Received a call from 570-831-1296
Very odd conversation saying she was from a social security office, and was questioning about a deferred ROTH IRA she couldn't give a straight answer and was going around questions to pull information from me. Very odd, I told her it sounded like a scam and could not answer her questions based on her info and she needed to contact our payroll office directly. BEWARE of these scams!!!

Just got a call from this number a few minutes ago. Didn't answer but they left a voicemail.
The number IS Social Security. They stated they were calling regarding an application that was submitted for the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan which I did in fact submit last week via mail to Social Security.
I know it's hard to read through all these messages to try and determine if the call is really from Social Security... I was skeptic reading through them myself but after listening to my voicemail, it did become clear that this was a legitimate call.
If you're still unsure, go to the Social Security page online and call the number on their site. You should be able to talk to someone in regards to the purpose of their call.

The data center absolutely calls people to clear up errors on forms or to follow up on applications. They work from 7amEST to 1am EST. They can call customers as late as 9:00 in their own time zone. They will normally make 3 attempts to contact a person. If they are unable to reach them, they will send a letter or forward a report a local social security office. They can also do this if you don't want to give them your identifying information when they call you. It will significantly delay processing of your issue, but the option is available if you don't want to give them your SSN and other information needed to verify that they have reached the correct person.
As a reply to the person who earlier said it must be a scam because the National 800# operator couldn't confirm they had been called, I work on the National 800#. We can't always tell if someone from an internal department is trying to reach you. If you have a name and/or phone number, we can verify if they work for SSA, but that's about it.
It's good to be cautious about giving out your information, but you can generally tell if we are legit. You know if you've filed any applications or forms with us. If we say we are calling about (whatever), and you did start to conduct that type of business with us, or send in that kind of form, there's a good chance we are trying to help you. If you still don't feel comfortable, ask the caller to send you a letter instead.
FYI - the number that started this is legitimate. Debby is a friend of mine. She's worked for Social Security for 15years.

We absolutely DO ask for your identifying information, including your SSN if we are contacting you about a Social Security matter that requires us to access your records. You always have the right to refuse to give it. You will then be told to visit your nearest office in person for further assistance.

Received a call about 9:30 am saying my husband had filed out a form for medicare Rx assistance asking for my SS #. If it was the SS office, they have my # so I asked how I could know they actually were from SS. Said she could give me a # & have me call her or she could send form in mail. I asked for mailed form. We'll see what happens.

I also just received a call from 570-831-1296, she claimed I didn't finish filling out a form for health care coverage in regards to my Medicare. Her first question was "How much money do you have in your bank account, checking and savings". I asked her to send me something in the mail. We'll see if I get anything or not.

government entities close at 5 PM SHARP. any calls after that is automatically fake. People asking for your vote during election year do not count as gov entity, they're paid solicitors or volunteers.

This number is from the SSA. They were calling to confirm information on a form that was sent to them. They left a message with an 800 number to the social security office. They said it was ok if a call was not returned that they would mail out the questions they needed answered and for me to return my response.

Got a call from :US Government" at this number tonite.. I wasn't here, but it is on my Caller ID... They DID NOT leave a message. Surely, if it were important they would have said, please call back or something.. nothing!!! I recently had a death in the family, I am listed as next of kin, so..... my phone number is now public I suppose and they may be trying to get me into some illegal scam they may be running? I don't know, but I will call the local SSA office and find out for sure. This is NOT a local number for our state's SSA office.. Ha! Not surprised at all...

received call from this number at 2:05 p.m. Feb. 7, 2013. do not recognize this number, did not answer the call

Received a call this morning saying that my form was incomplete. I questioned who they were, he said there was no way to confirm if the call was legitimate. I could call the social security office but it would take two hours to track down "Dan"; the only name he was willing to give. I said I would not give my info and he quickly got off. I call the ss office and the assured me there were no incomplete forms. The number was unfamiliar to them. They always give first and last names, identifiable number, and other specific info to assure that it is indeed from their office. DO NOT GIVE Info!

I recieved a message from this number 570-831-1296 stating to be Social Security (the caller ID came up as US Government) asking me to verify my information..
Told them I was NOT the person who they were looking for and hung up..Called it back and it again claimed to be Social Security, this time with a recorded message saying they were trying to get in touch with me and would be calling me again.
I immediately called the REAL Social Security Office who told me IT IS INDEED A SCAM trying to get informantion by claiming to set you up with direct deposit. They also told to call the Social Security Fraud Hotline (1-800-269-0271) between 10-4 est and report it to them.
DO NOT EVER GIVE OUT ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION TO ANYONE WHO CALLS YOU requesting it
Social Security will ALWAYS contact you by mail if they need something from you.

Whenever anyone asks for my SS# I just tell them it's "unlisted". Not for everyone, but I enjoy doing it. Cuts through the dead wood.
| Carolt 2012-10-12 17:23:21 Unknown |
What alerted me was they asked me for my SS# to verify they were talking to me. I understand SS NEVER asks for a SS# over the phone.

570-831-1296 caller ID says US Government... at 10:15 PM...!?! Clearly, this is a scam call. I recently put something for sale on Craig's List and I did respond to one interested buyer e-mail with my phone number. It is possible that this is how they got my number.

That was supposed to say I don't believe this number is legitimate at all, since the social security office didn't recognize the number themselves.
