This is a generic telephone number of Scotiabank to intimate Scotiabank credit card holders about potential fraudulent activity in their credit Cards. But i would strongly suggest calling them on their Toll free number and not on the 416 number or any 1800 number they leave. I got a call from this number 10 minutes back and i contacted their customer service, they were weary about a transaction i did on my credit card about 12 hours back (vendor is in Montreal), asked me if i authorized it and i said yes and its all good

Your call is typical of a "fraud dept" call- the calls are time sensitive.

This number called me. It was not a scam. It called to inform me that bank cards are being blocked and that I'd have to get my card replaced. I was already aware of this after not being able to pay with debt and had already been to the branch to replace the card.

Its legit number- its the fraud department calling about weird activity on your account...thank god they did mine was compromised. I called the number back and its a recording but if you call 1-800-813-6602 you can ask and that is their head office direct line.

This number is legit. I got the same message as Tony did and my card was indeed compromised. However, for the sake of safety, call the number on the back of your card instead of the supplied number in the message.

I got the message from 416-750-6018. I was asked to call back to Scotia Bank at 1-800-234-0257 ASAP regarding a compromised credit card. I checked the number and it is NOT the one of the numbers listed on the Scotia Bank web site!

Got call no message
none 2014-02-05 14:30:07 Unknown
it is scotia bank........funny, it's not suspicious activity when you make a deposit, just when you make a withdrawl. All for your safety of course.
ur not as rich as you think !

Seems to be legit.
I was on Scotia's online banking site and sent a cash e-transfer to my brother. About 5 minutes later I got a call from this number. They asked for me by name, and wanted to confirm that it was in fact me that had sent the e-transfer and not someone hacking my account.

It is a legit phone call from Scotia Bank. I just got the call and then phoned my branch in Winnipeg to verify. Yes, my credit card had been compromised. Somehow someone put a big charge on it while I had it in my purse with me at work. Must have been compromised in the credit card transaction online from 4 weeks ago!

LOL, if I had a dollar for every person who puts in a complaint to Head Office... NOTHING GETS DONE ABOUT THIS STUFF IN HEAD OFFICE.

I've had 2 calls from this number in the past week. I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. I phoned them back and the recorded message says that it's Scotiabank and that they had phoned me and are going to call me back. I don't have any accounts with BNS and never have and never will. Some of the posters have written that the caller asked for info about their Visa cards. This sounds like a scam.
I have a BMO Mastercard. A couple of years ago, I got an automated call from them saying my card had been compromised and the message stated the last 4 digits of my card. They said not to use the card online or at a store that did not have a chip machine. They also said they would send me a new card and they did.

Carol 2013-11-27 18:19:16 Unknown
It was Scotiabank wanting to verify some purchases I made with my company credit card. Called the number they left (1-800--813-6602) and spoke with a representative.

4167506018 just called me...I want to know who this is
Lisa 2013-09-26 18:21:20 Unknown
Definately a scam!!! September 25th 2013 I received a call from this number (416) 750-6018. Computer voice said in voicemail they are calling from scotiabank and to call them immediately to verify a transaction or something like that. So I called the number they left in their voicemail (1-800-290-2654) and it is very suspicious. They say that you've reached scotiabank but immediately they have to enter your credit card number. No other options to speak to a live person or aything - they just want your credit card number. Total scam.

It's actually legit from Scotiabank. Contacted me about a transaction I had made and they had details nobody else could have. Did not ask for any personal information.

Just received a call from this number from Scotiabank Security. I missed the call and they left a message requesting to verify activity on my credit card account. I called a 1-800 number they left on the message (I looked up the number, and it checked out), spent about a minute on hold, and was then asked about a series of suspicious transactions that turned out to be fraudulent. They closed the account, and sent me a new card.

Just got a call from this number. Someone tried to use the card for $600 in Mississaga, I live near Kingston. They said they're cancelling the card and sending me a new one. I called the number on the back of the card and they verified that the fraud attempt was legit so the number is legit Scotia.
Scotia Customer 2013-06-04 18:01:04 Unknown
Totally legit call and message! Was to let me know I used my card at a place that in past had copied cards! Just went to bank and got a new one!

I too just received a call from 416-750-6018 saying they were going to send me a package and that she was Ledia from Scotia and she had opened an account today - and I said no you didn't I would know if you opened an account and they mentioned names of people that are in management that they could of got from our website. I told her do not send me a package as I did not sign anything and I don't know what you are talking about.

I had a call from this number, not knowing what it was I searched here. Moments later I was in a 3 way call with my boyfriend who works outwest who had called scotiabank.. They were assisting him in making changes to our joint account. I have however, had spam calls looking to make change my insurance with scotiabank and also make other changes, but I never answer the phone to them.

Even, I got a call from Scotia Bank. My card has been blocked and they are sending me a new card.

I got a call from this number saying they were Scotiabnk and that my card had been compromised and thus they put a limit on the account. I thought it was a scam - they provided a 1800 number (234-0257) to call to have the card replaced. After looking at my online account with no apparent limits I called the number on the website to be safe and they confirmed that my account had a limit on it and that they would be sending a new card in the mail.
Very sketchy as neither of these numbers came up in a google search for scotiabank.

Suspicious, Card comprimised, wrong cardholder name, appears to be Phishing attempt.

I received an email at my work saying that a transaction had been returned to me . They ask you to click on a line .it takes you to the scotiabank page where you put in your number. DO NOT DO IT. I called the bank and reported it

I just got a call from this number, they claimed to be from Scotia Bank and I think her name was Amanda. Asked me if I made any purchases from these two stores and I said no for both and she said that they were suspecting fraud and told me they were going to freeze my accounts immediately and told me to cut up my cards. I was VERY suspicious so I was careful to not give ANY of my personal information. It was also really weird actually how she was all frantic and had the "we need to get this done ASAP" kinda tone. I kind of tried to get more info from her and she surprisingly was able to give me a lot of my personal info, including my full name, who my card was linked to, my branch, my address.... but I'm still very suspicious (hence why I'm on here lol). But I didn't feed her any info, I guess I'll wait a couple of days to see if I get a new card in the mail before I cut mine up. If not I'm visiting my branch.

you do have a legal recourse. simply ask them directly to remove you from their call list.
they must comply (probably have a month or so to do so however.)
