My mom received a call from a "nephew" in mexico. In fact she does have a good bunch of nephew down there but the guy played guessing games, and didn't want to give his name. My mom irritated told him she didn't like to guess so the guy hung up.(frustrated that my mom wasn't taking the bait)

We received a call from a spanish speaking male, he stated out like how are you. I didn't respond to him in spanish so he hung up.  The next day he called and asked for my husband by name.  He was beating around the bush about being a cousin from Mexico. My husband has not seen or heard from his cousin since they were children. My husband thought it could be his cousin, but the guy was like playing guessing games, they talked for awhile and he stated that he was in Nuevo Laredo and was going to come over for some material inHouston for his boss for construction. That on his way through he wanted to surprise my husband with a visit.  The call ended and he called later that evening saying he had to go back to Monterrey Mexico because they wouldn't let him pass into the U.S. and he was going to go to the consulate to get some other paperwork.

He called the next morning stating he was on his way over and was involved in a car accident in Mexico and the person he was in an accident with in wanted money.  He said that they got an estimate on the damage to the car and for the hospital bill for the other drivers daughter and that he needed three thousand dollars.  My husband told him that he didn't have that kind of money sitting around but could maybe send him a couple hundred.  So he asked the 'cousin' where he was and the correct spelling of his name so he could send him the money.  The man was quick to say 'no don't send me the money, send it directly to the man I was in the accident with'. He wanted him to send it to a comletely other state in Mexico.  Well it didn't take to long after that to know that this was a scam. My husband called his sister in Mexico so she could find out if this cousin was in fact at the border trying to come in the U.S. and she called him back to say no that the cousin was in fact still at home.

The man called back maybe 1 hours later to get the number for the western union transaction.  That is when my husband told him he didn;t send any money and that the man better get himself right before God.  The man started saying some really ugly things and said he would be making his way to 'our' town soon.  My husband hung up on him.

We got a phone call from someone this morning saying that he was our nephew from Mexico.  He knew my wife's first name.  She asked which nephew.  He said "What you don"t remember your family in Mexico?".  My wife told him that it was too early for guessing games and told him to call back later and then hung up.

This conversation was completely in Spanish even though, except for my son-in-law, my wife's extended family all speak fluent English and would have begun any phone conversation in English out of respect to me.

We believe that this is a phone scam attempting to get money.
