Said they are calling from AT&T and that the call may be monitored. Looking to talk to the owner of the account. If they were legit, wouldn't they know? Gave me this callback # (800)395-8334 but caller id gives this # (605)232-6573
Eric 2011-06-06 20:52:20 Unknown
Called yesterday and today. Only rings a couple of times.
Not from AT&T 2011-06-06 20:52:20 Unknown
This caller claimed to be verifying my account information with AT&T and I thought something was fishy, because wouldn't they have my info right in front of them? I wasn't about to give out my other phone numbers to them because then they could add those to a telemarketing list. So I asker her, "Why don't you tell me my info and I'll let you know if its correct". She wouldn't so I hung up.
I think the positive posts below are suspicious. Probably posted by one of the telemarketers.

Sorry, but I don't think you realize how many of these types of calls, and this one in particular cost in lost time. I own a small business and I have to stop everything I'm doing probably 20 times a day to try and answer a call that is a dead line or has someone trying to sell something that is bogus.

This number is one of the AT&T Customer Service numbers...
I don't know if they do blind solicitation from this number, but in my case they called because my original calling plan was going to expire, and they wanted to offer me another plan.
In some cases this call can be helpful because if your calling plan expires your phone may default to a REALLY expensive 'per-minute' plan, especially with long distance or International calling (if AT&T is your long distance carrier, that is)

Caller said she was calling on behalf of AT&T and wanted to go over my account to ensure I had the best plan. She didn't know anything about my account information except the number that was dialed to reach me.
She then wanted to know what type of business we were. I asked why AT&T needed to know that and she started to stammer a little as she gave some BS answer. I thanked her for calling and hung up.

The phone rang exactly once, then the caller was gone before I could answer. That's like a mischievous kid who rings your doorbell and runs.

If they don't know the name of the person that it is billed too
Then its BS

left message saying urgent to call back a 800 number regarding ATT business account and must speak to someone today. Never called back
EJO 2011-06-06 20:52:20 Unknown
These people been calling several times, I say they are manipulative and tries to trick those who could be tricked to switch to a cheaper phone service. AT& T should really look into this because these people initially asks who is the person who makes decision regarding AT&T account. I ask if they can put all their promises in writing and send it by mail but they can't. ???
All I can say is people BEWARE!

Rec'd a call from this number for supposed "nonpayment" of my phone bill. Looked it up and it was paid in full. Got transferred two more times. In the meantime, I found your website and realized it could be a hoax. I asked the third "operator" what company was calling me, she argued and said that "I called" her. Then hung up on me.

three days in a row now, they call my business asking for the person who handles the at&t account. i've told them three times now that we don't have at&t and whatever information they're looking at is incorrect. after the first call i looked up the number on here so the second time they called i said "i know you aren't at&t, quit calling me"
and make a note of this "person with a heart", i don't give a s**t if it is their job, it's harassing me and attempting to SCAM and fraudulently gain my services.
unknown 2011-06-06 20:52:20 Unknown
Someone named Jeff Jones called and calls the office as well and makes it sound "urgent". This person already left a message at my office and now on my cell??! This is harassing! One message and work is okay but ENOUGH!!! We don't have time for this.

gosh guys these are only people doing their job get a grip take a minute to listen they might actually be able to save you some money
Jennifer 2011-06-06 20:52:20 Unknown
You can use filter rules to hang up or play a remove number message. You can also have time-of-day forwarding rules.
This is really an annoyance and it is getting more common. The only way to fight it is with the "anti-virus" of telephony - filtering the calls.

I get a call every now and again from this number on my business line. They leave a message from AT&T California. They state they have my account pulled up and it is very important that I call back to 800-395-8334. I have auto-pay on my AMEX, so I know it's not a billing issue. When I called back, I got a message machine to leave my number and the agent who called me.

Caller identified himself as Mr. Williams with AT&T and wanted to "go over" my account to make sure that none of my service contracts were set to expire.
Rusty 2011-06-06 20:52:20 Unknown
It's a long distance reseller, trying to get you to switch to their carrier.

Got a call from 605-232-6573. I was not available to answer it and no message was left. My caller ID says the owner of that number is "unavailable."

Left message identifying themselves as "a representative of AT&T" requesting a callback about business phone service. Any LEGITIMATE need for contact about my account will come through the US Mail. You can safely ignore ALL calls like this. The phone company must contact you in writing if they have real business and can't get you on the phone. Do not answer these calls or return them: they are all time wasting, annoying sales pitches.

Called and said same stuff about being WITH AT&T, not a subsidiary. Could lower my phone bills, played along for a minute remembering I had seen the 605 area code and the notes on this site.
When he said "ain't" and your CONTRACT with AT&T...I said well I know you are a scam, AT&T does not have contracts!

for all of those people complaining that EDGE TELESERVICES is calling on behalf of AT&T THAT IS RIGHT BECAUSE AT&T HAS ASKED US TO CALL YOU DO TO THE FACT AT&T IS A BIG COMPANY AND THEY DO A REVIEW TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE GETTING THE BEST DEAL AND THAT YOU ARE HAPPY WITH YOUR SERVICE IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THAT AT&T HAS ASKED US TO DO SO THEN YOU CAN VIEW THAT AT WWW.ATT.COM/TELEMARKETING AND EDGE TELESERVICES IS THE NUMBER ONE BUSINESS ON THERE FOR AT&T SO YOU ALL CAN RELAX..

Ladies and Gents,
I recieved an AT&T promotion call from this number, identifying themselves as "EdgeTel on behalf of AT&T". I called AT&T directly - at the customer service number on my business bill - regarding the phone call I had with these individuals.
Contrary to my initial feeling - the AT&T rep whom I called directly CONFIRMED THIS WAS A LEGITIMATE CALL FOR A PLAN PROMOTION.
As it turns out, AT&T has farmed out their solicitations for small businesses (see www.att.com/telemarketing) to this group in an effort to promote reductions to your bill. The phone call notes were entered to the AT&T database, so the AT&T rep I spoke with could verify everything the EdgeTel rep had discussed.
My problem lies with asking sensitive information over the phone from a third party. In order to change my plan, I was asked to devulge my TaxID and SS# among other things. This type of information should never be requested over the phone and certainly not given if I didn't initiate the call.
