Left message about verification.

After reading several posts about this number, I wondered if this call had anything to do with recently signing up to get the Star Tribune Sunday paper delivered? Not cool Trib...

has called several times....no message.

didn't answer, but I had a delivery issue with the Houston Chronicle yesterday and I usually get calls from unknown numbers, which I never answer, when the chronicle messes up their delivery.

This number called today and a lady said she was with the Houston Chronicle asking for my e-mail for their digital site. I think it was a scam. I didn't give her any information

I've gotten 7 calls from them in 8 days, (they left me alone two of the days, but one day it was twice.) I'm never available to answer, and they never leave a message.

called....my caller ID showed that info, and I just let it go into the dumpster...been calling every day now...as soon as I eliminate some of the # on my call blocker list, I will block it....my list of 50 is full...

Called...did not recognize the number so I didn't answer it...female,
recorded voice said " this is a service verification and we will call back later"...

I keep receiving robo-calls from different numbers even though I am on DNC list.  I usually ignore them, but this one actually left voice mails.  I called them back and entered my phone number to be removed.  

They stopped calling from that number, but a few days later I started getting calls from 360-836-4844, leaving the exact same voice message.  I called them and asked to be removed as well.  

We'll see what number they call from next; I'm keeping a record of the numbers and will file complaints with the FCC (as you all should, too).

I answered it and it was the Houston Chronicle. I had reported my paper wasn't being delivered and they called to verify that the problem had been reported and was being addressed. No hassle at all.

A caller with a thick Indian accent referred to me by my first name as soon as I answered the phone. It seemed too creepy, so I said "sorry wrong number" and hung up.

Got called by this number and they left a message with a lot of static noise in the background. A woman left a message saying "This is a verification of service...we will call you back later." Then they hand up. I filed a report with the FCC.

Received a call from this number today and they left a VM.  "Hello,  this is a service verification.  We will call you back later.  Thank you."  in a robotic woman's voice.

And one more thing: Those of you who are registered with DNC, you must (continue to) report these jerks to DNC each time they call.

I have received 2 calls from this number today.  Did not answer the first time and they left no message.  Just called again and my son answered and could not understand him so hung up on him.

They call and call and call and never say anything

This company appears to be a contractor with various newspapers around the country to call their customers and get them to renew or maintain their subscriptions. At least that is what he represented himself to be.  Could also just be a verification company who is trying to verify (for a creditor) that the phone number they have for me is valid since I never answer their calls.  Could be the latter because I don;t think or newspaper subscription has an ending date and therefore doesn't need to be renewed.  At this point, I Do care anymore.  :-)

Yours is the best advice yet.  I would only emphasize that, if you do not recognize the number, do NOT call back a toll-free number!  Owners of toll free numbers get very accurate listings of the numbers that call these numbers, EVEN IF YOU BLOCK CALLER ID!

Yes we're getting them too.  Same old crap.  We get a couple a day and usually one around 6-7 pm also>  Dear Ann.......  Now we have a guys voice  calling for Credit Card Services.

This is such a scam. I can't believe people are still picking up the phone for unknown numbers that are suddenly appearing from brand new (to us) area codes. These calls are for made either to sell you something, or to verify you have a working numbers so that they can sell your number to other solicitors who will call you to sell you something. This is a scam.

Once you pick up the receiver, you can be sure you will continue to receive these calls...and more. Best way to get off these lists is NOT TO PICK UP THE PHONE and/or get one of the nuiscance call blockers on the market. Just don't answer the phone!!! If you occasionally make a mistake, and didn't pick up on a legitimate call, the caller will leave you a voice mail.  The scammers wlll not.

After a couple weeks of calling every day, with an auto message in the voicemail saying "this is a verification call...we will call back later," I finally got a voicemail saying "This is the San Francisco Chronicle.  We are calling to make sure you got delivery of your newspaper.  If you have any problems please call [some 1-800 number]."

It's the SF Chronicle.  I never ordered their newspaper.

Hangup call. From Verifcation FR no one answered.  I on a DNC State and Fed list.

I screened the call with my answering machine. Caller ID said 'Verification FR'. Caller could be heard breathing for several seconds, then silence. I don't know who it is.
A collection agency named CBE group, located in Waterloo IA , has erroneously called me in the past, and seemed to have finally taken my number out of their system. The Cedar Rapids -Mt.Vernon IA, area, where today's call originated from, is just an hour away from Waterloo. Coincidence?

This number has called OVER ten times. You can call it back to be removed from their list (but the recording says it is within 2 days).
