Yep, RIT after more money from alums.  Current students calling and pretending to need to update your alumni information.  Then they tell you what's new on campus, then they ask for money.  It's pretty sad that I ignore all calls from that area code now.

It's RIT. I get this call at least once a week. Usually around 9pm. I didn't realize that when I payed them $120,000 for an education that they would constantly be hitting me up for more when I graduated. I'm beginning to think that the 4 year education was just a ploy to get my number.

I gave an annual donation earlier in the year.  I don't approve of the late hours of the calls or the frequency.  If I give an annual donation, I don't expect to be hit up several more times throughout the year.  I get calls quarterly that continue daily for a couple weeks at a time before it stops until the next quarter.  Unfortuneately that makes me not want to donate at all.  I will probably continue with an annual donation and not do any additional.  I did get a good education and a was able to get a job within a couple months of graduation.

Apparently it is RIT asking for money, but I've had them call about ten times (not too bad, since I got my degree five years ago) and only two or three times did someone actually speak to me. The rest of the time, someone just hangs up.

Are the collectors shy or somethings?

I mean, I'm fine with RIT asking for money but... they tend to call me and hang up. That is kinda creepy.

Karla,

I understand how you think that it is fair for a child raised in the city to gain a free college education, however, your reasoning is wrong. If your child was raised in Rochester, mind you, where you live, she could have saved you a ton of money by buying her own car and driving to the school each day (I've been working since I was 13, spare me the drama of saying she couldn't afford a car). I am one of those kids who was not afforded the luxury of getting a free education from anyone - anywhere.
I will have 10 times the debt that your child will have upon graduation, however, we will both have the same means to repay that debt. She will be paid off in 4 years, and I will be paying until I am in my 40's. Tell me how that is fair.
I don't hate anyone for taking advantage of an offer given freely by the college. I just wish that this offer would be more evenly distributed to those of us that were just rich enough to not get benefits but just poor enough where their parents could not pay for any of their education.

To the "poor" parents -- two words:

State Schools.

If RIT wants to give away degrees it can dip into it's massive portfolio and holdings -- they don't need to redistribute my money.

They can also cut the pay of the useless administrators and some of those tenured professors that aren't worth a crap.

...And. if their tuition wasn't ridiculously high maybe more kids could attend.

I graduated from RIT and I'm getting these calls, sometimes up to twice daily, and definitely on Sunday evenings. The point is that it is rude and intrusive to make these phone calls. I did not give RIT my phone number so that I can be harrassed!

Here's an idea, why don't you totally grow up and lke totally stop talking like, um, you're 13... then maybe you'll be able to get a job, pay your debt, be grateful and throw a poor kid $20, rather than spend it on hair spray and new shoes... and while you're at it, learn the difference between to and too, my 9 year old is smarter than that... how did you even get into RIT?

I understand peoples' frustrations over the fundraising efforts, we all have to do things we wish we didn't have to in this economy.  I am the (single) mother of one of those RCS kids whose parent makes under $60K.  Yeah, almost all the kids can get a free education IF they are motivated and go to school and get the grades my kid did and activities she was involved in in spite of being in a City school.  I am in no position to donate ANYTHING, yet just because I see some rude comments here, I think I will take a hit on my own budget and donate a little something, if anything to just show my APPRECIATION there is something my child can get that will help her do better than I did.  I don't regret my decision to be a single parent - I work hard, I bought a house for me and my kids without any help from anyone, I raised three great kids.  There are always people who aren't happy with what they have as opposed to what others 'get'.  I hope this fella's happy about making his choice to have kids and being ABLE to live in the suburbs.  Walk in someone else's shoes before you make disparaging comments when you don't know anything about what some folks have had to go through.  We still have to pay for books.  Still had to pay for a meal plan when she was living in the dorms.  Those things alone were thousands of dollars.  We are taking loans, like mostly everyone else is - EVEN THE ONES WHO LIVE IN THE SUBURBS, so get over it already.  I wouldn't categorize it as 'discrimination'.  A gift is given without thought of something in return, but the kids who are succeeding - and there are some that are not - will be fruitfully productive citizens who will be taking care of us in our old age.  I hope you feel blessed to be able to afford living in the suburbs and having (hopefully) another working partner to help you continue to afford your own lifestyle, whatever it may be.  I do not hold anything against you because you have something I don't.  We all deal with our choices, but don't blame kids or parents who aren't financially blessed for something someone thought was a good idea.  I wonder how many tax loopholes, shelters, and ways to 'save' on taxes are taken advantage of by people who share this ideology.  That's no different.  But I don't castigate you for making those choices, and I have to pay my share and not be able to TAKE those kinds of deductions.  I just want people to realize that everyone can't be painted with the same broad brush as this guy would like to do.  I pray for people to love one another and stop the hate....

RIT begging for money again. I am sick of them. They have money to burn. They are giving free college educations to all Rochester City School Kids whose parents make under $60,000. That's almost all the kids in the RCSD than can get a free education. $30,000 gift a year for some kids. Then they have the balls to call me and ask for money. I have to pay for my kids because I live in the suburbs. DISCRIMINATION>>>>>>>>

Dan an 1977 RIT Alumni.   Just donate $20 and they go away for a year.

The callers are poor students who couldn't land a coop job.  The school gives them a coop job soliciting funds.  Your donation will help RIT and the poor student who needs to make a quota (my guess).

They called me on a Monday night at 7:42pm. That's crazy. Didn't I already give them over $120,000 to go to school there?! Plus I donated once since I was out. I'm done for now. The economy sucks
