Just got a call from this number: 713-507-9971. Upon answering, a computer began explaining that I was receiving a phone call from some kind of "correctional facility", location unknown. It said the name of the person calling was something "Ed Harris". The computer pronounced the first name incorrectly, obviously, so the word was indiscernible. Like the person before me, I thought it was a family member as well. The computer told me that if I answered the call, it would cost nearly $6 and 89 cents for each additional minute. Because of the strange circumstances, I didn't answer and am glad I didn't because I made some quick calls and learned that it wasn't any of my family or close friends. All I know is that this is some type of scam and hope somebody will get to the bottom of this.

just got a call from 713-507-0977 and 713-507-9960 and 713-507-9969 and 713-507-9971
he keeps calling me because i accepted the call the first time thinking that maybe it was the jailhouse calling about a friend or family member... we should be able to find this pay phone and report it or something? my guess is its some convict inside the jailhouse using his right to a phone to make money...

Same story here. 5 calls within about 5 minutes, 5 different numbers. Hung up the first four times. The fifth time, I pushed 0 like it said at the end of the call to keep from getting future calls. It stopped. Surely there is someone, somewhere to report this scam. I was afraid my parents or other close relatives and friends might fall for it. Tell everyone you know not to fall for it!

The same thing happened to us and it was a man saying he was from a Harris County Hosiptal saying there was someone very ill and needed us to call a number. What they do is forward your calls to a cell phone mean while charging you for the calls. I got calls from several numbers 713-265-9215, 713-265-9217, and 713-265-9209. This was so annoying, and I was upset that my mom fell for this but the good thing is that I canceled called forwarding on our phone so this wont happen again. I suggest everyone do the same unless of course you need it.

Funny (not) but I know someone that went to Harris Co. Jail 2 weeks before, but when I asked who was the inmate he wouldnt say. In order for the inmate to be able to contact me I would need a passcode and then dial *71 or 72..I just hung up. The story is just like everyone elses in here with different fake cops..
713-507-0886 & 713-507-9979

Got a call from 713-981-0098 saying a relative of mine was just arrested and I needed to "save" hi car before it would be impounded. To call *72 then another number to collect the keys and save my relative the hassle. He could not give me a name for my relative though...I knew it was fishy...

Received two messages on home phone two. Both were the same. Automated female voice regarding *72, dial 0 if accept, dial 2 if do not accept. The phones numbers on caller ID screen were 713/507-9987, 713/718-1058, and 713/507-0886. I reported it to our phone company who said to just hang up.

If you desire, contact SBC at 1-800-984-8800 to have calls originating from the Harris County Jail blocked. It takes 24 hours to kick in but your number is blocked and inmates can not make calls to you any longer

I got the same Harris County Jail phone call from 713-507-9971 and I was ready to go off on whichever punk inmate from my past was trying to contact me. I was ready for war and my various weapons of mass destruction were on point for duty.
I was going to accept the call to put that punk in check until I realized it might be a wrong number. Now that I see it is a scam my arsenal is back to standby mode until needed.
I was seeing red for awhile when I thought some punk inmate was trying to contact me and all I have to say is; how is it possible for a scam like this operate without being shut down right from jump?

Recieved three calls listed as Pay Phone:
713-507-0885, 713-507-9987,713-507-9975 all message staed that I would be charged $3.75 for answering/accepting the call, I immediately hung up the line and after the third call I unplugged both my phone lines for about 3 hours.

I work for a county jail and there have been numerous reports of these calls. First, they reported a woman in jail was trying to reach family members ref a crisis with her children. Then, it was just an inmate calling. Now, it is the recorded message saying not to dail *72, unless you want the charges reversed. I have received two of these calls at my home. Hang up the phone! Do not dial anything! These are scam calls. There are multiple people involved--men and women. When you dial the *72 number, it puts a block on your phone. You cannot use it, because the scammers are dialing long distance from your phone--probably to scam more people. Please, just hang up the phone if you get one of these calls. Otherwise, you have to call your phone company to get the block reversed and try to have the charges dropped off your phone.

I got numerous collect calls from Harris County Jail today. Finally, fearing someone we know may actually be in trouble, I accepted the 5th call. It was a man saying someone had been stopped for a traffic violation, without an ID. They wanted to let him off with just a citation, but needed me to verify who he was. I asked for the name of the person they had in custody, and the man told me he couldn't tell me, and that I'd have to call Sargent Danny Davis in his patrol car, at a *72 number. I didn't call the number, but about 10 minutes later got a series of calls; obviously trying to see if I'd taken the bait.

I got four calls from this same scammer, one after another in a span of 5 minutes. The first number was 713-507-9937,and each number after that ended with 9920,9953,9942. All have the same recording from a correctional institute. Can't these calls be reported to the police? The thing about the numbers is when I go to add them to my call block list, the numbers are different in the system.

Oh my gosh...i just got the same call from a 713-507-0979 and accepted it b/c I thought someone I knew went to jail...a guy calling himself Officer Brad told me to dial a *72 number and his secretary will reverse the charges....I got skeptical and did not dial the #. Who can we report this to?

SAME thing happened to me. I received a call from 713-265-9026,9020,9035,9015,9005. All these numbers called me house continuosly. THen I finally answered, thinking that it could be someone we knew from the jailhouse. When we answered it was Officer Ramirez saying if we knew some guy then we said "no" when we said no, he told me to call a number and then dial *72. When I did call the number, it actually was just some lady who just got her phone activated and didn't know anything about it.

Beware. I received a call from PAY Phone 713-507-0884, 713-507-9988, & 713-507-9987. Recording saying from Harris County Jail. This is a scam !!! DO NOT accept these calls, and ESPECIALLY do not dial the 72# they ask you to call. It sounds very legit - the guy comes on and gives you his badge number etc and gives you a bogus name of a person who has listed you as a contact who is in jail. Obviously, you don't know the person, and he says that "happens all of the time". Then gives you a number (72# & number) to call. If you dial this 72 # , the charges apparently really add up.

collect call from inmate in Harris County. Caller identified himself as a police officer then gave name of inmate. When told we did not know anyone by that name asked us to dial * 72 - and another number.
