I received a phone call from FRG. 661-454-5170.  They said that I owe money from an overdue account from 1990.  I told them to do whatever they have to, and hung up on them.

I also received a call from FRG & Associates regarding a civil matter and her name is Alissa Baker at 716-418-7044. I gave them some money off my debit card thinking it was payment toward a payday loan.  When I call the number it is not a working number and I also have not gotten any paperwork as a receipt towards my payment.   She has not even tried to call me back.

Same here with me. Isn't it against the law to claim they are attorneys seeking civil action if you don't pay?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Got a call from a representative from FRG and Associates stating they needed to speak to me concerning a civil matter. No contact through the mail has been made. After the message left on my voicemail I researched the company to find out it was a collection agency.I haven't made contact with this company and decided not to.

I get calls from different people saying they are from FRG.  They are filing paper in court against me and I need to call.  So far these are the numbers that they call all are FRG 716-242-8322,  716-242-8323,  877-906-8903 and 716-242-7538.  These people have called my brothers who live in a different state and I don't know how they get this
information.  They have also started calling my job and saying they are going to send a job verification.

They called our office looking for Human Resources about a former employee.  They called before, trying to get us to give out information on that person, but they should know that we won't.  The person who called today was Sheri from FRG & Associates.  When I googled their company name only this site & some others that are vague.  Nothing that seems like a true description of a company.  :/

A debt collection agency keeps calling me about a payday loan.  They have also called my employer.  They have threatened to charge me with check fraud.  They have not sued me.  Payday loans are illegal in New York State.  However, if you stop paying on them, can the loan sharks sue you for an illegal loan transaction?

I have gotten several messages over the last few months from this FRG & Assoc. regarding a short term loan that I received.  They keep threatening me with legal action and also with check fraud as I paid one payment and then had to close the account associated with the loan.  I have received no paperwork of any kind regarding this matter.  I have no summons & complaint, they are calling my work and leaving threatening messages.  The last message received said that I had until a certain time to call them back or they would start the earnings verification process and file with Niagara County (the county I live in).  I know that payday loans are illegal in the State of New York!

I received a voice mail message from FRG and Associates.  The person's name is Sheri Edwards.  She left a message with my sister and a friend of mine as well.  She states that she has a collections legal matter to discuss and needs to get a statement from me.  I don't think this is legitimate.  When I called this person back, her voice mail states she is with Frontline.  The number she gave me is (716) 418-7043.

719-242-8323....got a call from this number stating they are FRG and associates, seems they are a collection agency in New York, NY, they were searching to contact my brother in regards to a short term loan and the possibility of check fraud because he closed the bank account the short term loan was deposited in and has not paid back the loan.  An internet search for the company has, so far, revealed a Financial Recovery Group in Miami, FL and little else.
