I thought her email responses seemed odd, I asked her questions and she completely dodged them. Also thought it was weird that she wanted to send me a check before the babysitting even took place. Glad I decided to google search her before giving her any information. Thanks everyone for the warning!

Ok. so I replied to a "baby sitting" ad on CL last night. CHERYL MCCOY said she needed a sitter for 2 weeks because she "was new" to town.  "The first mind" told me something was wrong just from the fact that she was looking for a 2-week babysitter, not to mention she didn't ask for references, only a resume, which I never put my full name and address on.  I googled her name, got nothing, and replied to the ad, all the while feeling something was wrong before I hit the send button... She enthusiastically responded with info that contradicted her ad--namely she was in MO and moving to the city (Boston) she said she was already in; requested my full name and address; and then the wording of the ad was another red flag I didn't even need.  "The first mind" AND COMMON SENSE told me something wasn't right.  So just minutes ago I googled her name again this time adding babysitter to it and wahlah I found you all!  So FYI everyone, CHERYL MCCOY is now running a babysitting scam.  In my next reply I'm going to send her stupid @#$ this link.

Weird syntax...cashiers check..yadayada..SCUMBAG!!!!!

Just got the same email from the person on Craigslist.  Wanted the room without evertalking to ma or seeing the house.  Seemed really odd and I ended up finding all the info I needed on her right here.  Thanks to all of you who posted.  She has my phone number, can she do anything with that??

OMG I got the exact email, I keep asking her questions and she would write me with different stuff. She is willing to pay alot for one room that she hasnt seen and doesnt know where it is, I got suspicious and googled her up, here I am. thanks

"It" sent me a check and wanted me to wire the money....so i did, like an idiot! but Western Union , the people who are obviously smarter then me, stopped it! Same person just tried to scam me with the same letter word for word. Got her information from Craig's List as I was looking to rent out a room. She even sent me a fake money order and then wanted half back the next day so she could pay moving company. When I looked up the address on Google it looks like all apartment buildings. She is something else. Lucky me I only lost $12.00 charge from my bank for the fake money order. The place she wanted money sent to was in Michigan and the name was Marlon Shannon 4415 W. Vernor Highway Detroit Michigan, 48209 She has tried to scam people from Alsaka, OR, MO, AZ and who knows where else. She has also used another name with the same letter as above. BEWARE OF HER AS SHE IS A LEECH ON SOCIETY TRYING TO TAKE MONEY FROM HARD WORKING PEOPLE.

Got the exact same and could smell the scam. I don't know exactly what she gets out of it but why is it posted in such a small town as mine??

....i really needed to rent my room out for income and i even sent her pictures..well, i am glad i googled her name before going any further or giving her more private info.. That is so wrong but i guess we all have to be careful more than ever. what a shame and disappointment...

The number she gives comes up as a telemarketing number, IT'S A SCAM!

This same "Cheryl" is trying this same scam on Craigslist in the Northeast Texas area. Thanks everyone for the warning!!

This happened to me too a few months back. In late November. I was so happy in the beginning to find a potential roommate, nonetheless I was suspicious. The first email is exactly like the one posted by meniapolis sceptic. Then it just gets increasingly weirder. When she asked me for my address to send the check was when I got really suspicious. I searched her online and saw this.
It seems like she's an active scammer huh? Tries everywhere. Heck I'm sure she's not a she. Prob a he that's why she's "too busy to talk on the phone". I mean, c'mon! Who is THAT busy that they can't even speak to a future roommate but have time to text?
I hope no body gets scammed by her/him.

I found the same  situation on Craig' List in Phoenix from this scammer. Don't fall for it!!

I got this similiar but from a Ann Kathleen Cartier out of Idaho, Even told her don't do three way checks or sign for anybodys stuff. She agreed, Sent Money orders even after knowing I wont do 3-way. Guess what, she then asked me to w/u it to her contractor. Replied either w/u Money Gram or carrier pigeon isn't getting the funds out of the account. When the bank pulls them take the envelope and all the info to the Post master inspector and turn it over to them, cause their using the postal mail for a scam. I know have been their, police say its your bad Business dealings. your own fault. Now I got Cheryl as no 5. Isn't their any honest women on craigs list or is it a scam haven. tried 5 times now to rent a room and so far, 5 of this type. I tell them now, send W/u or money gram no other way. Probably No responses will be heard back.

I just got another reply off a different reply I sent to another ad....the syntax is very similar but this message is much more scatterbrained...talking about all sorts of odd jobs she does (don't want to put this name until Iam certain its also a scam) but in this again she talks about an uncle she's very close with who could be her financial backer if needed.

Here's the thing: I believe this is obviously not a woman. I think its a man scamming who says a woman because I think women would be more trusting to fall for this scam. "She" brings up her uncle in case someone demands to speak on the phone.

Yes this is a scam - i had to same in Vermont

I fell for her scam yesterday.  Being naive and trusting I gave her my phone number.  Can she do anything with it?  Or do I need to look into changing my number?

Any clue where this is from?
