I think I've tracked down the source of these calls.

I received messages like this directing me to multiple phone numbers. (626) 923-9672 AND (626) 923-9680. I ran background checks on these numbers, both of which are landlines. One is registered to an owner in Rowland Heights CA., the other is registered to an owner in Glendora CA.

HOWEVER, I also found one common thread between both numbers. The phone service provider for BOTH OWNERS is "Mci Metro Ats Inc". When I checked out their company, this is what I found:

"Mci Metro Ats Inc
crank call outlet
2300 Meijer Drive
Troy, MI 48084-7130
(248) 280-3866

About Mci Metro Ats Inc

we call you at all hours of the day
we annoy the hell out of people for fun"

Once I identified the company, I did multiple Google searches. I can't begin to count the number and types of complaints against this company. They also appear to have locations in multiple states. (Haven't identified the one in CA yet).

I strongly urge all of you to file complaints with the FCC and police about this. Armed with this research, (the police can duplicate my phone checks), they'll be able to easily investigate and so will be more likely to do so. I'm also going to pass this information along to MetroPCS.

Btw, I did even more research and found postings from at least one of these people online. It looks like they're using phones they unlocked themselves through hacking to make the calls. My guess is to try to make it more difficult to trace them.

On 1/24/11 at 8:41 pm I got this text from 289647800@hrblock.com saying, "We found a problem in your 511165 MCard. Call 1 626 923 9872!"  I called the number from my landline and tried to press zero till I got an operator and finally decided to do a Google search on the 626 #. I was shocked to find that I seem to have been targeted in this scam and wonder how they got my cell phone number.

I got the same text but it was from next754@nexttel.net.  It said that Sercurity checking needed on card #xxxx.  I called the (626)923-9672 the recording said that they would need additional info.  I hung up. I do not own a credit card, my bank would notify me if it was my debit card.  The other person on my cell phone account recieved the same text.

MSG: Urgent : Your card starting with 511165--Is Frozen.  Call 6269239672!

I received this text message today.  I have no idea who this group is, but someone should investigate them.  This is most likely a fraud attempt.

I got it and called as well.. also report the number to the FCC and call your local police department. (626) area Code is in California and they will no take reports by phone.

IT IS ID theift!! it is a recorded system asking you to input your card number, expiration date and PIN NUMBER .. of course I gave it fake info .. number that could NOT be valid (5111 1111 1111 1111), an expired date ..  and pin 0000

I suggest flooding them with fake info as well as .. SCREW WITH THEM FOR SCREWING WITH US!!

My text msg is from metro6@mymetropcs.com/

"Important: Your Emerald-Card Starting with 511165Is Frozen. Call 6269239672 For Details."

I typed this exactly as I received it which includes the numbers smushed in with the word "Is".

What if this is identity theft? I can't find a customer service number for Metro PCS where a live person answers the phone. Has anyone else gotten through?
