They also called for Spain. A person in English with Indian accent said the computer was attacking Microsoft servers. This infection of the virus could remotely and resolve to follow the steps indicated. Installing a remote access program to solve it from Windows Support Centre. Remove the antivirus. Give to a key that appeared on the screen. With this they were able to generate a hash with syskey that blocks access to the computer. To get the password would have to deposit money from one account.
It is clear that the purpose is to get money by becoming the bank account.
This remotely open a window for you to enter your bank details. To convince you say the window is a secure payment system.
If you've come this far do not worry about recovering your data. You can do a linux liveCD. But if you have to worry about your account. Tell the bank and denuncialos.

Tambien llamaron a España.

I live in the UK and just received a call from this number. When I answered there was silence at the other end, then after about 5 seconds a pre-recorded message in a us accent just said "good-bye" and then the call was ended?

Weird.

Over the weekend, I reported my dog missing to 24hour Pet Watch. Within a couple of hours, I had a call from this number with a guy with a very, very heavy accent. He said he was from an animal rescue society in Texas. My first thought was how is a company in Texas going to find my dog here in Michigan. Second thought is wow, can understand only about every 3rd or 4th word he says. I finally ended the call and said pretty much what my 1st thought was. I'm going to let 24hour Pet Watch know what happened as well so that they can remove this number from their contact list.

Same thing, got a call from someone saying they were from a company called Pixie (not absolutely sure as the caller had a heavy accent). She then went on to say that they're the official Windows support company and my computer was transmitting that it had a virus. I immediately told her there was no way that the computer would do that and supply my phone number. She assured me profusely that it did. I engaged her some more, but that was a mistake -- two minutes of my life I'll never get back. Sadly, there are people out there that fall for this scam.

Prank Call
I too have jsut received a scam call from the 607-722-9687 number and was told that this fellow (with a strong accent) was from the Windows Support Centre and that my computer was broadcasting my Windows Authentication Code out onto the net. He informed me that someone had captured the ID code from my computer and was now using that information for illegal purposes. I said I don't believe you for one second but he went onto say that it is true otherwise why would he call me.

For starters, my phone number is not associated with my windows ID in anyway because its first: unlisted and second: not the number used when I registered Windows...in fact I don't recall anywhere that windows requests a number during activation. Next I wanted to see how far this guy was willing to go so I asked what he wanted me to do and he had me open a Command box and asked me to type in ASSOC and then the enter key.  I SAID NOT A CHANCE BUDDY!!!!  He got really angry and put his manager on who also eventually got real angry with me after I told him I wanted to verify everything with Microsoft before I would do anything else. At that point he hung up.  About two minutes later he called back from a completely different number which was 315-789-9672 and said that if I didn't verify my ID code that he had no choice but to deactivate my windows ID which would make my computer stop functioning and that if I called their service centre back at 347-468-9607 to verify their call and confirm that I had run the ASSOC command and verified my ID, then he would reactivate my Windows and that would be the end of it.

Long story but can you believe the lengths these guys will go to to compromise your life. This is a complete scam (verified through Microsoft) but they could get their hooks into you with Malware if you proceed with the ASSOC command while they are on the other end to receive any bits that might sneak out onto the net. He even told me to disconnect my computer from the net if that made me feel better but I instantly thought, yeah sure....the second I reconnect, you have some little file that gets blasted out directly back to them for whatever purposes they have in mind.

Caution out there.....it's a dangerous world we live in now-a-days.

FIRST RED FLAG:  Why would a company be calling me for "Technical Support?"  Don't you normally need to call them when you're having issues?

SECOND RED FLAG:  My number(s) are on State AND Federal do not call lists.  So therefore they are out of DNC Compliance which is a BIG NO NO when it comes to the FTC and FCC rules and guidelines.  Any legitimate call center will not risk being audited by the FCC and forking out millions of dollars in fines.

THIRD RED FLAG:  607-722-9687 is not a valid phone number.  Again... this is against the rules and regulations set by the FTC and FCC for outbound telemarketing.  Outbound call centers must provide a working phone number to be broadcasted to caller ID in the event that the person they are trying to communicate with wants to request to be placed on a do not call list and not receive calls in the future.

This is strictly a scam to gain access to your computer.  For what reason... I do not know.  It could be to install some malicious software... hijack your computer for a money ransom... or to gain access to financial information and just plain steal your identity.  Just for kicks and giggles... I asked him to verify my IP address to insure that this "infection" was coming from my "com-pue-tor".  Needless to say he rattled off some IP address that wasn't even close.  I informed him that he was incorrect and this was obviously a scam call... and wished him a pleasant "GO PHUCK THYSELF!"

Caller had a heavy accent.  Said he was calling because I was the registered user for Windows and there was an issue with my computer.  I told him "no issues" and hung up.  These people scammed a friend of mine - took over her computer and held it hostage for a couple of hours trying to get her to give them a credit card number for their "services."

?3 times this week I've received a call from "Microsoft". They are telling me they received reports with problems on my computer and want me to open my Teamviewer program...

First time I pretend I would do it if they would tell me what kind of problems I got... then they hang up...
Second time I pretend I only know one word in English: FRAUD!... then they hang up
Third time I told them I dont have a computer... Then they hang up...

Next time I'll pretend to do everything they ask me, but be r e a l l y impossible with on a computer... Hope that will drive them nuts. Pay back time!!

Just got a phone call near Toronto Ontario from a guy who said he was mike from windows. Thats not very descriptive? Apparently I have a virus on my computer. Psh. He asked me if I was aware of the problem and I said yes good bye.  I dont understand why they bother? Do they get money off of me by calling me? Or is it when I sign up for help? Stupid.
