Because he has your driver's license number and presumably your name and address, you may want to consider placing a flag on your credit report with Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. This will prevent any new lines of credit being taken out in your name without verification that it is you applying. This coverage is free and lasts for 6 months.

OMG, I knew something didn't seem right. The same exact thing is happening to me and I sent my information. Thank you for this information as I was about to give this man money. He said his wife was going to get in touch with me to discuss the arrangements. He has stopped answering my calls because I was smart enough to check the tax collector in texas to verify the owner's name and wanted to know why his name was different. He said his name was Colin Widmar Mickens and he relocated to New Jersey for 6 or 7 years. I sent him my information but not my social just my DL number. OMG!!

I was sent the same rental agreement and story for a house in Breckenridge, CO.

Like others, he want 200 dollars to be sent to view the inside of the property.  He then insisted he would send me the code to get into the property so I could look at it.  Watch out.

He's trying the same scam in East Texas listing a house that is For Sale Buy Owner as his house for rent. I mailed and got the same response except he was being moved to Arkansas for work. He's a scam artist. The number is a VOIP provided by qwest communications, which means he could be anywhere. DO NOT SEND MONEY OR ANY INFO

I received a reply from a Craigslist inquiry with this phone number.  Here is the email I copied it below:

Hello,

We are pleased that you have an interest in our home, our lovely home is still available for lease and we want responsible adults/family that are neat and also believe that you have what it takes to take care of our house as if it were Yours. The main reason our house is up for lease is because I got transferred from my place of work to KENTUCKY, I and my family  will be away for at least a couple of  6  to 7 years. We will be very pleased if we can find the right potential tenant to rent our home, a person who is a clean & responsible  and does not tolerate anything that has to do with dirt. we also would like to know more about you and your family, your renting experience and how long and when you plan moving into our home.

Just decided to google this number because the house we are looking at seemed a little too good to be true. Someone at the same phone number is trying to "rent" a home in oklahoma and want us to fill out an online application. I can be reached at srllatimer@gmail.com if you have questions, we would like to stop these scammers!

I just responded to an ad on Craigslist in Lancaster PA.....I drove by the house it says it is for sale by owner...I was told that I could drive by anytime and look at it...I was sent pictures and told to go look at it and then get a hold of them ASAP......I filled out a quick application online and within minutes was told that I was approved as the new tenant...I have not yet seen the inside or met the landlord...now I am nervous about it

This number was used in a scam in Adrian MI.  The scam involved rental property and Western Union and Money Gram fund transfers.   Both transfers were to a Michelle Toney in Jasper GA.  If anyone has further information on Ms. Toney, I'd like to hear from you.

Yes he tried the same stunt on me. His scam is to try to get people to send him money to 'mail keys' to houses that he scopes out on craigslist for rent, pretending to be the owner of the house. I sure hope others are smart enough to check things!

Same here. I contacted the person via the email address on the Craigslist ad since the amount for rent was an obvious misprint (and, I found the house listed with a real agency). I toyed with the scammer for 3 days making them think I was going to send them money through Western Union. LOL! Always entertaining to mess with a scammer.
