caller hung up when I answered.

Calls me, too.  Did some research and this is what I found:

Got this call for the second time today. Caller ID shows "Private Caller", but displays number. Lady asked for my wife by name each time. When I offer to give her an alternate number for my wife, she declines, says she'll call back "at a more convenient time" and hangs up. Next time I'll try to remember to ask who's calling and what the purpose of the call is.

It is strange if it is the Red Cross in OH, since we live in TX.

Someone was actually on the line this a.m. She identified herself as Vicy Harris from the American Red Cross. I gave her my spill about not doing telephone solicitations and hung up. Shows on my caller IDs as "Blocked Name" and "Private Name".

I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize, but I'm not keen on calling the number.  I have a real concern that I'll be charged for more than the long distance call.  How is it that these companies call when we're on the Do-Not-Call list?

Very frustrating.

I don't answer the calls since I do not recognize the numbers or the caller ID if any, but these calls are annoying and seemingly a way for whom ever to skirt the law and common decency.  Just to have the phone ringing several times a day till the answering machine picks up is very annoying.

I also get 3-4 calls a day from:

201-210-3618
724-209-6600, Identified as Allied Interstate
and there have been others that call with frequency and leave no message.  Except on that wanted a call back asap at an 866 area code.

Every morning, answer just to get hung on. If this is in fact the red cross I am done donating forever.

caller hangs up....caller ID  says "Private" or Blocked ID

It is the Red Cross looking for blood donations.  If you call the number back, you will get a recording and one of the options is to be removed from their call list.

Sick of this!!!  They must have called 10 times over the last few days...Today, I answered --  only to get hung up on...
Does anyone know if I can block them or if they'll stop calling now that I've answered?

This number keeps calling me and hanging up...it's getting very annoying.

I received this call several times, it shows "Private Number" on my caller ID. Woman says "hello" and then hangs up. Makes me wonder if they are verifying real phone numbers for some marketing firm.

I received a call from the same number on 2/14/08. After listening to the greeting on our phone machine, the caller (a woman) said, "Hello? Hello?"

I too have starting receiving calls from this number over the past week. Whenever I answer, the caller hangs up. Each time I review the callerID, it always says BLOCKED NAME for this number. When I conduct a whitepages,com reverse phone search, it appears as TYPE: landline, Provider: Ameritech, Location: North Lima Ohio, County: Mahoning

An elderly friend of mine was experiencing the same thing.....phone rings every morning around 9:15 - 9:30am, no answer when she or the answering machine pick up, or dead silence.    

HINT:  If you wish to have a phone number removed from the list, you can do what I did....it's worth the one minute long distance phone call.  Call the number, when prompted, press one to be removed from the call list, enter the number you wish to be removed, number you entered will be repeated back to you, press one to verify.  Recording will tell you it takes up to 30 days to be removed.

I did this for my elderly friend.  As mentioned, it is worth the one minute long distance phone call to save my friend the aggrivation.

i am so tired of getting calls from this 'PRIVATE NUMBER!!!!' whats sooooo private about it

I called back this number after ignoring it on my caller ID for several days. It's the American Red Cross---you can opt to have your number removed from their call bank by chosing that option on the phone tree. I suspect it's because I just gave blood last week but who knows.....

this number continues to call every day and do not leave a message.  I have not been at home when they call during business hours

I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize either. I have taken the advice about calling to remove my number from their list after being called BEFORE 9am. I do not understand why the red cross would block their name from the caller ID system. It seems a bit suspicious to me.

Hang up when I answer

It is from American red cross relief fund.

It is the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. If you want to be removed from the call list all you do is push #1 and it will take you off their call list.

It is Oct 2, 2008.  I too get called by this number.  I tried calling back as suggested above.  A man answers.  I asked if this was the Red Cross.  He answered, very abrupt, saying "we haven't been Red Cross for a 1000 years".  I told him I was getting calls from this number.

He hung up on me.  So, be a little feisty, I called back, and hung up.  Satisfaction:)

We.re in NY and this number keeps calling us also. I figured it was a robo call. It waits for my our answering machine message and then another few seconds, but it always hangs up without leaving a message.

No one spoke, they hung up as I answered.

Just got a call from this number. Thinking it was another political call I didn't answer.

Came up as "Private Caller" I called the number back and pushed #1 to be removed then it asked for the 10 digit number to be removed. Just didn't feel right about actually giving them my number. Hung up. Something is all wrong about this.

They call every other day, at all hours... morning, noon, night.  They need to be fined!

I have had consistent calls from this number, represented as "Private Number," and have had the usual hangups, dead silence, etc. I answered this morning and the stumbling representative had my name, and after I pressed as to whom she was represting, she said it was the Red Cross. I told her to take my name off the list, immediately.  

I then called the Red Cross to report the inefficiency of the obviously outsourced calls (i.e., telemarketers)and the 'real' Red Cross said they would check into it after I mentioned all of the online complaints.
