Numerous calls, some at 5am, claiming to be from AT&T calling about a credit on our AT&T account (we have Verizon), but every time it shows a different 800 number.

Received a call today in regards to one of our locations, wanting to reduce our
long distance rates.  I advised the caller the number he was referring to did not
have access to long distance calling.  He then told me it did and apparently
I wasn't aware that I could make long distance calls.  He then asked if our
business had any other numbers that he could help me with, and he would
also apply the 'reduced rate' to that number.  I then stopped him by
saying I had not authorized him to change anything...........all of a sudden
our call ended.......imagine that.

This number called into my employer today. Said we could reduce the rates on our account. I had no idea what he was talking about and asked him he he knew which department he was looking for. He said I could handle it. I said let me get you number so someone can call you back. He said he couldn't do that because it was a one time offer. I said let me relay the message to someone. I got the number off the caller id.

Im will Verizon and these people called me doing the same thing. Switching you to a much lower phone plan than Verizon. Third party person you must verify identiy with yes or no answers only. Absolutly no questions allowed or the authorization can not go through. I asked if they would be contacting Verizon to cancel with them and that is when they cut me off. Telemarketer called back, but I had looked on the computer for information and found this site. So I told her I changed my mind.

Our landline is a business listing through Century Link (former Embarq, Sprint etc). as we own a painting contracting business. Our personal names are not even associated with our landline account. We received a call today without the person disclosing their name and asked to speak to the person in charge of the land line and that he wanted us to know how his company had made a deal with the local phone company to help reduce our phone rates. My wife asked him why the local company was not informing us or following up with us as we have been loyal customers and believes he said he was with Reliant.  She asked for a phone number to call him back after she varified with the local phone company that the offer was legitimate. The sales person promptly hung up on her. After the call I dialed *69 and the recording gave me an 800 # of 877.330.0633. When I called that # a message said the box at extention (702) 560-6964 was full and could not receive any more messages I then proceeded to google area code #702 and the drop down box offered 702 phone scam as a choice and I realized it was a call from the Henderson, Las Vegas NV area. Another attempted scam thwarted with excellent qualifying questions for the caller. Way to go wife!!!!

Called by Don Collins saying he was calling from AT&T. I asked if he was from AT&T or on behalf of AT&T. Then the tap dance started. He said he was from Telco. He wanted to offer a $6.99/month rate for switching service from AT&T but there would be some service/connection fees. I asked for a website that gave details and he gave me "BusinessNetworkLongDistance.com". Don't fall for this scam!

Identified themselves as BNLD  they said they were associated with AT&T,  reuding our phone cost,  I put them on hold and called AT&T.  AT&T said they are not associated with any other company and this was most likely some kind of scam.

Thought you would like to know!

I just received this same call.  The woman identified herself as being with CNBI and Qwest.  I told her I don't want to change anything on our account.  She really did make it sound like she represented Qwest.  BEWARE!

Got 3 calls this week from caller id NEVADA.  Said they wanted to advise me of the rate reductions & savings I would be getting from AT&T  and I simply told her that I liked what I had already and was not interested in changing a darn thing about my phone service.  No doubt this is some sort of scam, be very careful with these calls.

Same thing happened to me today.  CNBI called posing to be a QWEST employee making a "courtesy call" as we had failed to return the bottom portion of a letter they sent asking to be switched to QWEST's "new" long distance carrier.  Asked her three times during the course of the conversation if she was indeed from QWEST and each time the answer was yes.  Called QWEST to report this - evidently it is a growing scam....BEWARE!!!!

They did the same and once i told that my rates were not what she quoted and then asked some other random question. And i politely told her that this was  a waste of time calling here if is not AT&T we are not changing NOTHING. Really waste of time they call me 5 or 6 times a week about a saving on the AT& T bill. NO employee number was giving and she spoke her name so fast until i couldn't get it.

My business got a phone call from CNBI, who claimed they are contracting with Qwest for long distance. They asked for the person who handles phone service. The woman caller (she stated her name, but I didn't write it down) said she was calling to inform me of rate cuts for intralata, interlata, and international calls to 5 cents per minute, and that our service fee would be cut from $16.99 a month to $6.99 a month. I asked about calls to Ecuadorian cell phones, and she said they would be 5 cents a minute.  She gave me our company name and physical address and asked for verification. She switched me over to Capital Verification to verify information, none of which could not be found on our website.  At the end of the call, they gave me an 800 customer service number to call if I had any questions.

I called Qwest to see if they were indeed contracting with CNBI (Communications Network Billing Inc), and they are not. I told them I thought I might have been scammed, and they told me to watch my bill, and that it would not be a problem to switch back to Qwest.  I looked up CNBI on the internet and called their customer service line (which matched the number given me by the caller) and asked about rates. They said they couldn't verify rates for 48 to 72 business hours. Sounds pretty shady.

A man named "Oliver" ("Employee ID # A2A2") called two weeks in a row from this number, first claiming to be with CNBI, which was allegedly merging with AT&T, and the second time pretending to be with Verizon.  He claimed it was his job to disclose to me the savings I was going to receive.  He rattled off a couple different new rates and then said he just needed to get all the phone numbers on my account.  At this point, I hung up.  When I called AT&T's Fraud Department to verify the phone call the first time, the woman I spoke to laughed long and hard at the obviously fake Employee ID #.

"Oliver" appears to be working for one of those third party billing companies; they are such a scam.  Any changes to your rates, or details about companies merging, will be disclosed to you in writing by the company you have a business relationship with (be it Verizon, AT&T, whatever), not over the phone by a third party requesting personal information.
