We changed our internet provider after 10 years, who was also our phone company. The number we were given is brand new to us, we did not leave a call forward, and have not handed out the number to ANYONE. I noticed these people started calling on the first day. They never leave a message. My 13 year old son answered the other day (we have had the phone for 2 weeks now) they asked for me by my maiden name, which I have not gone by for almost 11 years. The debt they are after was accrued 13 years ago when I was very young. They are way past the SOL in my state. What I don't understand is how they find people that quickly. It's actually scary, considering the number is brand new and has been given to no one, not to mention unlisted.

These imbeciles have started calling me again. I don't answer so I don't know what old paid-off account they have scrounged from the bottom of the dung pile where they exist.
Last time I used the power of the word. I sent letters to: PRAA themselves, as well as the Better Business Bureau of their state and my state, the Attorney Generals of their state and my state, the District Attorneys of their county and my county, the CFO of their city's office of financial services, the government worker of their city responsible for approving business applications to run a business out of their city, the company that owns the building they are in (their landlord), their county public information officer, the Governors of their state and my state, and the local mayor of their city, and enclosed copies of all to the Federal Trade Commission with my complaint regarding their business. Let them know what kind of dirtball company is operating in their city, county, and state and how you feel about that.
In short, research THEM on the internet as they have researched you. Then start calling them, as suggested above by others, and writing them letters until they stop harassing you! It worked for me 5 years ago. Best of luck to you.

Prank Call
This is a scam debt collector.

I am 14 years old and have never had a debt in my life (no credit either).   I don't understand what these guys want, they keep harrassing me.  I told them I am a minor and gave them my SS # as evidence.  They said they don't care and kept calling me multiple times a day even at school time and late at night.

I contacted my local Children Ondbusperson (In puerto rico: Procurador del menor).  And gave them all the information.  The calls stopped not long after this.

In sumarry: Scam site, DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION.

OMG, Get real people, I just received a call at 12:30 AM on 12-10-2011!  Unbeliveable!  They are going to fry when I am done with them!~  Found a Great Attorney locally that will handle things for me!  My debts have mostly been written off long ago, I am older 60+ and Disabled!  Shame on Portfolio Recover and their illegal attempts to collect a debt and the deceitful way they call them selves Sun Rocket!  I have you now and its going to cost you big time!  No more phone calles, especially before 8:00Am or after 9:00PM.  Oh, don't try to tell me you use an automatic dialer either  I have a list of who has called ,when they have called, the date & time listed on the calls and all the various numbers you use to attempt to disguize yourselves!  They are all on my Called ID and now, my attorney also has them! Oh, did you know that if the debt is timed out, its called Zombie Credit?  So you just bought a hand full of nothing!  Its also against the law not to tell us who you are and why you calling, you need to use a mini Miranda, dummies!  You know the one that goes This is an appempt to collect a debt? Its also against the law to attempt to decieve a debtor by calling your selves a different name, or by harrasing with more than 3 calls a week?

Does anyone have an address or preferably fax number for Portfolio Recovery Service at this phone number location?  Long story, but they are harrassing my daughter for a bill that she does not owe.  I have looked everywhere on line and can find no contact information for them in Baltimore, Md ~ which appears to be the location of this area code/prefix.  The only number we have is the one that showed up on her id:
443) 313~1382.  It must be the same company as the 443) 313~1380, just a different extension.

Thank you.  I appreciate any help you can give us.

For the past couple of weeks, I have received calls from both companies regarding a credit card from 1999.  This has to be illegal as the callers are very abusive and intrusive.  I am planning to report this illlegal activity to Better Business Bureau as it is quite aggravating and irritating to be constantly harassed by these folks on a debt so outdated.

unwanted calls are coming from the number 443 313 1381. I have asked them to quit calling this cell phone as it is a work phone and is interfering with business but they refuse and refuse to identify themselve, just want to ask personal information about the family. It comes up as sunrocket did but also may be portfolio recovery as calls come to the home for a former household member

THEIR STOCK IS WAY DOWN SINCE THIS CAMPAIGN STARTED. FAR WORSE THAN THE DROPS ON WALL STREET. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Reverse boycott. Together we are destroying their cost/benefit ratio by consuming their service. Their legal model is less vulnerable than their business model. Individual efforts against their legal model have failed for years. This united effort against their business model is succeeding.

When a company can repeatedly call with the intent of getting money their customers can repeatedly answer or call back with the intent of not giving them any. They need people to pay with as little talk as possible. They don't want to talk with people who know they are never going to pay. Be all talk and no pay. Answer when convenient. Call back. Give no information. Verify nothing. Ask as many questions as you can. Answer none.

Don't ignore/block/report them. It doesn't work. These folks want you to ignore them for as long as you can stand to or until you give them something valuable like money or information. Ignoring them is being their good customer. Sending a cease and desist is giving information. It lets them know you are still alive and remain their good customer. Preparing to initiate unlikely individual legal battles is being their good customer.

Be their bad customer. Make them talk to you fruitlessly for as long as they can stand to or until they stop selecting you as their customer. These companies cannot spend seconds much less minutes on the phone with every person who will never send them a dime. But they don't know who that is. You do. That knowledge is power. Every second you can keep their staff on the phone will render their business less profitable giving them a reason to never call you again.

Calling will not reset your SOL. Making a partial payment will.

I like to ask general questions they should but usually won't answer, "May I have the name and address of your agent for service of process?" Calmly and slowly ask them to spell every word in the address. Read it back for verification. Control the pace. If they are rushing then politely ask them to slowly repeat. "Are you a corporation and if so in which state are you incorporated?" Repeat your questions when you don't get direct answers. When they won't answer a question ask, "Would you like to comply with the business and professions codes of your state?" That is usually the point when they hang up on me but if they say they want to comply then begin your questions again.

Repeat while you have the spare time. These folks have many victims and few operators. If everyone calls back but pays nothing the mass auto-dialer business model becomes unprofitable. Don't aide and comfort the enemy by ignoring them. Call! Have a nice long slow friendly chat! Make them hang up first.

Press 2 for Spanish.

For any business, customers who consume the most resources but don't pay (or otherwise add value) become the least desirable. Most businesses will stop (cease and desist) soliciting an undesirable customer. Those that don't stop remain knowingly vulnerable to the actions of their undesirable customers. Few companies can afford to let everyone take a piece of them whenever they want endlessly. For instance they must pay staff to answer everyone's telephone calls which can be placed at your convenience for the joy of it. Call and consume their operator time without paying or giving information. Be a bad customer. The worst customer. Inspire them to invoke their right to refuse you service by not soliciting you.

There are certainly enough victims to take down this company so ignoring/blocking seems downright Orwellian to me. Really? We're just going to passively submit and go with a block list or however we manage ignoring an endless stream of unwanted phone calls day after day? Hell no! Unite or remain conquered. Answer/return every call - become well practiced at keeping these folks on the phone - or count yourself not amongst the free.

"Is it legal for a collection company to come to your home?? i had a note left on my bk door ripped out of a liitle memo book asking me to call Dawn at a number and extension....for LTD financial...I find that to be quite scarey actually....if I put a Private Property sign out from...can they legally cross it??"

More likely they called your neighbor and made up some story about it being important for them to reach you, and the neighbor, thinking they were being helpful, left the note.  Bottom line, they are trying to embarrass you into paying the debt.

This happened to my sister.  They actually called one of her neighbors saying they were trying to reach her daughter (my niece), and the daughter doesn't even live with them any more (and hasn't for several years.

This company calls multiple times a day to collect a debt that is NOT ours. They've been told this, but refuse to stop calling & refuse to send any sort of letter about the debt. They sure want our personal info though (SSN, additional phone numbers, date of birth). These people are incredibly rude, threatening, and unprofessional. Please report your calls to the FTC!
