My mom happened to donate $77 to a Jewish organization that was on her heart today. Then tonight she gets a call from this number, a lady asking for donations for the medical assistance for black Jews in Sudan.  When my mom said she was retired and unable to help because she just gave to the other organization, the lady said, can you give a 100 dollars?  I took the phone and hung up on her.  And now see from other postings that if someone slated to a political party, they got a call from this number too. Watch out for these liars.

I didn't check when they called. I just saw the number on my phone with no message. I'm in Santa Barbara, CA - I get calls from LA all the time but I didn't recognize this number so I looked it up.

It's a fundraising organization working for the Republican National Committee. I know someone else here said it was the Tea Party Patriots (!!) but all I got as a listing was the RNC.

There is no chance that I'll ever donate to them but they can continue to waste their time and money trying to call me. I hope I'm home next time. That could be highly entertaining.

Received call @1:29PM Pacific Time.  Caller ID read "California".  I let my answering machine take unknown calls and they hung up with no message.

My husband just got a call from this number.  The woman claimed to be collecting donations for St Jude's Hospital.  It showed up on our caller ID as "California"

As we have never received a phone call from St Jude's and we always make our donations to their address in Memphis, TN.  We requested they send us the usual information by mail.

Clearly a scam.

I just received a call, I live in central NJ. There was no response...sounds like the same MO as others posting here.

Called 10:30AM CST 8/25/12.  Caller ID said CALIFORNIA.  I answered, they hung up.

I will pick up these calls and put them on speaker phone.  I'm not careful to be quiet, and when it's a live person, I've even heard them say "I know you're there, I can hear you"...I kind of enjoy it!

no, I'm in Georgia and am now receiving these calls. I don't answer. And they have my cell number.

rec'd call  today @ 10 am.,  I decided not to answer. I called them back several hrs. Later. I got an answering machine stating they are from a fundraising org. And if I wanted a call back or to have my number off their list. Of course I did the latter. I am in Al.

Got a call from that number at 1:40 p.m. today, 7/24/12. I'm in upstate N.Y. I took my answering machine off line a long time ago, and few bother with me more than once or twice. I can tell legitimate calls by my caller ID. If I am really annoyed with them, I make sure there is no background noise near me and I just pick up and don't say anything. I hold as long as I can until they have to disconnect. Two can play that.

This was a recorded message for a group supporting a referendum in an upcoming election.

Keep getting calls from here. It's MDS Telecommunications, a continuous dial telemarketing "charity" that is exempt from the National Do Not Call list.

Meant to say, too, that we're in Omaha, NE, so it doesn't look like a neighborhood set up for any nefarious purposes as others have posited.

Received the call from whomever at that number and they asked for my wife.  You always know it's going to be "one of THOSE calls" when you say "Hello" and no one answers for 5-7 seconds.  Reading PeeWee's entry above, I'm guessing they were calling for the one registered voter in the house in that political party.  Legitimate party fundraisers can/could call from any area code, I guess, but my Scam-O-Meter still gets a hit when unknown callers from any location target our number.

I got a call from 323-331-9509.  I hardly ever pick up when I don't recogize the number, but I decided to answer.

It was a live voice - asking for a donation to one of the national political parties.  Coincidentally, I had just sent two donations to that particular party - one for their national congressional comittee and one for their national senate committee.  I told him I had just donated and the checks probably hadn't had time to get there (true).  

A short time later, I decided to look-up the number and saw that the call was from Los Angeles.  The 331 exchange is managed by MCI WORLDCOM COMMUNICATIONS.  The phone number for a national office of either political party would have had a 202 area code (Washington DC).  

I called back and got a recording (same voice).  There was an option for a call back.  I requested a call back, but did not get one..

If you want to make a donation, tell them you will call back then go to the internet and get the address and phone number of the party you want to donate to.

I had just read about one political party calling for donations using the name of the other political party during an election year. Maybe it worked so well they're trying it again...
