Hey Condescending Fruitcase,
This is a false number. The chances of it being a legitimate solicitation for funding are about as much as you getting in double digits on your SAT.
Thank you for your smug dismissal of the obvious and your misleading entry in the discussion.
Many false calls utilize stolen lists of folks who have previously contributed to charities such as the police, Red Cross or local firehouses. This is definitely one of those cases. It doesn't matter what the ID is or what the code actually is (although that can help a receiver make a snap judgement in this case). The real clue is in the technique of solicitation.
You had no business telling someone to "...get a clue first." If you have something constructive to say tell someone with a note of respect and a bit of social grace. If you had, I would never have had to type this message you uneducated jackalope.

>>> If they want money, they should call the moron who sits in the White House and ask him. <<<
Another case of Obama Derangement Syndrome. You are aware that the FCC, which you praise so highly, is part of the executive branch of the government, aren't you?
Of course you don't. Forgive me for even asking.

I am sick and tired of all of these people calling for money or placing calls because they have nothing better to do. If they want money, they should call the moron who sits in the White House and ask him. If they have nothing better to do, I will help them. First their number will be reported to the BBB and then it will be reported to the FCC. The FCC has been very helpful in taking care of these unwanted pain the neck people. One caller said it was the County Police and one said a fire truck would pick up the money?? I would think it would behoove either place to check out who this person is since he/she is impersonating county employees. This number too shall go on my call block.

Actually they do. I've had them do it before, when I was employed more gainfully and had money to donate.

This person has called me 7 times. I called back and said I didn't know who they were and please leave a message. They did not answer. Since then I've gotten 3 more calls and no messages. They call at all times of the day. Morning, mid-day, evening and weekends. If possible, block this number. It is BS and you are leaving yourself open for so type of scam. BEWARE. This is bad news.

Received a call from this number on October 10 at 7:45 PM. Caller started the conversation calling me by my correct first name and indicating that he was from Baltimore County Fire Department. I merely told him I don't respond to telephone solicitations. Even if it is legitimate, so what? To give out sensitive information over the phone is insane unless you are absolutely sure of the caller.

I too just received a call from this number.. said Columbia, when I answered he/she said nothing. Complete silence... they have called my home the last 4 days at different times and I did not answer. Finally answered to tell them to quit calling... Called them back and like other commenters have said professional voicemail ...left Him a message to not call me again with my phone number...
as for Paranoid... better to give locally than to these jokers.. they keep a huge percentage of the money they collect and your lucky if the charity sees much of it at all...

Hey Paranoid Schizoprenic,
The county does have an exchange. 887 is used by a lot of county offices, no matter where the office is actually located.
It may be a legitimate donation call. But these organizations contract out the solicitations to companies that are not part of the county structure. So the phone number might be from Columbia, or elsewhere, and won't have an 887 county office exhange. They just have the caller ID set to say "Baltimore County" to make it seem like the call is coming from an "official" county office.
So before you start telling someone they are wrong, I suggest you get a clue first.

The exchange for the county? The county doesn't have an exchange, the individual towns do. Nowadays though your exchange isn't what it used to be Phone companys recycle the numbers all the time. I live in catonsville and just got a number from Columbia, MD.
Anyway, I got a call and it's the Baltimore County Fire Fighters Association. They're mailing me the donation envelope. He wasn't rude and didn't ask me for anything except verification of my mailing address. You people need to settle down a little here.
| Bill 2013-01-11 16:46:47 Unknown |
You are correct, the exchange for Baltimore County is 887
