The FBI is investigating this because their is a front man living here in America (who is from India) - The money initially goes to him in his American account and then he feeds the money to his "operators" who are located in India.

ABC News link: http://gma.yahoo.com/phantom-debt-collectors- ... topstories.html

Report them to the FBI because it's still under investigation and there has been lawsuits filed against the indian guy who is living here in America.

To file with the FBI: https://tips.fbi.gov/

To file with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/

They're still working on this case, but since the front man lives here in America and ABC went to his house and all the money initially goes to his account, this might be just the loophole that the FBI will need to get these folks stopped

We keep getting a call from this number stating they are representing someone from the Attorney General's office in CA for a matter we need to call ASAP. They threaten to serve us with some sort of summons from a debt that they would not tell us who they were collecting for, and when I mentioned they are to give us the necessary information via the Fair Credit Reporting Act, they couldn't get off the phone quick enough. We thought that was the end of it, yet they called AGAIN today. They didnt leave a voice mail but when I called back, got a VM recording stating they were representing someone in the CA Attorney General office. The message sounded very robotic.

I plan on filing a complaint with the FTC as stated in some previous posts.

After reading all of you guys emails i feel a little better that I am not the only one who are recieving these calls. I will need to go by the bank, call credit report and change my cell number. I only wish i could change my work number, but can't. Thanks guys, because i was worrying myself to death over this. They need to be stopped.

Your money is federally insured against theft or fraud. You should file papers with your bank to get your money back. You could not have authorized these transactions. Make your bank prove that you did.

I called the telephone company that issued the phone to these people. I talked to the security department, and let them know how the phone was being used to steal money from people. They assured me they would investigate. Meanwhile, I changed all my banking information, tagged my social security number, and called the credit reporting agencies. The calls have completely stopped, and I pray they don't start back up.  Thank you for your advice and concern. Like you, I feel bad for all the people who fell for this scam. I hope that this helps someone who is being harrassed by these thugs.  Everyone call the phone company that issued the phone!!!  They need to know!!!

Affirming what others have stated--it's a scam.  They're hoping to scare people into confirming information they've gotten by hacking so they can withdraw money from your credit card or bank.

If you get any more of these calls, or if they attempt to draw money from your account, here's what you do:

1)  If you have an answering machine, or if they call your cell, let it go to voice mail.  Keep the recordings.  You'll need them.

2)  Write a letter to the FTC, cc your state's Attorney General, and let them know you have recordings of all the times these people have contacted you.  This will be very helpful.

3)  If they try drawing money out of your account (usually through something called a skip trace), go to the account manager, explain the situation, let them listen to the messages (if you have a cell phone), and fill out an unauthorized transaction form.  In most cases, the bank will refund the money taken.

4)  If these people get money from your account, talk to your bank manager about filing charges.

5)  Do a little investigating online and see if you can find the company's address.  File criminal fraud charges if you can--but talk to your bank manager or call the state AG's office to see if you can.

6)  Finally, if you do pick up the phone and these guys start talking to you?  Just say, firmly, over and over again, "I don't know what you're talking about.  Send me a letter stating your business with me, and I'll have my attorney be in touch."  They'll get apoplectic at this point.

Now I was at a point some years ago where I did try to apply for a payday loan.  Thankfully I went to friends as well, and they helped me out with a short-term loan instead.  Still, these people call me--partly because my financial situation has improved to the point where my credit is almost cleaned up.  This is how I've dealt with them in the past, and this is how I'll deal with them now.  Good luck to all of you!

I have been receiving these calls from this man with an accent I can not understand, I am sure he is the one who had been calling me fro some time now saying he wanted to do all these sexual things with me and claiming to be my ex boyfriend, he was eextreemly vulgar in what he wanted to do with me. His number had changed several times as he called daily until I called the police, now he is calling me from this # 323-570-4065 and claiming to be an officer, very, very hard to understand exactly what he is saying but it is the same man, I said I needed to talk to someone I could understand if it was of importance, he told me he was gonna kill me and hung up on me, I called back and he hung up, I called back againa nd again he hung up on me. I do not know who this man is or what he wants but I have had enough, can some one stop them????

A man identifying himself as an attorney said that I have 3 lawsuits filed against me to go to court the next day.  Wants money to stop the court appearance.  FAT CHANCE!!  He has a heavy Indian accent and highly irate when I told him to stop harassing me and he was not really an attorney but a scam.  It was extremely hard to understand what he was saying and he would not tell me the name of the law firm.   He kept calling me back each time I hung up.  I am going to have to change my number to get rid of these unwelcome and irritating calls.  I am terminally ill and don't have time for this nonsense.  I truly hope that these ingrates will get justice and I don't mean that in a good way.

This number called my job today. I found alot of loop holes so I realized after they couldn't answer any of my questions right out that they was a fraud. I then called the F.B.I. office in jackson because they said they would be at my job the next morning and talked to someone there and they cleared things up. After that and after they called me back and told me that charges was going to be pressed against me the next morning if I didn't I could meet them in court and I told me that if the fbi looked them up and everything was verified and okay then I would pay them. Then, they hung up. Everytime that I called it goes to a voicemail whose name is Karen. I stumbled upon this website after I googled his name a couple times. Thanks I really appreciate you giving a heads up for us people that he is still trying this scam on.

Just got a vm from guy with Indian accent. He asked for a Jason who we don't even know.  Also threatening lawsuit, etc.  I called the # back and blocked the call and muted the phone.  The guy got pissed and called me a dumbass!   We've been getting calls from many companies lately asking for a Jason. Appears this Jason guy filled out an application online and for health or auto insurance and gave his social. This company must have got our phone number that way!!!

Reporting them isn't going to do any good as they are an illegal operation (fly-by-night) and are very hard to track down let alone to prosecute them If you want to persue you'll have to start recording the calls as evidence  times, dates and number of calls and the numbers they call from.  Chances are they aren't even in this country and that makes it even harder to track

They call me and say I have a loan. I never get loan because when I apply they said that they can't approve me for a pay day loan because I don't have direct deposit from my employer. Now two weeks later, I get a call from 323-570-4065 saying that I need to pay back a loan they gave me. I told them that pay day loan denied my application because I dont' have direct deposit. If I never got a loan, that means there's no money to pay back if I never got a loan that means I don't owe them any debt. They tell me if I don't pay $300 that they will file legal charges against me and the police will come knock on my door tomorrow. Well, first off, it's the weekend and if they file legal charges against me on Monday, the police are not going to come here on the same day a lawsuit is filed. Also, the legal process in the town I live in, the person who will serve me is a process server, not the police. This is such a total scam, they're verbally pretending as if the police will come to get me as a way to threaten me into paying a bogus loan I never got. What a scam.
