it's probably a telemarketer call soliciting for various charities. i too contribute to doctors but it seems a shame they go the smarmy telemarketer route. it makes me think twice.

Doctors Without Borders left message regarding how quickly they respond to cholera outbreak in the Congo. I have contributed to this group annually for the past three years and receive countless snail mailings, but do not want to be solicited by phone. If they call again I will answer and request my number be removed from their database.

The caller ID said "Local Call" - yeah, I'm not going to fall for that, especially with a non-local area code. Then they left a recorded message that started in the middle of the message, but it referred to an 888 number which upon checking I see is the "Doctors Without Borders" phone number.
This is a great organization and I hate that they're trying to fool people with their "Local Call" BS.

It is from PETA. They call when they have an open discussion.

Left a 16-second recording saying "I hope we can count on you to join us in this discussion tomorrow. If you have any questions, contact our membership team at 757-213-8763." I checked that number as well, and it's a phone number in Virginia. I called 415-363-9736 and got a recording that said "We called you to participate in a call about current events...." (or something like that).

nothing but a click as if the phone was hung up..however the line was still open..so make sure you hang up your phone! I later went to use my phone & the line was still open, whom ever called on there phone left there phone off hook..it took awhile before I had a dial tone!
