I got a call from 616-597-4074.  Caller ID said "Circulation III".  I live in Washington State and 616 is a Michigan area code.  They were selling newspaper subscriptions for our local paper.  I told them I'm on the do-not-call list and that they're breaking the law.  The woman said that their computer generates numbers.  I told her it's their responsibility BY LAW to make sure none of their generated numbers are on the DNC list.  She was dumbfounded.

Then I decided to have a little fun.  She said that all they have is a phone number, no names or addresses.  So --- I gave my physical address, but I gave my great-grandmother's name as my own.  She's been dead for over 40 years.  So, I'm going to get a "free" paper until the bill comes.  When I don't pay, they can't put it on my credit report because they don't know my actual name!  It's the least they can do for hassling a person who's on the DNC list!  IN THE END, I WON.

Re:Calls from Circulation III at 616-597-4074

I have not answered as I do not answer calls from companies or numbers I do not recognize or that I have not asked to call me.  I know that I will create a lot of buzz with this but if they are working in the Birmingham area for the Birmingham News trying to increase subscriptions,  would it not be in their best interest to respond to your "Hello" with info on who they are and what they want, rather than sit there and breath while you listen to people talking in the bacground?  They really just want to verify, by your "hello" that it is a personal residence and that someone actually lives there. That way, they can say that you ordered the subscription and bill you for it.  Whatever happened to honest work for honest pay? I turn off the ringer on my phone. Anyone who absolutely must speak to me knows how to do so.  My possession of a land line does not give anyone wishing to be a nuisance, the power to do so.  I think instead of calling this company's 800 number and asking to be removed, I think that I will call the Birmingham news and ask them why they out-sourced a job to a company in Michigan, when there are people in Birmingham needing a job and those people have much better manners regarding phone etiquette and actually WANT to work.  Bet they can't answer that one.

I am in Birmingham and have received 4 calls from 616-597-4074 on my work number this month.  Immediate hang-ups the first few times.  The last time (5/19/08) a male voice said he had reached a wrong number and hung up.

I kept getting hung up on when I said hello, so the 5th time they called I picked up and didn't say a thing.  Lo and behold, a male with a southern accent said he was calling with the Birmingham News.  I asked why everytime I said hello they hung up and he blamed it on the phone system and something about it hanging up after 2-3 rings because it was automated.

I asked about the area code and he said he thought it was Michigan, but that he was calling from Dallas, TX.

I didn't say anything for a moment, and then he thanked me and hung up.  Weird.  It too sounded like a busy office, but every time I asked a question, he would mute me I thing because it sounded like dead air, and then answer my question.

Very strange.

I called the 800 number listed above and the lady that answered was very polite, and said my number would be added to their do not call list as soon as we hang up.

My minor child kept getting calls from (616)597-4074, so I have done some research online.  If you call 800-650-7183 they will remove the number from their call list, so they say.  We shall see if it was in fact removed.  I asked the person why the phone number shows it is from Michigan and she said she really did not know, "something to do with their phone system," as they are in Dallas, TX.  I also sent e-mails to all the people listed on their website:  John jdinan@circulationiii.com, President; Stephanie sdinan@circulationiii.com, Vice-President; fdavis@circulationiii.com, Sales Manager;  ehuq@circulationii.com, Human Resources, IT Manager; Mike mmcatee@circulationiii.com, IT Director; Tonja tsmith@circulationiii.com, Data Entry.  Was probably a mistake as know they'll start sending me unwanted e-mails.

Just called the 800 number listed by Chris from Lantana above.  I requested not only to be removed, but written confirmation as well.  I received the original call on my cell, which is odd.  apparently  Texas made it legal for telemarketers to call cellphones, that sucks.

Every once in a while this call now it is constant.  I have unplugged my phone so I don't have to listen to it anymore.  I use other means to communicate with the outside world, we only keep a land line for the internet use and that is about it.  Good luck getting rid of this spector.

They called all of our work phone #s today and my home # yesterday (we're in MA, they're in MI).  They say they're representing our local newspaper and am offering a discounted subscription.  They'll go away if you say they're calling a business.  They did have the name of our tiny hometown newspaper correct, so I think they're a telemarketer hired to make solicitations for smaller companies.

Rings, I answer, say hello twice, complete silence, then you can hear someone pick up and hang up, but say nothing.

Someone actually said hello ( young North American male ) when I answered a call from this number today on my CELL PHONE !!! The caller acted surprised that someone answered and meekly said hello. When I more forcibly said 'HELLOOOOO ??????' they hung up. I could hear a female talking to him in the background until he quizzedly returned my initial greeting whereupon she stopped in mid-sentence. Sounded like a busy office.

Anyone else get this on their cell ?

They just called me (9.20.07) for the first time and no one said a word to me after I said hello about 5x. I could hear sounds like a busy office in the background? The area code is Michigan according to Google, which is how I found this website too. I hate these types of f***ers! I'd like to be like the guy in the commercial that travels to their offices, finds the caller, then proceeds to kick the s**t out of that person on the spot!

This is from Circulation iii  (www.circulationiii.com) call them at 800-650-7183 and request that they remove your number. They are a telemarketing company that specializes in newspaper subscriptions. They called me and left a message on my voice mail, they spoke to it as if they were speaking to me, verifying information and such, 3 days later I started getting this paper that I never requested, when I called the newspaper they told me that I was responsible for the balance as it was past my 7 day trial period. So I am now fighting with circulation iii about this bill, it is only $3.50 which I will pay so it doesn't go on my credit, but it is the principle, so I will fight with them until they resolve this, thinking about turning them into the BBB and FTC.

DO THIS!
1st- Register for Do Not Call List, it takes seconds. Call from the number you want them to stop calling. 1-888-382-1222.
2nd- File a complaint with the FCC, it's easy and they will get them. You don't have to be on the list to complain, that just helps stop more calls.
