worry about it. I've been getting calls like this, or some variation thereof, for the last 5 months. In fact, I just got one. Always from a different area code/state. I've never had papers "served" to me. There's nothing on my credit report. Everything they're saying is illegal and a scare tactic to get $ from you. They have no idea where I work or where I live. Bunch of dicks. That's all they are.

These people then lost they  gat dam mind. They know good and gat dam well the courts don't need to "verify" your name and address. They the f****ng government and they should know. The sheriff do not issue "summons" over the phone, LOL!! this s*** is crazy son. If you do not get a summons from the sheriff and the courts, then you don't have s*** to worry about.  They already know where you at, hell! it's the judicial system. You think they had to call "Osama Bin laden" to let him know they wanted that a**? Hell Naw! they knew where he was already. They gone garnish my wages, What the hell? Today, my phone number received 2 more calls with each call a dup message so I ended up with 4 minutes worth of, this is "her" last chance to contact us with "her" current home and work addresses so we can serve "her".

However today's messages added that "her" social security" number has been used fraudulently and 'her" name and SS# will be registered with the Sheriff's department but 'she" still has time to get ahead of all of this by calling the above number so process papers can be served before it ends up in Court.

Regarding whether a Sheriff has tried to serve "her" with papers at my address - almost 15 years when all of this first started with "her".  I showed him my drivers license and explained she used to live here and since it's a rental, feel free to contact the landlord about her forwarding address.  I've never heard back from anyone official trying to serve papers.

Well this is my second "third and final call" from them.  I've received 4 calls from them. Two were from Florida, one from TN & this one from Indiana. This "process server" sure moves around. The name they keep leaving is not my name  not even close!

And I find it funny that they want me to verify my (well the person they're trying to contact) address & POE yet they'll be calling my (well this persons) HR to serve me (well them).

And why can't they identify themselves. Why are they some mystery "process server" & does this "mystery client" have offices in every state? So far I have received 3 numbers from 3 different states.

No I keep blocking their number and they keep saying its my last chance. My credit report is clean. If they don't have your address and place of work they don't have access to your credit report hence they are fake or your debt is too old.
