Skype is the one handing out these bogus phone numbers!!! Anyone that pays for their "membership" can get a phone number from them and pull off these scams without being traced in other word they are disposable phone numbers if it backfires on the scammer all they have to do is throw away the phone and pay another 35 bucks for the "membership" and their in the scamming business once again !!!!! That is why no one can catch the SOB's because companies such as Skype offer their so called services to these creeps without any legal reprimands!!!!

Dear Diego,

Put the blame where it really lay's, with the criminals and illegal telemarketers.
The DNC works just fine. It is for telemarketers only and honest business does indeed abide by it. It is the criminals (which includes illegal telemarketers), frauds and scammers that do not. However, the Fed. DNC does not cover some survey's, Political or Charities.  You would need to check your states DNC laws to see if these are under your states DNC laws.  The fact remains that they are not automatic call blockers though and can not protect you from the calls that are criminal, illegal or fraudulent.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone..  You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

Report your callers here:

Dear emily sasseen ...
800notes is not affiliated with your callers, we are not calling you either. 800notes is a forum for reporting who calls you and any information you may have about the call to share with other forum users. It is highly doubtful that your callers are reading here also. We can't stop anyone from calling you either.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

I love it when a live person calls and says wants to lower my interest rates on credit cards. I tell them they need some reliable information cause I don't have any CC's CLICK they are gone.

The Phone company can arrange something like you suggested. years ago I had a irritant caller and complained to the phone company. They set it up so when this person called and we didn't hang up, they could not hang up. Went to a different phone and called it in.They were caught and phone company prosecuted them. So call it never know.

This was a new one. "You are receiving this call because of an app you downloaded or a survey you answered." We're going to send you free stuff. Yeah, right! She just went on and on even when I was shouting over her. I love getting real people on the phone just to mess with them. Anyone who calls me unsolicited deserves to be messed with. The DNC list is a JOKE! Complaining to the FCC is just a waste of time and band width.

I disagree.  Anytime I get a call from an unknown number, they tend to call once a day for a few days, but then after not answering the phone, they stop.

If you don't answer after so many calls I think they remove your number or at least nobody will buy it from them because it is unreachable.

I could be wrong but it seems for me, not answering is the best line of defense.

They called telling me that I was going to get a $100 & a $50 gift card for completing a unknown (un-verifiable) survey or a review of a company.  They needed to verify my mailing address to send them and the free samples I would have to review...... disconnected.

I'm over all these calls.  Another robocaller.  Go to http://www.nomorobo.com/ to stop them.  It's free and it was on the news the other day.  It works just like it is suppose to.  The number gets diverated through your own phone company to another number.  The call only rings once on your line.  This way you know it was an autodialed number and don't have to worry.  When the call gets divererted they get a very unique message.  Try it, it really works.

We're getting a lot of calls like this from places all over the country. It seems as if when we get one, then another one follows shortly. I think they're mostly the same group.

We don't answer the calls. We let them go to the answering machine.

If you answer the phone and hear a recorded message instead of a live person, it's a robocall.

You've probably gotten robocalls about candidates running for office, or charities asking for donations. These robocalls are allowed. But if the recording is a sales message and you haven't given your written permission to get calls from the company on the other end, the call is illegal. In addition to the phone calls being illegal, their pitch most likely is a scam.

What's the Reason for the Spike in Robocalls?

Technology is the answer. Companies are using autodialers that can send out thousands of phone calls every minute for an incredibly low cost. The companies that use this technology don't bother to screen for numbers on the national Do Not Call Registry. If a company doesn't care about obeying the law, you can be sure they're trying to scam you.

What's the FTC Doing About Robocalls?

Duing the last few years, the FTC has stopped billions of robocalls that offer everything from fraudulent credit card services and so-called auto warranty protection to home security systems and grant procurement programs. Tracing these calls is a tough job:

Many different companies use the same or very similar recorded messages.

Robocallers fake the caller ID information that you see on your phone. That's called caller ID spoofing ? and new technology makes it very easy to do. In some cases, the fraudulent telemarketer may want you to think the call is from your bank, or another entity you've done business with. Sometimes, the telephone number may show up as "unknown" or "123456789." Other times, the number is a real one belonging to someone who has no idea his or her number is being misused.

Robocallers often place the calls through internet technology that hides their location.

What Should You Do If You Get a Robocall?

If you get a robocall:
?Hang up the phone. Don't press 1 to speak to a live operator and don't press any other number to get your number off the list. If you respond by pressing any number, it will probably just lead to more robocalls.
?Consider contacting your phone provider and asking them to block the number, and whether they charge for that service. Remember that telemarketers change Caller ID information easily and often, so it might not be worth paying a fee to block a number that will change.
?Report your experience to the FTC online at or by calling 1-888-382-1222.

I agree with Cate. Waste their time. Refusing to pick up the call does nothing because the auto-dialer just puts you back in line to call again--and the computer never tires of dialing.

Caller ID says T-Mobile CA.  I didn't answer but listened and there were all kinds of weird noises in the background.  I'm on the Do Not Call list and these calls should not be allowed.

This particular number began calling me on 12/17/13 @ 8pm.  It is the same robo dialer who represent themselves as Bank Card Srvcs and hang up seconds before my answering machine picks up.  They use fake numbers thinking they will trick you into answering the phone because they are smarter than the legitimate, honest  people they call.  Ignore and never give out any personal information to anyone who calls on the phone.

Have you ever answered their call when the phone rings? I get these sometimes with the same message about the Stimulus and a last chance to reduce your credit card interest rate. What has that got to do with the Stimulus?

Our state attorney general is trying hard to stop these calls, and has succeeded in stopping all legitimate companies from calling. (I even got asked to testify in court one time. I no longer get calls from companies selling time shares, siding, etc. ) The problem with these scammers is that they use spoofed phone numbers and change them so often that it is very difficult for any government agency to run them to ground. But that doesn't mean that we should stop reporting them. Just doesn't let them raise your blood pressure. Yelling at them and hanging up only makes the problem worse. Either don't answer or be very sweet but "dumb", giving them erroneous information and tying up their time for as long as possible. I don't have the time to do this, but my husband has had some success with this tactic. One caller used all kinds of vulgar and threatening language when he realized he was being played. My husband just chuckled to himself and calmly agreed with everything the vulgar man said, making him madder and madder until he hung up in frustration.
