Got numerous calls from this drunk at all-hours of the night. Wouldn't say who she was, because she couldn't speak clearly. It should be a law that solicitors can't call at 1 A.M.! Drunk people should NOT get these jobs!

Its been quite a while since these bozos called me but they're back at it again. A supposedly local call.
I saw "Police Protect" on the caller ID so flipped the phone on then off so they got a hang up instead of an answering machine.

Officials in Montgomery County, Maryland, a Washington, DC suburb, are accusing a charity allegedly raising money for police officers with fraud. The Police Protective Fund denies the allegation.
"Just as with every other area of charitable giving, the scam artists have found a way to muddy the waters and divert money away from legitimate law enforcement charities," said Montgomery Executive Douglas M. Duncan.
Duncan says The Police Protective Fund uses telemarketers to raise money for the charity, which is supposed to help police officers. However, he says the fund's tax filings and other documents show it spent most of its budget on fundraising and salaries.
Some of its officials made more than $110,000 a year, while the company used telemarketing firms to solicit donations, according to the documents.

We are receiving multiple calls each day from this number and have received calls over the past eighteen months from this same number. Yesterday, after the third call, I asked the individual calling "respectfully to remove my name from your call list". He hung up the phone.
Today the calls began around nine o'clock this morning. The first two calls went unanswered and the third was answered by my wife. She, in much stronger terms than mine from yesterday, again asked to have our phone number removed from their call list. This time the individual became belligerent and then hung up.
Upon arriving home today, we were greeted with another call from this number which I answered and the caller hung up without a word. If this doesn't qualify as harassment, what does?
Does anyone known of a way to put a stop to this practice and see that these people are prosecuted for this obvious scam???????

I have also received calls from "Police Protect...". I answered the first time just out of curiosity, since I didn't recognize the number. The second I did though, they asked for my mother. They immediately thanked my mother for donating a "generous sum" to their organization. Which got me suspicious because my mother hasn't donated money to ANYONE. They then asked me if I would like to continue these generous donations today and pick up some sort of sticker. I then asked them, "Sir, I'm sorry, but I don't recall donating any kind of money to your group. When did this start exactly?" They automatically hung up on me. Surprisingly though, they called again on July 1st. I didn't bother answering though. Instead I decided to look up and see if anyone else had received these calls form them. And now I know.

Yes. This is a scam out of Charlotte NC. If you call the number they'll tell you their working on the behalf of the Police. They won't identify Charlotte, Raleigh, etc. But you can trust them. They WON"T ACCEPT CHECKS!

Just received a call from these folks today. It's been a few years since my last call and hopefully this will be it for awhile.
For folks in North Carolina contact the Consumer Protection Division of the states Attorney Generals office. They actually investigate these things and I have had good results in the past of them getting some of these calls to stopped.

They called and I answered on the 4th ring and they hung up. If they call again I'll block that #.
Thanks to all for the information.

I just received a call from this number and I answered because it said Police Protect on my caller ID and I said Hello 2 or 3 times then I got that ring and message for when someone hangs up so I hung up. I googled it to try to find out if it was a real Police number and I found this web site.

Just got a call from these people and wasn't sure at first if I should answer it or not. Because where I live we get calls from the city telling us if we have a criminal out and different things like that in our area. But I am so glad I didn't thank you everyone for putting this info on here!

As if we don't "donate" enough money through our property taxes! This is a scam that has been going on for as many years as I care to remember. They used to use the local sherriff department's widows and orphans fund as a reason to beg for money. They used to send out letters and now, they just boldly ask for credit or debit card numbers then as soon as you hang up after giving it to them, they have access to empty your bank account.

| sarah 2013-04-22 23:13:57 Unknown |
they just called me and I think it's because rumors of you taking a minor...because I think back and that's the only reason I can think of why they would call.

Tired of being plagued by Sales Calls -especially since signing onto Charter Internet Phone. The number of calls I get per day (EVEN ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST WITH THE FCC) are at a minimum of 12. No joke.
Caller ID "POLICE PROTECT" is what the unit displays. Well, where I live here in Caldwell NC -probably should have talked to them.
| NCResident 2013-04-22 18:26:38 Telemarketer |
Called at 2:23 pm. I have never had such a problem with so many sales calls until signing with Charter Comm. Internet phone. Luckily the service will let you block 12 numbers -even out of state numbers. What good does it do to be on the Do Not Call Registry? Number shows up as "POLICE PROTECT" on my caller id screen. Pretty bad when you need protection from police -but I do live in Caldwell County NC -I think we all need protection from Sheriff Jones. (www.topix.com) interesting reading.

This time, I answered the phone "Sheriff's Office" - usually, this gets a quick hang up from scammers. However, this guy is a pro and wasn't thrown by it. He said, "It is?" I said, "Yep." He then asked what number he had dialed, I told him he should know what he dialed, he said he did know, then he used my name. I just said "wrong" and hung up. The Osbornes at 10032 Oakbrook Dr #C, Charlotte, NC 28210 need to be stopped. Apparently, this has been going on for years, but the authorities aren't doing anything about it. I shudder to think how many good hearted people are being bilked out of their hard earned money.

They called 3 times in one day a few days ago. I answered the 3rd call and called them every name in the book and told them I would do the same every time they called. Haven't heard from them since. too bad. That was fun.
