A client of ours repeatedly has received calls from a gentlemen who has a very heavy accent and informs our client they have a deficiency in there income for 2013. Our client has not filed there taxes for the current year, so after reading this forum, I went ahead and informed our client to ignore the calls because the IRS usually will send written notices, especially as the first step in trying to communicate with a tax payer. Our client was not able to clearly hear the gentlemen's name, but the phone number that was given by the gentlemen was 1(607) 241-2857, so beware!! Thank you again to everyone who posted there encounters with this scam during this tax season! It's easy to be deceived while in the middle of the tax season, that's why this guy is trying to get money by picking on tax payer's at this time.

One of our clients has received a Prank Call from an "IRS Agent," with a very heavy accent stating their was a deficiency in the tax payer's income for this year. The tax payer has not filed there taxes fro the current year, but they have been getting repeated calls from this man. After seeing the comments on this forum, I went ahead and informed our client of the scam and to ignore any future calls from the gentlemen.
Thank you all fro posting on the matter! IRS communicate by mail, as I also informed the tax payer, they are not in the business to call and chase people, so look out if you have not ever received an written notices by the IRS before receiving this type of a message.

This # is scam / fraud they just want to give you a unnecessary heart attack and scare you in to giving them your debit card # so that they can charge you large amount of money for something you didn't even do! They are posing to be from the IRS but they aren't. IRS will only contact you from official communication via mail. And if ever in doubt, you can always call the IRS directly. Don't fall for this scam call, there are some that have been unfortunate victim of this inhumane scam. Take caution, report this # directly to the IRS at 1-800-366-4484, and advise friends and family to not take these calls seriously.

Got the call and called my accountant and was told that this scam is going around! She told me that the IRS will send tons of letters before actually calling you. The guy who called me had a thick accent and said his name was Adam Spencer -- with that accent --his name was NOT Adam Spencer.

We received the same call. Same guy, same message, same number. We immediately called the IRS's legitimate number from the website and info provided in earlier posts. We knew it was a scam and this was confirmed. Report to the Treasury Dept any call you receive from these folks at 1-800-366-4484 (Mon-Fri) or email at complaints@tigta.treas.gov

I received a message from an Indian guy saying that he is from the IRS. I am not calling him back. First of all, IRS has a proper way of reaching us if we have errors. These people has to be reported.

I am posting this as a follow up to my previous comments. I am now inclined to think this is a scam call. The man with the accent called me again at 7.30 am this morning once again admonishing me to call the IRS. I told him I already called and left a message. Furthermore I questioned him again as to why I never received any communication from the IRS in the mail and he had no answer. At that point we had a few words as I told him not to call me and if there was anything that needed to be addressed, it should be done in writing. This is definitely a scam and this guy is impersonating a federal agent. He even gave me an ID #.

I called a call feb-14-2014 from this number this morning telling me to have my lawyer call them back to avoid legal action against me. The caller was female with India accent. She said IRS, Internal Rev. Service. This has to be illegal to claim this. Is there a way we can forward this page to the real IRS for action to be taking against these frauds?

He called and his name was William Austin. A scam. The IRS website talks about such scams and what to do about it. Go to: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Warns-of-Pervasive-Telephone-Scam, or simply go to irs.gov and click on the link at the left called "IRS warns of telephone scams". This link tells you how to report such scams, such as 1) calling Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484, or 2) contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.
The notion behind this scam is to target especially people with a foreign sounding name, threaten deportation, and then try to get them to pay the scammer with a debit card in a panic. In our case, they were looking for my friend Jia (Chinese name), and said the IRS had a lawsuit against her and if she is being represented. However, Jia is clean with the IRS, and has not received any notifications by mail, so the lawsuit allegation did not make sense.

A man with a thick Islander accent just called and said he was from the IRS and he wanted us to return his call before court action was taken against us.

Woman with heavy Indian accent called telling me she from IRS. I saw the news the night before when they talked about an IRS scam so I started to ask her question which she could not answer. This is a fraud.

First of all, anybody need to know that the IRS would never call you- The agency is always using the proper method of reaching to you by using formal letter with the subject explained in the letter.
Dean 2014-02-13 23:18:24 Unknown
Supposedly "Dan Brown" from IRS. Also heavily accented man who couldn't properly pronounce half the words he was using. Called back and got voicemail of a different "IRS agent". Will keep calling back until it stops being fun.
teresa 2014-02-13 20:25:40 Unknown
The caller is a total scam artist. The IRS never calls first. I called him back and he cussed me out.

I just got a call from this number. I think it's a scam. We should report to police
carla 2014-02-13 19:45:15 Unknown
wow I got the same message from a man with a foreign accent that I needed to call an IRS agent. He even gave me his ID # from the IRS. I did call back the number he gave me but was only able to leave a message. I asked if IRS had sent mail correspondence and he said yes. But I never got anything in the mail! Still I don't think this is a scam and it could very well be a call from the IRS whic requires immediate attention at all times!
rose mary 2014-02-13 16:47:31 Unknown
I do not want to receive this call again. I am scared by what the caller told me.
