Codero, the hosting company that is spoofed in this email, has posted a response on their blog: http://www.codero.com/blog/domain-registration-spoof-e-mail/

I talked to a Codero sales rep at the company today. They are working the FBI to track down the people who did this.

Deception has become so common place in American marketing strategies. It's sill unethical and in many cases criminal.  

Make sure and report all scams like this to the BBB where the business is located if possible and with the FTC and Atty. Generals office of that state.

They all generally give you the brush off (sometimes you may not even realize it) but they are paid very well to investigate these matters. It would only take them a few minutes with any of their resources to resolve this one.

just received this unsolicited email about renewing our association's domain says coming from support@codero.com - its a scam

I've also had one of these scam emails yesterday, and can confirm the details are correct - I imagine they've got them via NSLOOKUP. The unsubscribe address belongs to a domain that is for sale so the company the email purports to be sent from (codero.com) is possibly false also. I'll be contacting my ISP and the police shortly (for their info/intelligence).

I also received the misleading e-mail sent to be from Domain Services implying that it is in conjunction with ?INTERNIC/DOMAIN SERVICES? mandatory registration information. What concerns me the most is that they have most all my personal information already. (DO NOT RESPOND, UNSUBSCRIBE OR ANY CONTACT THAT WOULD CONFIRM YOUR INFORMATION IS VALID OR NOT. ALL THEY WILL NEED IS CONFORMATION AND THEY COULD POSSIBLY SCAM AND ROB YOU BLIND) As an information technology professor and industry professional, I advise all personal (Non Corp) URL holders to list your website as anonymous. Ask your domain registration service and host service for more details.

This is being sent out to all domain holders, it is false and intent robbery
