This number is definitely a scam.  Called to tell me about a suspicious charge on my Chase Card ending in a certain 4 numbers.  Well I don't have a Chase card and none of my other credit cards end with those numbers.  They are just trying to get your information.

I also received this call and called Chase immediately (using the Chase number on the back of my card). They confirmed they did NOT call me and there was no 'pending access check' written on my account. PHISHING scam at work.

Called Chase Bank directly and they verified that this is in fact a SCAM phone number in no way connected to their fraud department.  Do not give out any information.

Just received a call from this number and could only hear my own voice echoing back in the phone.  What I don't get is how I ended up on their list in the first place.  Is Chase not protecting their customers' information?

got a voice mail from  402-220-4013 asking me to call 1-800-766-4908 to confirm a check of $1000 written yesterday. I call 1-800-766-4908 the Indian-like accent on the other line ask me my last 4 of social, then my name then my DOB ..hey what! Bank usually doesn't ask for DOB. So I called the number on the back of my card. The bank agent, after call fraud department to verify, said the fraud department didn't call me about the check. She said this number probably a fraudulent number. Someone on this site who said 1-800-766-4908 is a legitimate number perhaps belongs to the same gang of crooks.

I believe have figured this out because i DO have a chase card and I did get this call.  I didn't have my card in front of me, so since I have a Chase card, I assumed the call was legit (as I steadily repeated a mantra of the last four digits they gave while I dug for my card).  So I click 2 to confirm the charge is not correct and am waiting for an operator ... and waiting ... and waiting ... so I hung up.  I immediately google the number, sign on to my online Chase account and peruse my "pending activity".  When I finally get the card, I call the 800 number on the back of the card.  While waiting for electric girl to spill all my balance information out, I'm thinking my last four digits are not the same as what they gave.  Suddenly, my phone, which gets little to no action usually, is on fire ... someone is beeping in.  "People Support" at 213-225-8842.  They ask for 'Lisa'.  Well, this is not the first time ol Lisa has gotten a call here.  Apparently, I am the proud owner of a phone number that was proudly written on many credit applications for ol Lisa.  At any rate, it occurs to me ... they've been chasing ol Lisa down for quite some time.  I never answer that phone.  I bet Chase uses the fraud alert as a way to get slackers to verify who and where they are, so that they can find them for debt recovery.  That's my take.

Not true, this is Chase calling to confirm a transaction that may be a little different from the usual transactions to that persons account.  Totally on the up & up.

I received a call from 402.220.4013 (number on my caller id) and they left a message stating that they were from the Fraud Department at Chase Bank.  They stated to call this 800 number back and to use a reference code that was given. I had recently written one of those convenience checks and they wanted to verify that I had.  Being suspicious about it, I looked up the number and there were mixed opinions about it (some stating scam & others stating legit).  Then I looked up this 800 number (the call back number given on the message) and I got mixed reviews as well.  I just decided to call the customer service number on the back of the card (different number) to get more information.  The gentleman I spoke to stated that I had been called regarding the activity and it was legit.  I did not ask the man to verify the two numbers (the 402 number or the 800 call back number).  I was able to provide security information and questions to the man and he was able to handle the issue for me.  He then stated there was no need to call this 800 number.

This particular call for me was a legit call from Chase Bank.

yes, it's a scam.  If you have a chase account, look on the back of your card and call that number.
They have some scammers posting on sites like this saying the call is real.  They'll say call that number or call the number on the card.

They're playing it by odds that some people will just call based on the caller id or the voicemail.  The scammer will write that because it add some ligetimacy and they know some will just call whatever the voicemail send.

Either way, this is a fraud campain to scam people

It appears that this number is used by BOTH Chase Fraud department and the scammers trying to get personal information from you. I got a legitimate call from Chase.

Part of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions.  Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.  There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

This is a valid Chase call checking on a possible fraud charge or transactions to your account. Sorry to see the previous post that says it "weasled personal info out of my mother." This call does not ask for any other information other than to confirm that a transaction is valid. It's Chase's way of protecting your account and frankly I appreciate it.
