I received same email and text messages from the phone number from an ad that I put on CL than Jan. Wanted to rent a room, would send money order should receive it in a couple of days for the room and her car. They want me to help them paying her partial payment for her car.

My daughter told me that we had to watch out for scammers because she knew of scams before. My daughter texted her back today from my phone and told her that we received the same exact letter from two other people.

Its an overpayment scam. The scammer agrees to buy your item sight unseen for your full asking price. He sends you a cashier's check for the full amount plus extra for you to give to a shipper he has selected.
You deposit the check, then wire money to the shipper. The wired money clears instantly. The buyer's cashier's check is a well-made forgery. It takes several weeks to bounce. Your bank makes you pay them the whole value of the fake cashier's check plus a bounced check fee. The scammer and his friend, the shipping firm split the shipping fee.
In another variation the scammer pays by Paypal, sending you a well-done fake message that looks like its from PayPal telling you that the scammer's money is in your account. Then you owe the whole amount plus a bounced check fee to Paypal.
The scammer communicates only by text or email because he speaks with a pronounced accent from India, Pakistan, Kenya, Nigeria, or some other foreign country. He does not want you to know that.
Don't sell to this scammer. Insist on being paid in cash when the merchandise is picked up.
