The practice in my home is not to answer any calls where the number that appears on the caller ID is not on our authorized caller list.  We just let the answering machine take it.  100% of the time at that time the caller simply hangs ups.  Today someone called from this number and my husband screwed up and answered it.  He hung up as soon as he heard someone say "google business search".  The real shame in this world is when a business closes their doors for good, they can't EVER remove the fact from the internet that there was ever such a business.  Idiots attempt to continually sell their business to you.  Even though our business has been legally closed and we have retired for more than 2 years we still get crap in the mail and phone calls trying to sell us stuff.  My husband just hung up on the caller.  I have successfully blocked their number from being able to get through ever again.  Why can't businesses check their information before they waste their time and bother innocent people?  I guarantee you these fools will try calling us at least one more time but will be greeted by a msg. telling them that the party at this number is not accepting any further calls from them!  We had one caller keep calling and getting that message every 4 days for 2 months, (weekends included).  That caller number is tied to a Credit Card spam group that calls people and tries to force them into believing the caller is a collection company trying to collect a bad credit card debt and tries to get the caller to give them their bank account numbers and social security numbers.  We don't have credit card debts so they would never be able to convince us of that and we would never give our information to anyone over the phone or internet. It is a shame that they are successful with getting people to fall for their scam though.  If they were not able to get it from a lot of people they would not waste their time making the phone calls and staying ahead of the FEDS.  There are more than enough people that fall for the scam every few minutes of every day.
