I received a call today from the A-1 Tech Squad, who gave me their phone number 645-918-1485.
His Indian accent was hard for me to understand and his call was unsolicited. He wanted to give me some error reports and work thru these issues on my computer with him. He called himself Richard and asked me to follow his directions.  I politely declined and said I would call him back if I needed his services. I am thankful that I recognized this as a scam. I immediately notified my family members. BE WARE!

We got a call at our business today from someone who was supposedly with Microsoft. He (in a heavy Indian accent) said that our "servers are sending thousands of error messages to the Windows servers" and that he "needed to log on to my computer to fix it."

We use an IT consultant to handle all computer issues, so I told this man that I'd get his number and have our IT person call him back if there was any issue. He gave me 646-915-1375 and said he was with A One Tech Squad. This is obviously a scam.

Just received a call from A1TECH about my computer running slow. Was stupid enough to get suckered in for a $99 payment. After they started "working" on my computer I Googled the company on my phone and saw all of the scam blogs pop up. Immediately called my credit card company and disputed the charges; they said they would take care of it. I just hope they haven't stolen anything off my computer. Looks like I'll be changing all of my account information. Somebody should get these a***oles!

SCAM ALERT !  Just got the same call about my computer generating thousands of error messages & he wanted me to log into the computer so he could walk me through how to fix the issue. He said about 11,000 computers had crashed last year due to this issue. This first person was a male who also had heavy Indian accent. I wouldn't bite so he handed me to the Sr. Tech who also had heavy Indian accent, named "Stanley Johnson". When I asked for his "given name" from birth, he declined. When asked about location, he said he was in NY City. Company was supposed to be Windows Tech Dept, A1 Tech Squad. I refused to turn on my computer because I didn't trust that this was a legitimate call. He did give me a Computer License ID # and told me to turn on my computer to verify that license #. Again, I declined to do so. When I asked for his company's phone #, he gave phone # 646-915-1375.  I checked Snopes.com, http://www.snopes.com/fraud/telephone/microsoft.asp.  Microsoft reports that it does not call people to report that the owner's computer is having issues. SCAM ALERT !!

Prank Call
I just received a call from 646-000-0000.  'Peter Jackson' informed me in a very thick Indian accent that my computer was causing thousands of error messages to be sent out.  He said he was with Microsoft Tech support.  I asked him which of my 3 computers was having the issue.  He couldn't tell me, but had me speak to his supervisor.  'Jason Thomas', (a little less Indian, I think) wanted to access any of the 3.  I asked him for a number that I could call back.  He gave me 646-915-1375....which, needless to say, has provided some very entertaining reading.  I received a very similar call from a female Indian voice ('restricted number')  yesterday who told me that my computer with Windows 7 was the one with the issue.  She guessed wrong...click.

A guy (Michael) with an Indian accent called me today.  My phone  show 202-202-1234 on the caller id.  Michael said that my computer was generating several error messages and  that these messages were clogging their server.  He wanted to know if I was in front of my computer. I said no.  I asked him to give me a number to call when I get to my computer.  He gave me 646-915-1375.  I called him later and told him he is a scam artist that he should go and google his telephone number.  I hung up.

Boy did I ever make a mistake!  The Indian man called again today after my having let them "fix" the errors in my computer.  Same telephone number as others have reported.  Why I hate computers.

Got a call today from an Indian guy saying my pc has error messages.  He wanted me to go to a website and to give him access to my computer so he can show me the error messages I am generating.  DO NOT DO WHAT HE SAYS.  The program he is asking you to install will allow him to get into your PC!
He said his number is 646-915-1375 and his name is Sean Brown.  He should have come up with a better name.

ditto all of the prior posts.  Caller ("Johnie") said he was in Washington D.C. but that his company was headquartered in NYC.  I asked for the number I could call back when in front of the PC. and he gave me this number.  He answered in the negative when asked if he was with Microsoft, but said he received errors and warnings from my computer through "the main servers at Windows."

If you haven't already done so, yes, you should call your card company and tell them what happened.  You'll probably need a new card.  BTW, Microsoft does NOT monitor everyone's computers for errors or viruses etc - and they NEVER call you unless you have called them first.

Thanks for all of the info.  I, too, thought it was a total scam.  And seriously, BEN JOHNSON...enough said.

I have a question though, how did they get my phone number?  "Ben" would not answer that question.  It is the number associated with my internet provider.

Just got a phone call from someone with an obvious accent saying he was from A1tech.  He insisted that windows was getting or giving out error etc  messages and if I would go to and open windows they would fix my computer.  I told him I would check with my on computer geek and he insisted he couldn't help me as it's a window issue.  I told him no thanks and when he persisted I just said "forget it and hang up.  I'll just let my computer blow up!"
Someone should be able to "go get them".  There's enough reports for it to be something illegal.  Why doesn't Windows send out a warning?

I received 3 calls recently, only one of which I answered but all were from the same number with area code 202. The person on the other end was difficult to understand.  They said they were representing Windows and that they were receiving errors regarding my computer. They asked me to open up my computer and they would show me.  Of course I did not.  When I questioned them and asked them if I could have their phone number and name, it was the above number 646-915-1375.    They said they were the Windows Tech Squad.   Folks you should also report this to the Do Not Call Registry.

Just talked at length with an Indian man. Same story as above, until we got to the part where he wanted me to run his website (RUN via windows, not look at online). He also said he was from "a one tech squad" and I asked how that had anything to do with microsoft windows. I then kept him on the phone for a while asking company questions. He said no scammer or hacker would directly call people, they would just help themselves to your computer. I explained that this call was out of nowhere and that he would just have to wait while I read about his company. It didn't go well. He said I could call him back after I decided and gave me his business hours. His name was "Magdod" or something like that - he didn't spell it for me.  Hours are from 1-8pm easter time. Phone #202-202-1234

I received a call from someone identifying himself as working for A-1 Tech Support for Windows. He said he could fix my computer and I don't even own a windows computer! He had a strong accent (possibly Indian?) and was very difficult to understand. I told him I would call to verify that he was who he said he was and he gave me this number to verify. Definitely a SCAM!

I received 2 calls today from someone with a heavy accent saying something about microsoft errors from my computer.  I told him that I do not handle any business over telephone.  When I asked for his phone number, he gave me 202 202-1234,  I also asked for his business address which totally threw him off.  He claimed to be working for A1 tech squad for over 2 years.  He should have been able to ramble off the address in his sleep.  I asked him to spell his name--he claims Jack Wilson--really.

Received a call a few minutes ago. Guy said my computer was sending error messages to Microsoft and wanted me to push several buttons to fix the problem. I asked for a number where I could check this out. When I called it, a message comes on saying the mail box is full. The caller ID number doesn't work at all.
