THEIR STOCK IS WAY DOWN SINCE THIS CAMPAIGN STARTED. FAR WORSE THAN THE DROPS ON WALL STREET. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
Reverse boycott. Together we are destroying their cost/benefit ratio by consuming their service. Their legal model is less vulnerable than their business model. Individual efforts against their legal model have failed for years. This united effort against their business model is succeeding.
When a company can repeatedly call with the intent of getting money their customers can repeatedly answer or call back with the intent of not giving them any. They need people to pay with as little talk as possible. They don't want to talk with people who know they are never going to pay. Be all talk and no pay. Answer when convenient. Call back. Give no information. Verify nothing. Ask as many questions as you can. Answer none.
Don't ignore/block/report them. It doesn't work. These folks want you to ignore them for as long as you can stand to or until you give them something valuable like money or information. Ignoring them is being their good customer. Sending a cease and desist is giving information. It lets them know you are still alive and remain their good customer. Preparing to initiate unlikely individual legal battles is being their good customer.
Be their bad customer. Make them talk to you fruitlessly for as long as they can stand to or until they stop selecting you as their customer. These companies cannot spend seconds much less minutes on the phone with every person who will never send them a dime. But they don't know who that is. You do. That knowledge is power. Every second you can keep their staff on the phone will render their business less profitable giving them a reason to never call you again.
Calling will not reset your SOL. Making a partial payment will.
I like to ask general questions they should but usually won't answer, "May I have the name and address of your agent for service of process?" Calmly and slowly ask them to spell every word in the address. Read it back for verification. Control the pace. If they are rushing then politely ask them to slowly repeat. "Are you a corporation and if so in which state are you incorporated?" Repeat your questions when you don't get direct answers. When they won't answer a question ask, "Would you like to comply with the business and professions codes of your state?" That is usually the point when they hang up on me but if they say they want to comply then begin your questions again.
Repeat while you have the spare time. These folks have many victims and few operators. If everyone calls back but pays nothing the mass auto-dialer business model becomes unprofitable. Don't aide and comfort the enemy by ignoring them. Call! Have a nice long slow friendly chat! Make them hang up first.
Press 2 for Spanish.
For any business, customers who consume the most resources but don't pay (or otherwise add value) become the least desirable. Most businesses will stop (cease and desist) soliciting an undesirable customer. Those that don't stop remain knowingly vulnerable to the actions of their undesirable customers. Few companies can afford to let everyone take a piece of them whenever they want endlessly. For instance they must pay staff to answer everyone's telephone calls which can be placed at your convenience for the joy of it. Call and consume their operator time without paying or giving information. Be a bad customer. The worst customer. Inspire them to invoke their right to refuse you service by not soliciting you.
There are certainly enough victims to take down this company so ignoring/blocking seems downright Orwellian to me. Really? We're just going to passively submit and go with a block list or however we manage ignoring an endless stream of unwanted phone calls day after day? Hell no! Unite or remain conquered. Answer/return every call - become well practiced at keeping these folks on the phone - or count yourself not amongst the free.

These scumbags have called me trying to collect on a credit card that was reported stolen in a home burglary in 2002. I tried to talk to them, to get this handled, because I believe it is truly a mistake. I told them I would be more than happy to discuss it with them, once they show me proof that this account is mine. According to my Credit Report, the account in question, was closed in good standing, by the bank. Portfolio has been calling me with an account number that in no way, matches any of my records. They have told me that my account number for the card was recycled and I was assigned a new account number, that is why I don't have any record of this account, it is also why I have no proof that this account was taken care of. I was told that despite the fact that it may have been stolen, I am still morally obligated to take care of it. They have threatened and harassed me day and night. They call multiple times every day. I would really like to clear this up, instead of having it cycle back around. It makes me wonder if this is in fact a fraudulent card that the thieves opened in my name, and that is why it does not match my records. (I had a box of checks stolen too) I would think that people that want you to pay them, would be a little more cordial in helping to clear up on account, but they don't, they just want you money.

while i explained to them that the statue of limtations was my defense and my ex left me with these depts ( it seems that bad exes can be women too, mybe not as many yet still) they still wanted a much larger payment than the original dept. i told them that i had no money that could possibly cover that, but i would send them a drawing of a cat that i made and it'd value to me was the exact same amount they wanted. sadly they refused my offer and now i never answer when they call.

they don't show their name on caller ID! All mine shows is city, state and number. I always have to look it up - I've begun keeping track of phone numbers they use and which company - have filed two compliants with my attorney general's office.

Got a call from this number today in strongsville, ohio and see from these posts that it is Port Folio Recovery. I never answer the phone unless I know who is calling. They are always trying to call me using Out of Area, Unknown Name, Undeliverable numbers. So, I never answer the phone and I am the only one here. My vechicle was repossessed in 2007, and they sold it at auction for $2700, and they are still trying to collect $18,000!! I am now on Disability, so there is no way they can collect. The only debts that can be collected from my disability check is Child Support (but I am a woman with a 26 year old son), IRS, and student loans. So, there is no way Port Folio can ever collect from me. But let them try.

The whistle is a great idea if... you want to wait to see if someone "live" picks up the phone. The trouble is that these are auto dialers and sometimes they are programmed to see what time the phone is picked up. So their computers know the best time to call to get a hold of you. That is another reason why it is extremely important to NEVER answer their calls. Also sending them a certified letter asking for proof of debt and then disputing it and then a cease and desist letter for their calls. Once they get these letters they know they become liable in court as they've been sued successfully numerous time and for damages. I'm just waiting for someone to do a class action against them. Put them out of business for good!

these people specialize in collecting zombie debt.I can't wait for them to take me to court so I can tell the judge how old the debt they are trying to collect is. It was charged off in 1990 but they still keep trying. They call all my numbers twice a day and it doesn't bother me one bit.

Portfolio Recovery calls our landline several times a day, including on Saturdays and Sundays. They sometimes call before 8 am and after 10 pm. We do not have any unpaid debt or any written-off debt, as we always pay our bills and always pay on time. They may be calling about one of our adult sons who has not lived with us in 4 years. I thought they would stop calling if no one ever answered the phone, but they still call several times a day and have been doing it for months. I am planning on going to the store and buying a very good coaches whistle and everytime they call, I am going to pick up the receiver and blow the whistle into it as hard as I can. Maybe after a few of their employees have had their eardrums busted, they will stop harrasing us!

I have a problem with the concept that any of use "owes" these bottom-feeders anything. We did not ever receive goods or services from them, we never contracted with them in any way, we never agreed to have a business relationship with them. Then they jack up the amount of the debt we may originally have owed to the company we did do business with by qa factor of two or three, at the same time they 'bought' the so-called debt for somewhere between fifty cents and $3 per hundred dollars of the original debt. And then, yes, the statute of limitations is usually long past expired, so that they cannot legally pursue in court, unless they use fake documents signed by a dead woman (as PRA has in fact done). Their only expectation of getting any $$$$$s out of their victims is by pure bullying and intimidation -- it is an extortion scam, made more or less legal by The Best Congress Money Can Buy.

I did see in a local paper recently that they sued a non-payment debt for over $1000 a couple of weeks ago here in North Carolina. We have a policy that if we do not recognize the number then we do not answer the phone; if it is important a message is always left. No message, a junk call.
