I called CapCOG and confirmed it was an automated message from them. It was announcing a change in their system and a requirement to reregister if you want to continue receiving emergency notifications. I suggested they add "This is a message from CapCOG" to their notifications.

I never signed up for the CAPCOG system, have had this phone number for at least seven years, not once receiving a call from them in all that time, yet I am getting multiple calls today from them. Something strange is going on. They tapped into a new database somehow and are reaching people that never opted into this service.

M was correct. I listened to the voicemail and it was to remind me to reregister at capcog if I want to keep getting
the emergency messages. If you don't want it then don't register.

I never registered my phone and I have had this # for over 11 years...so how do they have my number.

It's a message from the Capital Area Council of Governments - Regional Notification System that if you want to continue receiving emergency notifications, you will need to re-register at wireless.capcog.org.

Received two calls from 512-386-7242 on the two telephone lines on Sat, Dec 8th after 12am. Advising an emergency situation in our neighborhood. Suspect it was a scam, just hung up, then searched on line to confirm this.

Received this call at 5:30 am. Scared the heck out of us. Caller ID said emergency, but no one was there. Quite aggravating.

I called 311 after receiving calls with Caller ID labeled "Emergency" to almost all of our school phone lines. It was a recorded message about a missing elderly person. The311 operator said ?silver alerts? are missing elderly people. Amber is for children. She spoke with APD non-emergency and they said it was a Missing Person call and they notify all land lines in the local area. We can?t opt-out.

I slept through this call at 8:03 AM. I just noticed a "missed call" on my phone display. They didn't even leave a message.

The calls from this number are emergency public announcements. They can be anything from a wildfire in the area to utility emergencies to missing persons. Anyone with a registered phone number (landline or cell) can receive these calls as a means of emergency broadcast. I haven't found a way to actually contact a live person, so it doesn't look like you can "opt out" of these.

I received a call right at 7:00 a.m. today. The call woke my family up!!! I think the Federal Trade Commission doe not allow calls before 7:00a.m. and after 9:00p.m. Even though it was a lawful time, it was ANNOYING!!! How do I opt out? Someone post a number please.

I got a call this evening saying that an elderly man was missing in my area. It gave a description of him. The call was supposedly from the Williamson County emergency services. As someone else said, it seems like an Amber Alert.type call. It appears to be legitimate, but who really knows!

It's a central Texas reverse 911 number. It is used to provide helpful and emergency information to the residents of a certain area.

Received a call from this number last night. It was a message advising area residents that an elderly man was missing and gave a description of him and his clothing. Advised that if you saw the individual to contact 911 or the Travis County Sheriffs department.
I think it's a legitimate number...similar to an Amber Alert system. They do a reverse call to selected areas.

Got a call this afternoon. It was a recorded message, stated it was an emergency and to not hang up. I hung up. It couldn't have been all that important if I had to wait for the message.
