I am also getting these calls constantly and they are even calling my work multiple times a day. The receptionist told them to stop calling and they called back 3 times after that. Then they made it one of my co-workers and demanded they find me and make me take the call. This is most certainly harassment at this point. I have spoken with them twice and asked them to send me something in writing, but they refuse to unless I wire them money. Please help. If you have any information on how to file charges against these people please pass it along.

Thank you.

This is regarding phone number 410-775-6073 but, the information is the same as the others have listed above.  I don't owe this money but they keep saying that I do and when I ask for documents they state that once this is paid they will send them to me and they can't and won't send them now, that the papers I signed for a cash loan states that the company can ask for the funds without providing documentation 21 days after I have not paid the loan.  Please help!!  I can't pay this.  Can send email to ksmith@omhs.org or smith2981@bellsouth.net

She call Meagon, who by the way sounded nigerian or some sort and Meagon said she took out a payday loan for $396 and it was now oweing $15,000.00! She said they could settle it right there if she paid $150 and faxed her SSN and bank information and signature. What a scam....everyone beware!!!! They knew part of her social and this scares me...please advise on what we should do from here.

I received a call from this number and the person left a voicemail stating she was Officer Magen Johnson and that I owned money and they were suing me and that I better not even try to ignore her call.  Of course I did not call back because I know who I owe and I had never heard of BCI.  If that wasn't bad enough, they called my job and my Godfather.  They left the same number with the job and they spoke with my Godfather and said they were in Chicago and they were suing me and I better call them.

I recieved a call at my place of employment(I work at a doctor's office). It was from an officer Gary Brown, he had an accent and said I had a US Payday loan of 250 dollars that I recieved sometime in 2009. He would not give me a date I said I needed on to go through my records to look. He said May then and finally said the 29th. He kept saying I needed to take care of it today by 2:30 central time and that I needed a lawyer. He would not send me any information reguarding this, it wasn't public record. When I asked to to talk to his supervisor she was very rude also. Would not give me anything. And said that I owed about 900 dollars to them and that they have sent me e-mails, not anything to my house. They had may information like my social security number which does scare me.

He said it was in reference to my sister being a "suspect" and that both of us should call him right away...I don't think so. No other info was given.

Fake Debt Collectors and Collection Tactics

If consumers did not have enough to worry about having to deal with rising credit card interest rates, late fees and over-limit fees, zombie debt, and fervent bill collectors, now we have to worry about collectors calling about fake debt.

While many legitimate collection agencies follow the FDCPA, there are some collectors out there that are only running a scam operation and will be quick to use threats and scare tactics to get you to pay up quick. Their scams turn up in mailboxes, on the internet and through the telephone every day. Some collectors pose as national banks, government agencies (FBI, CIA), or even popular celebrity stars to gain personal information. These phony collectors may threaten to repossess your house, issue a warrant for your arrest, or even garnish your pay check, all of which are against the FDCPA rules. Some of which are even laughable (for example, there is no debtor?s prison in the United States).

Fake debt scammers rely on the fear and lack of knowledge about debt collection laws within the population. They also figure that a certain percentage of their calls will be received by individuals who may be carrying debt on credit cards anyway and may be susceptible to intimidation. When collectors use misleading statements and fail to provide identification, they are breaking the law. Never pay money to a possible thief. Keep cool when you hear from collectors to avoid this collection abuse.

Many times, people who took out payday loans online in the past are most susceptible. If you took a payday loan, be aware scammers may have access to your Social Security number and other personal information, and keep your guard up against such tactics.

Ironically, real "deadbeats" probably wouldn't fall for these scammers, since they have no intention of repaying their creditors anyway. But upright citizens may doubt themselves, thinking they've forgotten to pay a bill. Many times, the sums involved tend to be fairly small, so some people may be tempted to just pay the "bill" and "get it over with."

Ways to Protect Yourself Against Debt Collection Scams

Review your credit report frequently to find inaccuracies.
Be aware of your current creditors and how much you owe.
Ask creditors for identification before you provide any information over the telephone.
Reporting Fake Debt Collectors

If you ever receive a call from anyone identifying himself as a debt collector, the law requires that the debt collector provide you with identification, and that the debt collector refrain from making misleading and threatening statements.

You can report any problems you have to your state Attorney General?s office www.naag.org and the Federal Trade Commission www.ftc.gov. Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General?s office can help you determine your rights under your state?s law.

These people have been calling and telling me I owe $390 from a loan in 2008 and now I owe $790 for not paying it.  They refused to send me any information and they continually harassed me after I asked them not to call me at work.  He then called again from this number saying he was a police officer and gave me a false badge number.  They have eastern accents.
