Prank Call
EUSTIS -- Police are not laughing about a prank 911 call that they say was made by a man who claimed he was going to kill his baby.

Eustis police arrested Robert Brooks, 22, after they say he called 911 last month to say he killed his wife, and planned to kill his baby next.

Nearly three dozen officers and a SWAT team arrived at Brooks' neighbor's house before learning the call was a prank.

Bizarre Prank 911 Calls Lead To Arrest-Robert Brooks

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. -- Eustis police say a man called 911 last month saying that he had killed his wife and that he was going to kill his baby.

Police took the call seriously and sent 35 officers, a helicopter, and SWAT teams. But it turned out to be just a prank.Investigators say Robert Brooks made the call that sent police to a neighbor?s house. Chris Dunn lived at the home.?I hope he gets what he deserves honestly because that was a lot, it put us through a lot that night and the last couple of weeks,? Dunn said.

Brooks is also accused of pulled the same prank three different times to random addresses in Seminole County over the summer.

Police had to lock down neighborhoods. Innocent people were also pulled out of their homes.Brooks told WFTV from the Lake County jail that a mysterious friend, not him, made the prank the calls using a computer program.

Brooks says people are taking the situation too seriously. ?I understand that you have to take it to the extent, but they're making it too serious,? Brooks said.

Got a call today (May 2nd) from this number saying he was officer Robert Brooks calling from Virginia, when I asked what area code was 706. He informed me that he was from the U.S. Customs Dept., and he was calling to inform me that the U.S. DEA had received a package with my name and mailing address and had arrested the Drug sender who, he claimed, was, in turn, pressing charges against me for purchasing a "Controlled Substance" from overseas and that the DEA had a warrant out for my arrest and was going to come and arrest me at the address the package was to be mailed to. He named the contents and the number of pills.

I informed him that no DEA arrest I had ever heard of was preceded by a phone call warning someone of the arrest, especially from the US Customs. He said I shouldn't tell him how to do his job, and I thanked him for the call and hung up.

It scared the hell out of me, and until I read what happended to all the other people on this site, I thought I was going to be embarrassed in front of my workers by being arrested at my place of work, and then maybe would get my real address and arrest me in front of a new date I am just getting to know, which would mean, even though I didn't do anything, she would not want to have anything to do with me. My mind has been racing all day and I finally decided to look up the number and found that the same thing has happened to so many other people.

Thank God it is a hoax. I am so relieved. I have gotten other calls with a slightly different story saying they were working with the authorities from the Dominican Republic to try and arrest these criminals and that there is a pending warrant for my arrest but that I could pay a fine of $1,500 right then, and the charges would be dropped, but this guy didn;t ask for any money, so I got really scared.

Thank you people for posting your experiences,

David

I got a similar call today, this number, Extension 2225.  The caller claimed that he was DEA Officer Robert Brooks, badge number 7739, District 97.  He told me that there is a pending indictment in FL, issued TODAY, from U.S. Customs originating in the Dominican Republic.  I was told that if I did not pay >$759 TODAY, via Western Union, I would be arrested and jailed for up to two years.
He listed a Miami, FL case no. CPL-(six digits) - TNC-(four digits).
Could there be any validity to this????

Say they are from government.  Last week I was told there was a package in US Customs with my name and address.  A different number but it was verified as a scam.  This call today referenced that number so I did not bother again.  I am headed out the door right now to report all this stuff to police because I am so tired of it.  I have never, ever ordered anything from out of the country so they are barking up the "wrong" tree.  Ill make them sorry they ever harrassed me in the first place.  Oh, by the way, I have now had to block over 50 dirtbags from my phone for this junk.  I am fed up!
